1990: The KLF - What Time Is Love

1991: Bizarre Inc - Such A Feeling

Both solid 90s dance classics, unfortunately they didn't sell very much.

I ALWAYS bring this up but "Such A Feeling" entered the chart at the exact same time as Brothers In Rhythm's "Such A Good Feeling" and they followed each other around the Top 40, the Bizarre Inc track going: 28-20-14-{13}-15-16-25-38-57 and BIR's going: 34-25-16-{14}-17-24-38-57. Bit of a chart geek fact, but 'there you go'.

"On a Ragga Tip" - SL2, this was played at Latitude last summer on the final night - still goes down a storm!

Looking forward to this countdown muchly. :D

There will be many occasions in this thread where essentially my interpretation of what is dance will differ from others- it's an occupational hazard to doing these threads. I suppose the music is dance but then he raps over it?
SL2 and Fatboy Slim are brilliant tunes!
A great way to start off the countdown with The Chemical Brothers. I also loved that Fatboy Slim track back in the day, and still do. You've Come Along Way Baby is such a good album. I don't mind that Heavy D & The Boys track, it's not something I would listen to out of choice, but not something I would turn off if it came on the radio or something. Looking good so far! :D

Minor error - Chemical Brothers had been as high as #13 prior to Setting Sun (with Loops Of Fury EP, which left the top 75 the following week).

Great thread so far, though!

Heavy D and the Boyz was definitely dance music in the same way that, say, C&C Music Factory was. I really liked it at the time, but it hasn't aged very well and you pretty much never ever hear it. Fatboy Slim and SL2 on the other hand? They keep coming back.

If "On A Ragga Tip" only just scrapes in then I guess there's absoutely no chance of "Raving I'm Raving" by Shut Up and Dance making it in. Wouldn't guarantee many KLF records either..."What Time is Love" and "Justified and Ancient" only I'd guess. The others didn't hang around that long or were big hits during slow sales periods.

I expected Corona's Rhythm of the Night on the list. So many great tunes on that list and so many of those songs i listen to this very day, i miss those days we really dont get music like it anymore

Trust me, it should still appear in the list. It would probably be "downgraded" in sales by the OCC since it was released in 1994.

"Give It Up" was massive to radio stations that year. I really don't remember "On A Ragga Tip" and "Now That We Found Love. I have never heard them on radio or music channels. "Setting Sun" and "Right Here, Right Now" were massive on Mtv playlists. "Give It Up" is my favourite of them and many sport programmes used to play it every sunday.

95. THE LOVE I LOST- West End Featuring Sybil (230,000)

YEAR: 1993

PEAK POSITION: 3

Transformed into a disco number for Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes to provide them with a 1974 #21 hit, it was plucked from Stock/ Waterman’s extensive disco collection and given a make over 90s style. It was her biggest hit in terms of peak and sales though 2 Unlimited and Whitney proved a hurdle too far for the track.

94. SEVEN DAYS AND ONE WEEK- BBE (232,000)

YEAR: 1996

PEAK POSITION: 3

French techno next with B.B.E who scored four top 20 hits in the mid 90s, very much a tale of diminishing returns with their debut release “Seven Days And One Week”. A pan European hit this was a strong seller on import before its full UK release and had already hit the top in Italy.

93. COCO JAMBO- Mr President (234,000)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5d/Coco_Jamboo.jpg

YEAR: 1997

PEAK POSITION: 8

Talking of songs big in Europe long before the UK cottoned on , “Coco Jambo” was first released back in April 1996 and proceeded to become a massive hit over that summer. Fast forward a whole year and the song finally got its UK release and a top 10 hit to boot before it went on to become a No 21 stateside.

"Seven Days & One Week" is still epic. Back when trance music smashed consistently.

"Coco Jambo" That song would probably still smash in this decade too.

Seven Days And One Week    Brilliant tune, I remember discovering it on a dance compilation and then being surprised to find out it was a big UK hit - it's so good! Here's hoping there's some more trance to come :D
I can imagine a 1990s Buzzjack being furious over Coco Jamboo being held back so long, perhaps many thinking it would have been a number 1 had it come out a year earlier! Still sold brilliantly for an #8 peak though, fantastic summery track!
