Sunday Chart Predictions

Last year saw Aloe Blacc appear - albeit as an un-credited artist - on Avicii's multi-platinum #1 'Wake Me Up!' and now he's heading for his first number one in his own right with the Elton John-sampling 'The Man'. It's safe to say he won't be in any danger of being overtaken by last week's number one as 5 Seconds of Summer is looking to drop straight out the Top 10! Other key new entries to look out for include 'Anywhere for You' by John Martin - known for his collaborations with Swedish House Mafia, together and apart - 'Scream (Funk My Life Up)' by Paolo Nutini, 'Empire' by Shakira (thanks to her performance on The Voice semi-final) and 'There is No Other Time' by The Klaxons.

It's another good week in the albums as new albums from Kaiser Chiefs - whose lead singer Ricky Wilson is a coach on The Voice - and Christina Perri are both early contenders for the #1 spot. However a return to #1 for George Michael shouldn't be ruled out! Johnny Cash's posthumous album of once-lost 80s session tracks is looking to debut in the Top 10, as is heavy metal band Steel Panther and alternative rock group Band of Skulls. Shakria's album may also sneak into the Top 10 after missing out last week.

Midweek Singles Charts: Aloe Blacc is The Man at No 1

Aloe Blacc is set for his first UK No 1 single in his own right with The Man comfortably leading the midweeks.

Blacc, who topped the chart last year as an uncredited vocalist on Avicii’s Wake Me Up, has opened up a lead of around 30,000 sales with the Interscope/Polydor track having already sold 50,000 copies, according to the Official Charts Company.

The Man, which samples Elton John’s breakthrough hit Your Song co-written with Bernie Taupin, will become only Blacc’s second UK Top 10 hit under his own name after the No 2 peaking I Need A Dollar in 2010.

Also stepping out on his own is Swede John Martin who has had a series of UK Top 10 hits already as a collaborator or featured artist. These take in hits with Swedish House Mafia, including the chart-topping Don’t You Worry Child, Sebastian Ingrosso and Tommy Trash (Reload) and Tinie Tempah (Children Of The Sun). He should now add to that list the Island-issued individual effort Anywhere For You, which is new at 4 in the midweeks.

Meanwhile, the Republic/Island track I’m A Freak by Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull is looking to race back into the Top 10 after Iglesias performed it on BBC One’s The Voice last weekend. Having previously debuted and peaked at No 4, it now rises 11-8 with weekly sales up 55%.

RCA act Shakira is also benefitting from a performance on the same programme with Empire rising 61-20 in the midweeks and sales up 867%.

Australian band 5 Seconds Of Summer debuted at No 1 on the singles chart last Sunday with the Capitol-issued She Looks So Perfect, but it is suffering heavy losses week two with sales down 82% and a fall to No 10 in the midweeks.

Duke Dumont’s former No 1 I Got U, featuring Jax Jones and on his Blasé Boys Club label via Virgin EMI, holds at 2 in the midweeks as Columbia act John Legend moves back up 5-3 with All Of Me.

There is a two-place drop to 5 in the week so far for the Relentless/Epic single Changes by Faul & Wad Ad Vs Pnau as two singles featuring Jess Glynne slide. The Rinse/Virgin EMI single My Love by Route 94 is down 4-6 as the Glynne-assisted Rather Be by Atlantic act Clean Bandit drops 8-9. Completing the Top 10, Pharrell Williams’ RCA-handled Happy is down 6-7.

Paolo Nutini is heading for his first UK Top 20 single since 2009’s Pencil Full Of Lead with the Atlantic track Scream Funk My Life Up) new at 11 in the midweeks. It is taken from his third album Caustic Love, which comes out on April 14.

Issued on the Akashic label via Sony, The Klaxons’ There Is No Other Time is new at 33 in the midweeks as the Demon-issued Your Love by Frankie Knuckles makes an appearance at No 35 following the house music pioneer’s death aged 59 on Monday. Source: MW, by Paul Williams

Midweek Album Charts: Kaiser Chiefs find new voice with sales revival

Kaiser Chiefs are heading for a chart revival with their new album Education Education Education & War challenging for the No 1 position.

