I wish the reprise version of FTFTIF was higher than the standard version. It's beautiful.

Not wishing to launch stan wars as I love Gaga (but not this song) but it's a bit of a cause for concern that G.U.Y. is down at #243 :o

5 years ago I genuinely thought she'd be the sort of once in a lifetime popstar that remains at the top of their game for 20 years but this era just hasn't done anything at all. I love ARTPOP and its first two singles so it's a shame to see her performing so badly with everything recently!

I think people have moved on to dance music in a big way and other aspects of dance genre, there are some unknown dance acts reaching #1 these days, that you wouldn't think they would have had a #1 for instance Storm Queen, Duke Dumont have scored 2 #1s in a year practically, dance music has really been ahead of other genres for the past 18 months or less. And other dance acts breaking through Mr. Probz, Sigma etc etc. It feels like fans are not following their favourite acts as much unless its a new artist is breaking out.

I think with Lady Gaga, she was a breath of fresh air when she first cracked the market with her first single and album, and now people are aware of her, hence why her singles and albums are not reaching strong sales, that's the way I see it. Some acts have been in the music industry for a long time and now they struggle unless your name is Daft Punk or Pharrell.

Sorry for going off topic, I just thought I throw that in, in reply to the above response. :P

She should have credited Zedd, tbh. :( (This is the song he worked on, right?)

True, she really seemed like this Madonna-esque figure when she started, I thought she'd be massive for years! Especially when artists like Katy Perry and Rihanna score hit after hit but I guess their music is just generally more accessible to the general public.

Daft Punk and Pharrell both had a period of about 5-7 years where they were more or less irrelevant so I guess that shows that there's hope yet for Gaga!

I think Gypsy would have done better for her as a single as radio would have been more likely to support it, but then I guess at this stage there's no hope of anything else from the album catching on.

It's a shame this era hasn't really played out for Gaga as, when you take away all the stuff that has most likely put some people off, the majority of the album is brilliant. G.U.Y is great and the video is fantastic. I had a glimmer of hope for it when it appeared in our top 100 for a few days, but it's a shame it has dropped so low now. Oh well. I'm still looking forward to the tour and to see what she comes up with next.

Idina's still powering on. She'll have two versions top 40 in the next update and she's so close to being top 10 combined. I hope she can keep up the momentum into next week and get at least one week in the top 10. What a chart run the song has had.

I just think that the interest in this particular era of GaGa's has waned enormously. I'll wait and see if it happens next era but I'm sure if she comes back stronger with something to really grab the publics perception of her again in a years time say then I'm certain she'll be back to the forefront again.

Kylie and Madonna have gone through this situation and have come back with major no.1's some years later.

I think it's just a phase that some artists go through in their careers before bouncing back with a much successful era again.

Gaga's lost herself in her own self indulgence and it's taken its toll on her music, 'Do What U Want' was a fabulous single and should have kept her on track but she even managed to bugger that up epically.

'G.U.Y' was never a good single choice, it'll do nothing anywhere.

^ Yeah I agree. I think Lady Gaga's decline since the beginning of 'Born This Way', particularly in the UK, can be attributed to the general public perceiving her to be believing her own hype and becoming far too self-indulgent with her public profile and artistic expression. She is (or was?) a mainstream popstar and people like their popstars to deliver them somewhat innovative but ultimately catchy, enjoyable hits. The Haus of Gaga stuff, Little Monster preaching etc. may appeal to her core fanbase but it comes off as pretentious and desperate to casual fans. The perception of her is that her 'art' is her entire life, which wrongly or rightly is off-putting as it is not relatable whatsoever. If she took herself far less seriously and had a more down-to-earth and passive (in a good way) air about her in interviews, I think it'd go a long way as far as her music sales, because 'Applause', 'Do What You Want' and 'G.U.Y' had/have the potential to be commercial hits if there wasn't so much about her brand that felt contrived and effectively exclusionary. I think she's very aware of this as it struck me in her interview on Graham Norton that she was trying really hard to endear herself to the public by forcefully laughing at minor jokes and trying to create an obvious bond with fellow guests etc. - she needs to just relax and let her guard down as she seems like a sweet girl under all the sh*te that comes with the Lady Gaga brand (IMO!).

Anyway, back on topic - 'Empire' has taken quite a fall over the last while and is now only at #42. At least it should still hopefully become a top 30 hit tomorrow.

Linked to the ideas already stated, I think she also looses herself in her ideas and has so many of them that she struggles to see them all through properly. The big example is her setting up this Artpop idea but then not really knowing what it truly means. As has been said, she needs to let go, relax and enjoy herself more.

I think the name is a bit of a tainted brand now though, a consquence for being so big during The Fame period. Because she was an image as well as a musician, maybe people feel like they'e grown out of her and now, she's part of their childhood. I don't know, it's strange to see it happen over such a short period of time.

David Guetta's new single is available to pre-order in case it hasn't been noticed, it will be released tomorrow.

I've now listened to 'Do You Want To Build A Snowman?' and it's actually a really lovely song - why could it not be this smashing/winning an Oscar instead of that borderline-unlistenable screechfest? Genuinely don't get it :( (At least it might become a top 40 hit at this rate).

All 4 of the charted (so far) Frozen songs have had pretty impressive chart runs though:

'Let It Go' (Idina):

67-67-57-44-36-31-22-20-20-23-18-31-22-31-30-27-...

'Let It Go' (Demi):

92-78-66-62-56-59-46-42-51-60-74-70-91-74-79-...

'Do You Want To Build A Snowman?'

78-64-55-56-47-45-45-52-63-58-61-62-59-...

'For The First Time In Forever':

81-86-73-75-66-71-77-94-86-96-97-x(1)-...

15, 13 and 11 weeks top 100 so far for the latter three without any of them reaching the top 40! (Though as above that may change this week for 'DYWTBAS?')
