This is what I do.

So you're risking potentially having other people's computer get infested with viruses instead of downloading the song yourself, checking if it's even the right version or quality and whatnot? So much laziness in ppl I swear~

It doesn't take THAT long to find an outside download link for hosts either. Not much on the time saving front there. You're supposed to provide a SAFE and LEGIT link, not some shady rip you haven't even downloaded yourself.

Come awn people!

Like, I have my own proven and SAFE ways of finding mp3s and I'd rather people didn't PM me links they haven't even checked. And the host is kind of OBLIGED to use the link provided because entrant's mp3 trumps any 320 you can find yourself really.
Of course I download the song myself first, but why would I re-upload them? Why do people care so much for tags anyway?

A file named 'mp3hotmp3donkeymonkeycock.com_artist_-_song_rip320ijustbathedmyvagina3910934_21032014' with tags containing some irrelevant mp3 site's information and unreadable names isn't a very nice thing to see inside your folder. Every time it happens you just want to smash your computer and burn it to the ground. Well, at least I do. :(

I get that, but wouldn't everyone tag their mp3's differently anyway?

I'll try to make sure I check the next time I send a mp3 tho, just to avoid annoying people :P

Erm how else would you tag an mp3 file other than place the name of the artist into the artist field and song title into the song title field (with the minor exception of all the feat.'s and radio edits and shit like that). And it's GOOD MANNERS to have a filename be [artist] - [song].mp3 or something~
I wouldn't even know how to do anything of this stuff, like tagging and all that, as dumb as that probably sounds eeeek. I don't really download mp3s, I just use Spotify and Youtube unless I've downloaded like... a whole album.
Tags are really important for at least all of the last.fm users!

All me.

I just retag everything so it fits with my last.fm ocds anyway (not to take any hard work away from the host xo)

Tbh, I don't think hosting BJSC is that time consuming unless you're making pretty graphics. It's just a bit intense to spend 3 hours hosting the final results without being able to do ANYTHING else.
mp3s sent YAY

What if the mp3 link you send isn't one that you have personally uploaded yourself? Because I normally find a download link and send that to the host.

zippyshare takes literally 30 seconds?

this is hardly the same as trying to DRAW THE FIBONACCI SEQUENCE?!

once more i feel like i am saying one thing in my posts and people are responding as if i said something totally different? (this last bit isn't aimed at you thermo, my main point is that a fraction of time taken by each poster, will save a LOT of time for the host and then maybe more would be willing to host as the time effort will be reduced)

It's like 2006 all over again. Seriously like Pav says it is not that difficult to re-upload an MP3 and to tag the damn thing correctly, some people are incredibly lazy/selfish and thoughtless. When sending songs to Unknown Pleasures I always change the format ('cause most likely I downloaded it in M4A format off of iTunes or something) to MP3, then re-tag it and add the artwork then upload it and it all that doesn't take much effort or more than around 5 minutes of my time.

I think when Tim hosts it (lets face it, that ain't gonna happen soon) we should all send him links to dodgy MP3 sites and give no effort whatsoever.

it's a good job i went with the second version of the three million versions of the song you sent isn't it :o

i agree and ANYONE ELSE guilty of it (having hosted this 3 times i know the struggle, came out the other side on prescription pills)

my MP3 is somewhere on here ::: http://www.lingscars.com

I hope there hasn't been a problem with my entries concerning tags but I agree with all that has been said. preach.
Another contest I used to participate in (along with Ghosty who is probably still there~) was run by an absolute MANIAC, everything-wise. Ultimately I was banned from participating because I provided a song with a wrong tag. ME. ME. I was like hey f*** you I did NOT do such a thing. And he banned me. Maybe we need someone like him to run this bitch~