The band, whose frontman Ricky Wilson is enjoying a new profile as a coach on BBC One’s The Voice, presently have a lead of a few hundred sales at the top of the midweek artist albums chart with Sam Bailey placed second, according to Official Charts Company data.

The newly-issued album is the group’s fifth and follows 2011’s The Future Is Medieval, which debuted and peaked at No 10, their lowest chart placing yet. Their only No 1 album to date was Yours Truly Angry Mob, which came out in 2007.

Education Education Education & War has come out via Universal’s label services division Caroline International and, even if it does not end up at No 1 when the full-week chart is published on Sunday, will become Caroline’s highest charting album yet since launching last year.

There are three other brand new albums among the top six sellers in the week so far with arrivals from Johnny Cash, Christina Perri and Steel Panther.

Cash, who died in 2003, is set for a posthumous return with the Columbia-issued Out Among The Stars, which comprises previously-unissued recordings he made in 1981 and 1984 with Billy Sherrill producing. It is presently showing up as a new entry at No 3, setting up the possibility that Cash may score a top five album in the UK for the first time since The World Of Johnny Cash in 1970.

Atlantic act Christina Perri’s second album Head Or Heart is new at 5, four places higher than where her 2011 debut Lovestrong peaked. A place below, Los Angeles heavy metal band Steel Panther are poised to hit a new chart peak in the UK with their fourth album All You Can Eat, which is released on their Open E Music label via Kobalt. To date they have only once cracked the UK Top 40, claiming a No 37 peak with their last album Balls Out in 2011.

The X Factor 2013 winner Sam Bailey debuted at No 1 last Sunday with The Power Of Love, but it now drops to 2 with sales down 54%, while George Michael’s former EMI-issued chart-topper Symphonica slips 2-4 in the week so far but is likely to be boosted by BBC One screening a concert of his from Paris on Tuesday night.

The rest of the Top 10 is heading down with Pharrell Williams’ RCA-handled G I R L slipping 4-7, the Chess/Universal-issued Going Back Home by Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey dropping to No 8 after debuting at 3 last weekend, Fiction/Polydor’s Elbow easing 7-9 with The Take Off And Landing Of Everything and Columbia’s John Legend down 5-10 with Love In The Future.

Southampton alternative rock band Band Of Skulls’ third studio album Himalayan, released on their Electric Blues label, is new at 14 in the midweeks, while other brand new entries within the Top 40 in the week to date come from Century Media’s Lacuna Coil, the Provogue-signed Robert Cray Band and Runrig on the Ridge label. - Source: MW, by Paul Williams

COME ON KAISER CHIEFS!

Can't believe they're in contention for a No. 1 album, although their last album's sales were hampered by the whole 'make your own album'.

George Michael's documentary screened tomorrow may just scupper Kaiser Chief's chances of a Number One Album this week.
Kaiser Chiefs seem to be at least a £1 cheaper most places than other current albums so that may help sales.

Woosh! That's close for John Legend and Duke Dumont! Glad to see Aloe Blacc getting a good lead. I would love to see him pass the 100k mark, but can see him just falling short of it.

I Knew 5SOS would most likely be out of the top ten. I thought Aloe Blacc would be on more than that! He might struggle with that 100k, now!

Edited by joepassmore

1-11- Total non-number one!

If you take away the multi-buyers it would probably charted at 5. 5-11 is a perfectly respectable chart run. 1-11 just looks silly.

Impressed to see Kaiser Chiefs at #1, and on 9.4k - what'd the last album debut with? Can't see it holding #1, so better than Sam Bailey gets a second consecutive week; but great to see The Voice having an effect nonetheless.

5SOS will hold top 10 at this rate. Paolo's not gonna stay there considering he's WAY off on iTunes. IDK why people find it so funny?

YAY for Empire going top 20 :o :cheer:

I think 5SOS might just about get back in the top 10 by the end of the week, they seem to have stabilised somewhat on iTunes. Still looking at a 1-9 drop at best...

Great to see John Legend up to a new chart peak, hope it increases in sales once again. Love slow burners!!

Also hope the Klaxons remain in the top 40 & Haim climb this week!!

Do the Kaiser Chiefs have any promo this week? Isnt the Voice final on saturday?

On downloads, it wasn't #1 at all...

What was it?
