I can’t believe this album is already over 2 years old.

I wish Million Reasons was the lead single, followed by Diamond Heart and then Dancin In Circles.

I do like Perfect Illusion but I can see why the GP weren’t keen.

Certain songs on the album I could see on ASIB too, Million Reasons and Angel Down by Ally and Sinners Prayer (with Bradley).

perfect illusion as the first singles SUCHa misstep

I don't really understand how they ended up with it as the lead...

'Perfect Illusion' has emerged for me over time as being a fantastic song, but I can totally see why it wasn't a hit.

Mind you, what would you have gone for instead?

This!

I have always loved it to the max but it wasn't obviously going to set charts on fire.

But it was good that something else than MR was the first single. I don't think the era suffered at all in retrospect with Super Bowl and all.

Listened to this as a whole for the first time in a while today.

Really good listen and it’s aged well for me, you can see how connected she was to the project and can see it meant a load to her.

The title track inpaticular just feels so real in terms of the emotion and lyrics.

At the time I wasn't bothered with Perfect Illusion, but now I really like it!

A-Yo is a jam but when she was considering it as a single while Million Reasons was doing the business... no.

I'm on team A-YO as lead single, especially when she can sell it like that performance. It represents the album more than Perfect Illusion, and she could have gone full pink-hat with the video.

It couldn't have done much worse than Perfect Illusion? Million Reasons was the correct second single though — an album seller.

I can remember when it looked like 'A-YO' would be single #2 in place of 'Million Reasons' so I kinda held that against it for a while, but now I really enjoy it and I agree it could have made a fitting lead single. As you say, blacksquare, it represents the album better and really comes alive with its energetic performance.

I can see the logic in choosing 'Perfect Illusion' as it is quite different and daring, but it really didn't catch on. It got very 'meh' reactions from people who I knew were Gaga fans. I think it was too short and too repetitive; the song's practically starting to finish by the 1:30 mark and there's not a lot to take away from it in that short time.

Love this mash-up with 'Papa Don't Preach':

I've never really considered it as first single before but I agree with your arguments for it! PI as daring and bold as it is doesn't really represent the era at all.

I’m on team Diamond Heart as lead now I think.

Million Reasons renaming second single

And a third single Dancin In Circles.

Million Reasons as lead though as risky as it could’ve been (like her first ballad as a lead) I think it would’ve been a UK top 20. Maybe not sell much more than it did but definitely peaking higher.

I'd have been here for this!

I like Diamond Heart as album opener but I don't think it sounds like a lead single.

I wish they pushed John Wayne properly. It felt like there was a bit of hype within the fanbase when the video was released as it was like the old Gaga but they didn't do anything more.
