SAM SMITH ‏@samsmithworld

This is gonna be the most painful week ever. Can't keep my eyes off ITunes!!

He's completely correct - seeing this song at number one on iTunes is incredibly painful. It really would be the worst number one of 2014 so far :( I'm just hoping Pharrell gets a massive boost from the brits.

The falsetto is hardly that off putting is it? Glad that it's looking to be #1 as Clean Bandit has had its time (still really like it!) We've definitely got one of the best top 10s in a while (bar Feelin Myself) atm.

Have you already forgotten that 'Timber' was a #1 single? :teresa: :P

(ftr i don't hate Timber but MOMM is better)

So unless something blows up from Brits, Sam Smith looks like he has this week's No1 in the bag! Would've preferred Clean Bandit for a fifth week, but that would be quite an ask in the current climate.

Timber is amazing Dan!

I never fully connected too it until after a night out.

I kind of hated Timber after it came out but it's true, hearing it on a night out DOES make you give it more goodwill

I don't think the falsetto in 'Money On My Mind' is offputting at all? I'm clearly in a huge minority actually liking the song (anyone else besides Jáhq at all?) but YAY at it looking likely to hit #1.

Have heard a bit of that A Great Big World song and it sounded decent enough.

I really like everything about it apart from the chorus

Clearly not - otherwise it wouldn't be #01 on iTunes :o

I'm glad this is number one, if it couldn't be Clean Bandit then I'm glad its Sam Smith. Pharrell has had his time, I reckon he will end up at 2 with sales around 85-90k and Sam Smith number one with 95-105k

Completely indifferent to the Christina track, its inoffensively irritating...

Huge fan of both Clean Bandit and Sam Smith, but happy to see "Money on My Mind" looking to earn Sam a solo #1. Not his best release by far, but the album is definitely going to deliver!

Kworb just updated:

1 Sam Smith - Money On My Mind - 1.0000

2 Clean Bandit - Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne) - 0.8212

3 Pharrell Williams - Happy (from "Despicable Me 2") - 0.7184

4 A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera - Say Something - 0.5900

Looks like Sam has it almost in the bag now based on the 12% increase over last update.

I dont mind Sam Smith being #01 if it means Pharell will be kept at bay. I dont really have a strong opinion on either Say Something or Money On My Mind tbh ... they're both just ... nice?!
Seriously this iTunes chart looks disgraceful with the atrocities from Pharrell, Great Big World, Katy Perry, Zedd, Pitbull and Will.i.am
Sam Smith is on 46.66% and A Great Big World are on 42.35%. I sense a massive percentage increase for both of them (Sam Smith in particular) in the daytime.

I knew it!

btw what is a falsetto? is it when Sam Smith's voice goes high pitched during the chorus?

yes. it's the voice he uses to sing the words 'money on my mind' ^_^

Katy B is still at #7 combined. I'd be happy if she could get a 4-week run in the top 10.
