McFly's 'Baby's Coming Back/Transylvania' fell 1-20 and so did one of the Elvis re-issues. There's no way that 5SOS will outdo that, I can see them staying top 10 for a second week like 'Can We Dance' did (except that missed #1)

I know in the albums chart, Christina aquilera went 1-29 but don't recall a drop like that on the singles. Quite a few of the limited edition Elvis singles had big drops as people have already said.

Other Elvis re-issues:

Jailhouse Rock went 1-10

It's Now Or Never went 1-14

Also:

Flying Pickets - Only You went 1-10

Harry Belafonte - Mary's Boy Child went 1-12

It was either "THE LOVE OF RICHARD NIXON" or "EMPTY SOULS" by Manic Street Preachers that was number one on the midweek charts. Had either of them got to number one (they both went in at 2) they would of had the biggest drops ever "Nixon" fell from 2-22 and "Empty" 2-26. Incredible to think a song that wasn't even limited dropped from 2-26!
Nixon was the midweek no.1. Empty Souls was up against an Elvis reissue and they were always the mid no.1s from the off until JLo released Get Right.

The biggest fall 'within' the Top 40 was Rage Against The Machine's "Killing In The Name" which plummeted 2-40 in January 2010, I doubt that will ever be beaten really.

Other recent collapses:

Helping Haiti "Everybody Hurts" 1-> 9 in 2010

Mint Royale "Singing In The Rain" 1-> 8 in 2008

Both of the above were after 2 weeks at #1.

Pixie Lott "Boys and Girls" 1-> 6 in 2009

Twilight "Cover Drive" 1-> 6 in 2012

Robbie Williams "Candy" 1-> 6 in 2012

Lily Allen "Somewhere Only We Know" 1-> 6 in 2013*

Martin Garrix "Animals" 1-> 6 in 2013

Storm Queen "Look Right Through" 1-> 6 in 2013

PJ & Duncan "Let's Get Ready To Rhumble" 1-> 6 in 2013

*Had also already fallen 1-4 a few weeks earlier.

since the british hit singles book was my source of musical information and exposure, i was VERY surprised to find out that lauren, who was obviously making her name as a presenter, had done this song! lovely it is indeed.

i miss that sort of lemon jelly / mint royale / zero 7 soft dance that made the early 00's

Don't Falter is all kinds of amazingness as is Singin in The Rain.

I would be very surprised if it stayed top 10, it is at no.19 on amazon, almost out the top 50 on play, and itunes at 8 and that is with no new releases, thinking about 12-15

JLS 'The Club Is Alive' and The X Factor Finalists 2010 'Heroes' also both dropped 1-7 in recent years (the latter after 2 weeks at #1).

The Nr. 1 effect and the new radio 1 playlist, where 5SOS are c-listetd, could help them get some sales outside their fanbase next week, and that might prevent them from a too big fall.

I don't understand the #1 effect.

If you don't like a song, why on earth would you suddenly decide to buy it *just* because it's #1? :wacko:

If you've not heard the song until it gets publicity of being no.1, you might actually like it you know....

Emma Bunton's "What Took You So Long" dropped to #8 after two weeks at #1.
