I know it's somewhat ironic to say on this forum, but it's kind of annoying to tweet your iTunes position every ten minutes like SS is doing. I get that it's an exciting time for him, but he should have a bit more modesty. I remember James A did it too last year and it really annoyed me. I'm all for promoting yourself - that's what Twitter is good for, but it's just a bit too full on.

SAM SMITH ‏@samsmithworld

This is gonna be the most painful week ever. Can't keep my eyes off ITunes!!

Ha, I always think I'd be like this if I had a single out, refreshing iTunes like there's no tomorrow. I agree that it's annoying to see all his tweets and re-tweets about it though. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because it's his first proper solo release...

EDIT: Also, given the subject matter of the song, it's hilariously ironic that he feels the need to re-tweet everyone pleading with their followers to buy it :P.

I'd be shouting it from the roof tops myself.. I don't see the problem

MOMM - 1

Knew it.

Don't see it? It's official?

He could have been number 1 this week... But he will end up in the top 3 cause of the Brits... Happy will take it for sure.

I'm so pleased Sam Smith is #1 on iTunes and would love it to get there officially. I can see easily why people wouldn't take to it but it's my second favourite song of the year so far without a doubt. Hope he doesn't end up disappointing with his album like Emeli and Tom Odell after all the hype.

Oh.

Looks like I underestimated how well Sam Smith would do. If he's already #1 on iTunes with a decent lead I could see him going there officially. Let's remember will.i.am and Zedd never made #1 on iTunes and they were midweek #1s so Smith will probably be outselling CB by miles in the midweek stage, could be enough to secure the official #1

1. Sam smith 1.0000

2. Clean bandit 0.9224

:o

+ Another Version on 39 with 7%+... so he is surly number 1 but again, I think the Brits will ruin this number 1.

Yeah. It's going to be close between him and Pharrell by the end of the week I reckon.

How so? Pharrell has already sold shitloads of 'Happy' so whilst it will obviously get a boost it won't be enough to send it back to #1. I can't see Katy Perry or Beyoncé being proper challengers either if it's true that they're performing. Plus let's not forget that Sam Smith will get a mention in the show for winning the Critics Choice award which will probably help his sales.

He'll be presented with his critics choice award at the brits, with probably a little clip of his song, so Sam could get a little boost from the Brits, too.

I can't really remember the format of the Brits but don't they make a big deal of the Critic's Choice? I know he won't be performing but they'll probably play some of his song, interview him, give him the award etc. which may translate into a significant boost for 'Money On My Mind'?

Didn't stop Katy Perry climbing a fair bit with Roar after the gift card effect. Happy's still popular and getting it more exposure will only help its case, and I can definitely see it challenging for #1 if Pharrell performs it. Would MUCH rather have Sam Smith though, Happy needs to bugger off. :(

I'm happy for Sam Smith, I just wish the song at #1 was Nirvana or his acoustic version of Latch, not the screechy whiny Money On My Mind. Boo-urns.
Yeah, Happy would have sold close to a total of 900k by today, I can't see him managing to shift enough to get to number 1 next week. I can see Sam doing over 100. I think PWs' Brit boost will only last for about 24 hours at most.
