February 23, 201411 yr I think 'Happy' does indeed have a good shot at becoming the biggest seller of the decade for far. :)
February 23, 201411 yr The album has yet to boost it's sales, I reckon it'll be in the T10 for a few weeks at least post-album.
February 24, 201411 yr I don't think it will outsell 'Blurred Lines', could see it running out of steam around 100-200k short - it's a fantastic achievement for him to get a third million seller though (and finally one in his own right showing that he didn't just get lucky to have the first two). see what you did there Bre? very drole! not sure it'll outsell BL but I hope Adele overtakes it again. any chance of a from-release VC sales graph to compare?!
February 24, 201411 yr see what you did there Bre? very drole! I'm disappointed it took this long for someone to comment on that :heehee:
February 26, 201411 yr Happy is going to pass 1million sales and still be #1 in the charts. Blurred Lines best watch out, Oscars performance on Sunday aswell :)
February 27, 201411 yr Happy will probably outsell Blurred Lines... It'll do 70k for 2 weeks at least. And I'm thinking 25k (on average) for next ten weeks which will bring its total way over 1.3 million already before summer. Of course BL will be constant seller too.. February 27, 201411 yr Oh, I like Happy even more now if it has a chance of outsellng the shit-storm that is Blurred Lines.
February 27, 201411 yr I have to ask as this has been bugging me for months but I'm still confused as to how an earth this is his third no.1 and third million seller. He doesn't sing at all on Blurred Lines, he only produced and co-wrote it and appeared in the video and I can't see why that should count as a no.1 for him? Though its still incredible that he's had a hand in three massive million selling no.1 hits i just see in my eyes that he's had two no.1s not three :S (Apologies for going off topic) Edited February 27, 201411 yr by Supercell

Production is just as important as vocals these days - and I don't think the likes of David Guetta and Calvin Harris would like it if you say production credits on a #1 shouldn't count as a #1 for those artists :P He does have some ad libs in the song as well.

Exactly what I was going to reply  Yeah, Pharell is hot right now, and to think he featured on Britney record 13 years ago when it was so easy for Britney to get a hit and barely for Pharell...it's weird how things can turn around

March 5, 201411 yr Happy is going to pass 1million sales and still be #1 in the charts. Blurred Lines best watch out, Oscars performance on Sunday aswell :) Ok, slightly off topic and a little after the event, but where was the Oscars shown? I looked at the TV schedules, and I didn't find an "Oscars" programme.
March 6, 201411 yr Ok, slightly off topic and a little after the event, but where was the Oscars shown? I looked at the TV schedules, and I didn't find an "Oscars" programme. Did you look for "Academy Awards"? That's its proper name.
March 7, 201411 yr Due to R1's unwritten ageist/sexist policies against (non-urban) female pop stars over 30, you mean? What urban female pop stars over 30 are they playing then? I actually agree with you that there seems to be a tendency to write off female acts at a younger age than male ones, but that's nothing to do with urban music.

Blige (only because she's a feature on Disclosure's latest record). Ms. Dynamite must be over 30 by this point too.

I actually agree with you that there seems to be a tendency to write off female acts at a younger age than male ones, but that's nothing to do with urban music. I was going to cite Beyonce as an example, but I see that's already been done. As for differential 'writing off' of older male acts - who are they more likely to play - Jay-Z, or James Blunt...?

As for differential 'writing off' of older male acts - who are they more likely to play - Jay-Z, or James Blunt...? To be fair, they did play James Blunt a lot in 2005-7, and he was already over 30 then. Fair point about Beyonce though - is there a "God I feel really old now" smiley? But I didn't count Mary J Blige because she's only playlisted as a guest vocalist and I'm not sure they'd bother with her on a solo single nowadays. Perhaps the age is more like 35 than 30?
