Posted February 17, 201411 yr The 'multiple formats' thread made me remember these two curious relics of the 2000s, both briefly attempting to combat downloads but now rendered completely obsolete. The DVD single was introduced in 1999, Bjork's 'All Is Full of Love' (#23 in the charts) the first to be released. Back then it was the only way to get a good high-quality version of the music video of the song, you'd have 'enhanced CDs' but they'd inevitably contain very low-quality Quicktime recordings. I think the biggest-selling was Eric Prydz's 'Call On Me' thanks to its risque video. They lasted a fair few years but went the way of Music Request Television (The Box, Smash Hits TV etc) once Youtube arrived. Would be very surprised if any are made today, I know the Peter Kay charity songs continued with them for a few years further. The USB single, looking back, was a ridiculous idea  Lasting a couple of years in the late 2000s, someone genuinely thought that, while CD single sales were falling, people would be happy to pay even more money for a USB stick containing some compressed mp3s. Just out of sheer curiosity I actually bought one of these, Mika's 'Relax (Take It Easy)' for a crazy £4.99, and found the whole thing a worthless waste of time. There's also things like 10" singles, minidiscs, memory cards (Robbie Williams once did this), mini-CDs, CDs cut into the shape of the Backstreet Boys etc. Anyone remember these odd formats and did you ever buy them?
February 17, 201411 yr I've never bought a single in my life (and only semi-bought some albums), but if I most like my music to come on a floppy disk.
February 17, 201411 yr Got a couple of solo Spice girls DVD singles, they are ok but I guess the rise of youtube and streaming killed them off.
February 17, 201411 yr I recently bought an USB EP but it was an indie release and it wasn't available in any other physical format. I was happy to support the artist and get to use the stick frequently.
February 17, 201411 yr I've got a Suede live album on a USB stick. I've also got a few 10" singles, picture discs, coloured vinyl etc. and the odd mini-CD (3") which were released before CD singles became popular.
February 17, 201411 yr I've got a few DVD singles actually, most recently earlier this year when The Vamps did it for Wild Heart  I know Britney did it for Toxic, Everytime and My Prerogative though, as I have both of them, as well as Girls Aloud with No Good Advice. They're the ones that spring to mind for me.
February 17, 201411 yr I liked DVD singles. I got Aurora's Dreaming, Coldplay's The Scientist, KT Tunstall's Other Side Of The World and Maria Willson's Mr Alibi
February 17, 201411 yr Some I had.. Hear'Say - Pure & Simple V - You Stood Up V - Hip to hip/Can You Feel It quite a few solo spice girls singles also
February 17, 201411 yr I bought Basement Jaxx Where's Your Head At on DVD single back in 2001, and Robbie Williams Rock DJ. I've still got them somewhere. :D
February 17, 201411 yr I've collected a few DVD singles more recently, but never really bought them new, except by mistake once or twice, when the labels decided to put them in the same size cases as the CD single and HMV/Virgin compounded that by mixing them together on the same shelf in their chart wall, but that was 10 years ago or more when I barely even knew what a DVD was. I do have a Paramore single on another unusual format that was also supposedly gonna take off and save the physical single. It's a CD on one side of the disc, but flip it over and the other side was a vinyl recording to be played on a record player!
February 17, 201411 yr I bought Bjork's 'All Is Full of Love' on DVD as I liked her & had just got a pc with a dvd drive. Bought Kylie's X album on USB & Radiohead's Parlophone albums on USB but never a single. I kinda remember the Klaxons or Hadouken, someone like that, releasing one of the 1st ones. And didn't someone release a T-Shirt with USB as a single? I got loads of coloured vinyl, shaped vinyl, a few shaped & 3" CDs. Maybe 1 minidisc single. I love random stuff like this :)
February 17, 201411 yr I bought Call On Me, and one or two other DVD singles. We never would have guessed
February 17, 201411 yr I have a few dvd singles from Kylie, cant get you out of my head, in your eyes and love at first sight.
February 18, 201411 yr I have a few dvd singles from Kylie, cant get you out of my head, in your eyes and love at first sight. Are you sure you have a DVD single of CGYOOMH? I thought there were only DVD singles of In Your Eyes (Australian only), Love At First Sight and Come Into My World!
