June 6, 201411 yr 1991 saw a very short-lived UK indie-pop invasion of the top end of the US charts. Right Here Right Now reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and number 1 in the Billboard Alternative charts) while Jesus Jones contemporaries EMF went one better, hitting the top spot with this. waacof2saZw
June 6, 201411 yr Author I agree, and it made number one in my charts, the only charts that count. well, Lol Creme sang lead with Kevin Godley on 10CC's early flop (but fab) single Johnny Don't Do It, a rocknroll American teen pop affectionate pastiche. Here's the genuine British TV teen rocknroll answer, the brilliant Johnny Remember Me. Two Johns are better than one say I, third one, and here's the fourth.. John Leyton 7e4JXwd7XMo&feature=kp
June 6, 201411 yr Hmm, one of those death records that were so popular at the time. Let's go for another one which is also the first new number one in my lifetime. The Shadows were number one on the day I was born but they were soon replaced by Ricky valance with Tell Laura I Love Her suy-bbKzTjk
June 7, 201411 yr I will tell Laura you love her Suedey. The Laura I loved was by Scissor Sisters (like ridiculously so at the time, was so obsessed with their album before it blew up and was everywhere you turned...) but as Laura has arguably not aged that well, here's my favourite track from their debut album, it's the lovely Return To Oz and it's tale of disease and drugs taking over the gay scene. EDIT: Oh, they've already gone and I hadn't noticed... bear with and I'll change it...!!! Okay, how about we use Ricky as the link and move over to Ricky Ross and his band, Deacon Blue. This may be a bit of a cheesy move but I really did used to love this one when I was a kid: ZHTI31XuQxk Edited June 7, 201411 yr by مدهش*
June 8, 201411 yr (Thought I'd attempt one of these ) Real Gone Kid reached a peak of number 8 in the U.K. singles chart, which was also the peak of my favourite Mary J Blige song: znlFu_lemsU
June 9, 201411 yr Well, 'Family Affair' was also the title of a big hit for Sly & The Family Stone - but they've already gone - so...uh...here's Sly Fox instead... bQiGqGMT8i4
June 9, 201411 yr From Sly Fox, the obvious link has to be Fox so here they are with S-s-s-s-single Bed. wEHNLNmhT3M
June 9, 201411 yr Author I was also going to do Sly Stone's brilliant Family Affair, from one fab Family Affair to another B-) Well, Noosha Fox had a great solo hit Georgina Bailey, so here's another pop Bailey, Tom from the Thompson Twins You Take Me Up 5Dho47jZS9U
June 9, 201411 yr TWINS is the obvious place to go here... and the best band I can think of with twins in it is DOVES. However Doves have already been and gone so let's go instead to the band's earlier incarnation as Sub Sub and their biggest single (which it is ridiculously difficult to believe is by the same group!) pRguEi3wufQ Edited June 9, 201411 yr by مدهش*
June 9, 201411 yr As Ain't No Love features Melanie Williams, I'll go from one Williams to another... My favourite Robbie song  4D35vfQ7eZg Edited June 9, 201411 yr by Jade
June 10, 201411 yr Damn, I was all set to go from Sub Sub to Doves as they are the same band... Oh well...Duran Duran's debut single 'Planet Earth' was covered by The Wonder Stuff a couple of years ago as a rather failed comeback attempt. Here they are from way back in 1987 when they were much better! Oaa3pxWqDEQ
June 10, 201411 yr The Wonder Stuff had the opening track on the NME Ruby Trax album to mark 40 years of number ones. One of the most bizarre tracks on that album was Ned's Atomic Dustbin's brilliant version of I've Never Been To Me. So here it is. plkCjvDEQ1I
June 10, 201411 yr Killing two birds with one stone here, not only is this also a cover, but I also went for another group with Atomic in the title. So here's my favourite from them... u8CMsQ-p1ls
June 10, 201411 yr At a very high tide there is little to be seen of the beach so people might ask "Where's The Beach?". A band called Where's The Beach recorded this wonderful song Tripping The Luv Fantastic. rG58WfpfIJg
June 11, 201411 yr Author Haircut. Hair: The Musical. Aquarius and The Fifth Dimension....is one I nearly went for. The Fifth dimension regularly beautifully covered the songs of late goddess Laura Nyro, such as this one, Save The Country - lyrics still apply 45 years on - but here's the great live version from Laura herself... mwn97weAxa0
June 12, 201411 yr If you want to save the country...from ghosts...then you know who you gonna call... Fe93CLbHjxQ
June 12, 201411 yr Ella Henderson's current single cannot be considered Retro by any definition of the term so that is not allowed - much to the relief of some. However, Japan's far superior song Ghosts is eligible. 7zzLU1ato2w
