I would probably still love this even if it was just another generic Coldplay song but OMG. <333

The Bon Iver influence / ripoff is quite obvious but if it produces a song this good I don't even curr.

Coldplay are very hit and miss for me, this song is more towards the hit side though, really liking the experimental sound.
I've just listened to this, created my Youtube playlist of recent stuff and had to check who it was as I adored it on first listen, was shocked this is what it was! Anyone know when it's released?
Ooh this is interesting, liking the minimalism and vocal effects. They haven't done anything SOLID since 2009's "Life In Technicolor ii" IMO. Maybe this will finally get them a follow-up Top 5 hit on my chart!

This is the proper first single, album 'Ghost Stories' out on the 19th of May.

Really liking this as well but not as much as 'Midnight' just yet - it's slightly more typical of their sound.

I guess this means 'Midnight' isn't going to be getting a release (until the album's out anyway) :( Easily my favourite song of the year so far.

EDIT:

Album is already up for pre-order on iTunes (with 'Magic' available as an instant grat).

Tracklist:

1. Always In My Head

2. Magic

3. Ink

4. True Love

5. Midnight

6. Another's Arms

7. Oceans

8. A Sky Full of Stars

9. O

I like it, although I don't know how much it's going to grow on me. Not exactly "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall".

I love Magic. Just bought it off itunes and have listened to it a few times now.

I'm a little dissapointed the album will only have 9 tracks though. :( Then again I suppose I'd rather an album of 9 really good tracks rather than 15 weak ones.

I like it but I think I was just starting to appreciate the difference Midnight offered. Magic sounds like a standard Coldplay single, similar to 'Atlas' but not as good, they're definitely going the more subtle route rather than stadium anthems this time it looks like.

Nice to see the album's coming so quickly though, it feels like a true age since Mylo Xyloto.

Only 9 tracks? :( Oh well, I suppose I should be thankful of new material already - expected to wait at least another year for it.

I like Magic, although it's just 'like' atm, I sense it'll be a bit of grower - it's not as interesting as Midnight was, but still a far cry from most songs on Mylo Xyloto. I'm impressed with this new sound so far.

OH MY GOOOOOOD GAWWWWWWD!!!

IS THAT THE TITLE?

I ... LOVE IT!!!

WHERE IS THE NEW SONG?? :o

OH MY GOD I'VE FOUND IT AND LISTENING RIGHT NOW!!

Didn't realise it was Midnight PLUS Magic!

Come on, Magic!! Sounding like a blend of CLASSIC COLDPLAY and ... TRAVIS???

Oh, thanks Thunder  Already all here up in this place!

9 tracks, like a Spice Girls album. 7 more to hurrrrrrr.

Midnight's better like but still likin the new sound, even if Mylo Xylto's sound was bettar.

What if my fave is Coldplay?

Oh. Then they still couldn't.

Looove that title. My fave ever title from them, even more than X and Y or Rush of Cold Blood to the Head.

Just hoping the music matches it, would love an album of Midnights along with that title for an ethereal, indie pop, deep, mystical feel, like Siobhan Donarghy, Vanessa C, Nerina Pallot.

It could be amazing. Imagine that sort of sound from Coldplay, I mean past Midnight, a whole album of it! Could even commercialise the genre. The music in the genre is typically so deep too.

Edited by Michael!

Well, it's not if you listen to Saturdays, Pink, etc, but some music out there is really philosophical and existential and that's deep music.
So so disappointing. Coldplay are my favourite band ever as they always had something to distinguish themselves. Now they sound like knockoffs of artists that have released critically acclaimed albums this decade.

It's an alright song but doesn't stand up against their previous stuff.

It really is a shame, until now I considered them as one of only very few that keep the momentum of great era after great era..

However, it's a million times better than that 'midnight' song, so glad they aren't leading with that!

They should have stuck with the anthemic sound!

Edited by .MIKE.

They stuck with it long enough. Don't you think they got bored with it? I certainly did.
