Who the hell is betting on Guardiola?

Klopp would be a great appointment, knows about utilising a great youth system. Simeone is relatively untested but you could see him being there for a while.

Simeone is nailed on to be the next Chelsea manager. Man Utd are in the unfortunate position that Barcelona are likely to be looking at a new manager in the summer (although I expect it will be de Boer). Feel sorry for Spurs, maybe another year for Timmy :D

Yeah, I'm finding all of these "Ferguson wasn't doing well at this stage" type arguments totally misplaced, the comparison isn't really there. As has already been said, the decline has been so sudden. To go from 1st in one season, to 7th in another with a side that isn't REALLY very different to the previous year, is a huge decline and therefore questions have to be placed upon the manager. And the signs of improvement certainly aren't there, there's no motivation in that side, they just looked like a complete lost cause on Sunday against Everton. It's not like he's been gradually steadying the ship, it's just getting worse as the season goes along.

I'm disappointed though, from the perspective of a Liverpool fan, it's been a fun watch. The fans calling for Ryan Giggs to be a permanent replacement makes me smile aswell, I'd be delighted if that happens because that is CERTAINLY not a good move in my idea. First managing job for a side who have massive expectations? Silly. It won't be him though, obviously.

Odds on next Man Utd manager: (Coral)

Louis van Gaal 10-11f

Ryan Giggs 10-1

Jurgen Klopp 12-1 (Although he won't be approached by Man Utd)

Pep Guardiola 14-1

Sir Alex Ferguson 14-1

Diego Simeone 16-1

Jose Mourinho 25-1

Carlo Ancelotti 25-1

Laurent Blanc 25-1

Carlos Querioz 25-1

The Holland coach Louis van Gaal the overwhelming favourite to take over. Although he wouldn't be allowed to start until after Holland are out of the World Cup.

Dutch newspaper reporting that the Glazers met LVG last week and he was keen on the job

The funniest part is Ferguson is STILL being consulted as to who they should appoint, wow, and to think what happened the last time they listened to him! The club is a PR shambles at the moment.
Ah, but Giggs might not be all that bad an appointment if he has the right backroom staff. Look at when Liverpool appointed Kenny Dalglish player-manager in 1985. First season = double winners...and back when winning the double was very, very rare.
Different era though. United need to spend a serious amount of money in the summer and I just don't think Giggs is the right man to attract players.

Update on Odds for next Man Utd Manager:

Louis van Gaal 4-6f

Carlo Ancelotti 5-1

Jose Mourinho 14-1

Jurgen Klopp 16-1

Diego Simeone 16-1

Ryan Giggs 20-1

Antonio Conte 20-1

Laurent Blanc 25-1

Carlos Querioz 25-1

Fabio Capello 25-1

Sir Alex Ferguson 25-1

There's even odds available for Bruce Forsyth, Lady GaGa and Howard Webb with betVictor  at the 500-1, 1000-1 region.

All the noise out of Old Trafford is obvious. They want an experienced, short-term manager. vaan Gaal, Ancelotti, or Heckyes? Although maybe the latter has retired, I'm sure that's why he quite Bayern. Then look for a young progressive manager if a couple of years to build a project. For me all the noise about wanting an experienced manager is because they want to be back in the Champions League asap, because the implications against the debt of the club with missing out for another year will be huge for the Glazers. van Gaal would be a very funny appointment. I think he's good, but he loves 4-3-3 - one of the worst formations that Man United can play fluently with all their players. They've far too many number 10 style players.

I think they might appoint him in a couple of years time, if only to hold on to their identity and everything that has made them so good over the past 20 years (which is accountable to Ferguson only). Right now they're in limbo.

They need a manager who can be involved in transfers asap. Unless a deal can be done with the Dutch FA van Gaal won't be able to do anything until July.

Think it's fairly certain it will be tptb doing all the transfers, hence the complete lack of direction. They're just going for the marquee names.

So no great shock, Van Gaal appointed Man Utd boss and Gigs retires to become his assistant

Can't help but feel all non-Man Utd fans are in for another fun year :D Like my Moyes sense, I get the feeling this could get funny very quickly. Going to be funny to see how Van Gaal fits Rooney in to his starting XI, seeing as he loves a fluent 4-3-3.

I can't believe Giggs had been going for so long!

He looked after himself well. Must of been all the extra curricular activities :D

I reckon he might have stayed on another year if Moyes wasn't the disaster that he was. Giggs probably realises though that Man Utd need to be massively re-building and him being a part of the squad is just not going to do any favours when he would probably play about 10-15 absolute maximum next season. It's ok for Man Utd, cos if things go pear shaped for van Gaal, all the fans will be crying for Giggs to take over.

As soon as he was appointed the first thing I thought about was the possibility of Rooney going. RVP, Mata and Kagawa with of course Januzaj being an option would work well in a Van Gaal system, getting a Strooman type player and almost an entire new defence apart from Rafael (or maybe Evra as I hope he stays) is probably likely going to be the jist of the alterations this summer.

Right now I think we'll be chasing 4th at best, I don't think some people realise exactly how bad our squad actually is!
