April 5, 201411 yr Teachers only get so many holidays because those are actually in place because of the children. Children get worn out working up to 8 weeks at a time. Why shouldn't they have a little extra time at home with their families whilst they're young? As has been stated, many teachers including myself spend time marking/planning during the holidays. Quite frankly, if you want all this time off you envy us for, you should perhaps become a teacher. You wouldn't last the training.
April 5, 201411 yr Author I have had enough of this. Once again you spout uninformed rubbish. Why do you keep stating the same points over and over again? Your utter ignorance of the subject is shown up again by your comments on primary schools. You obviously think we stroll in about five to nine, put our feet up on the table with a coffee and let the kids do what they want until we leave at 3.30. I have had a wage freeze for 5 years. My pay has completely lagged behind inflation for that long. Plus the cost of my pension has risen as well. Your comment about homework is offensive to say the least. Year 1 get one piece of homework a week that has to be marked. That's YEAR ONE! This goes up steadily until Year 6 and they get much more mainly because of the SATs. Primary Teachers have to teach every single subject on the curriculum. And mark every piece of work. I have to work (as I have told you before) every Sunday for about 4-5 hours at least to catch up on things that don't get during the week and on planning for the following week. This is time I would much rather be spending with my daughter but I love my job so I make the sacrifice. Holidays to me are a chance to spend more time with her. That is not to say that I don't spend time planning assessing and marking during the holidays. Also teachers are not actually paid for the holidays. We are paid only for the contracted hours we do and then this is split up into twelve equal payments. I would love for you to just teach for one day to see what it is really like. Oh never mind. Can't be bothered as it's not worth a ban. We live in a democracy fortunately and are all entitled to our own opinions. Edited April 5, 201411 yr by Common Sense

Your opinions are ill informed and you basically stated everyone's opinion comes from the press. People who believe all that are morons and that's when it's about almost any job, not just teaching.
April 5, 201411 yr What would you know about working anyway Chris? You haven't done a days work in your lazy life so you really are the LAST person on earth than can start moaning about teachers and their holidays given that you have 52 weeks holiday per annum.
April 5, 201411 yr Author You haven't done a days work in your lazy life That is incorrect as I worked in an office from age 16 to 18 and since then have been unable to work due to depression. I'm not a lazy skiver on JSA like you infer. :( Edited April 5, 201411 yr by Common Sense

Your opinions are not worth a bloody fig and to be honest hawking ill-informed tripe like the kind you spout should be banned. We do live in a democracy which UNFORTUNATELY means anybody with a basic mastery of the English language can spread pernicious nonsense like you do.
