June 22, 201411 yr This could have a bad impact on Ministry Of Sound releases as they don't currently allow their music on Spotify.
June 22, 201411 yr I do hope it is OA/OS and not on air/available to stream. Because what would really be the point in the latter? I can already imagine chart runs like 78-76-67-01-01 I suppose we kind of already had chart runs like that in the years just before downloads, where songs would appear as imports a week or two before release (although I don't think these were combined with the chart run of the song post-release).
June 22, 201411 yr I'm just going by the main article that said only nine songs this year have had 1m streams in a single week (they must mean overall, they didn't stipulate that it was only one platform). yeah it looks as bre says that spotify is as dominant in the streaming market as iTunes is in the digital sales market~ i wonder if streaming would've changed any of the no1's so far in 2014 ??? perhaps route 94 would've held on for a 2nd week at tsunami's expense maybe mr probz would've held out against calvin for 3 consecutive weeks at no1 ghost would've beaten 5sos by a bigger margin this week
June 22, 201411 yr Are many non-album new singles available for streaming pre-release? I don't really use streaming sites at the moment so wouldn't know. I have Deezer with my phone contract but I rarely touch it. a few ella eyre, jess glynne, kove, nico & vinz, cazzette etc kiesza (hideaway), gorgon city & duck sauce were also on spotfiy before their release
June 22, 201411 yr If this rule was applied retrospectively Pompeii's 260k extra sales (from 26m streams) would make it a million seller. I wonder how many other songs would pass a million.
June 22, 201411 yr Seems the OCC has found the perfect way to show 21st century progression in combining streaming data to the chart while not upsetting the reactionary record company interests!
June 22, 201411 yr I'm not comfortable with streaming being added to sales totals. To say that a song is a million seller is to say that 1 million individuals have purchased a song. To add listening time into this it would be a different story. I'm assuming that the 1m+ people that bought ABBA's Dancing Queen for example have found far more replay value from it than the 1m that bought Bob The Builder's Can We Fix It, which has had similar sales. Apply that thought to this era and it just skews everything completely. If a song was streamed 100 million times, which looks quite feasible in the future, it could become a million seller without even having to sell one copy.

The widget seems to count plays as opposed to listeners (or capped plays) so I expect numbers going into the chart would be lower, but with other sites projecting the numbers up it could've been close. I'm inclined to think Tsunami would've still made it though. I didn't think Mr Probz/Summer would've been overturned when I looked it up before but the Spotify widget has them at 1.381m and 659k respectively, and the streaming chart had Summer down at #16 as opposed to #8. Unless the numbers were drastically lower that would make up the 7k.
June 22, 201411 yr The OCC have often - and justifiably - been criticised for their reluctance to answer questions. It's good to see they have had someone monitoring their Twitter account this evening to answer questions even if we might not like all the answers.
June 22, 201411 yr I don't think streams are being added to sales totals, only certifications? Seems a bit illogical of them if that's the case. What's the point of adding them to the sales chart but not the totals?
June 22, 201411 yr Seems a bit illogical of them if that's the case. What's the point of adding them to the sales chart but not the totals? They'll have both a sales total and a streams total, which makes sense to me so we can see clearly the difference between them. A million seller will still be just that - streams not included.
June 22, 201411 yr just when the UK are starting to become fast and interesting again, the streaming inclusion will make it as slow as the Billboard Charts.... such a shame...
June 22, 201411 yr hang on they'll have a combined total with a breakdown of the sales total and the streaming total, so streaming WILL count towards YTD's, totals, and million-sellers
June 22, 201411 yr just when the UK are starting to become fast and interesting again, the streaming inclusion will make it as slow as the Billboard Charts.... such a shame... It really won't, what with the ratio. Have you read the article?...
June 22, 201411 yr They'll have both a sales total and a streams total, which makes sense to me so we can see clearly the difference between them. A million seller will still be just that - streams not included. I'm quite happy we'll know just the sales too, but I'm just struggling to see the OCC's reason to combine them for the chart yet not the totals.
June 22, 201411 yr hang on they'll have a combined total with a breakdown of the sales total and the streaming total, so streaming WILL count towards YTD's, totals, and million-sellers "Yes, both streams and sales will be given out separately." So they won't be combined, and they definitely won't count towards million sellers.
June 22, 201411 yr I really dislike the idea of them being added to sales totals, even if it's only weekly sale totals. If they make sure this is not the case, and if there is the possibility it could ignite the OA/OS campaign again, I think this could be a good thing. We will just have to wait and see how it pans out.
June 22, 201411 yr "Yes, both streams and sales will be given out separately." So they won't be combined, and they definitely won't count towards million sellers. But they have said that they WILL be combined for certification purposes. That suggests that they will also be combined when determining million sellers.
