It's not a bad thing (to fall in love with me *.*) but it doesn't really amount to having a legacy. It's the same situation as Rihanna really...

Also, I don't think Toxic is iconic. Yes, it's a great song but that's all it is really.

What builds a legacy is controversy (Britney/ Madonna kiss, meat dress, etc), iconic performances (the only pop acts to really bring that since Madonna on a consistent scale are Britney, Gaga, Christina...) I can't recall a single ICONIC Katy Perry performance that everyone refers to outside of her fan base. And game changing music videos.

Everything Katy Perry does is nice, neutral, etc. that doesn't build a legacy... It's just an artist that churns out good pop songs.

I'm mobile, forgive my formatting.

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned Miley yet - she's probably the biggest example of a modern artist with a legacy!

I'm sorry Calum but you really cannot downplay Gaga's impact. I feel like you're judging with your own opinion here instead?

She's no Madonna but she's had a big impact on MANY people in a small period of time. Her fans are more devoted than someone like Katy, who is definitely more relevant right now.

I really don't think I am? I was asking what exactly it was that made people (or Bal) think that Lady Gaga has a 'legacy'?

I don't think fan devotion is something you can really judge either. There will be those who are deeply in love with Gaga and will do anything for her, but who's to say it's on any scale larger than those who are devoted to Katy or the likes?

I swear every forum has serious problems with understanding everyone has an opinion

Don't have time to repler now, but yeah Miley Cyrus looks to be building a legacy!

And I ADMITTED Britney WAS building a legacy pre-2004 but then majorly flopped and became Microsoft Britney.

Great, now I can move on with my life, etc.

I was just saying no one has reached the fever pitch like Britney did. Teen craze and transition to adult pop icon. Bitches peak for a year or two, Britney had it going for 7 years.

And she didn't become microsoftney after 2005. There was Blackoutney first. Bye.

Britney was essentially just a robot from 'My Prerogative' until last year...

I just don't understand this. At all.

The Do Somethin' video? The Chaotic mini series? Going out at 2am wearing a pink wig, buying red bull and pregnancy tests to f*** with the paparazzi? Coming under fire for driving with her kids in her lap, while trying to escape the paparazzi? The Original Doll album she planned behind her labels back and playing "Mona Lisa" on a whim on America's largest radio station?Attacking paparazzi with an umbrella after shaving her head? Crying while pregnant on primetime tv about her lack of privacy?

She might not have been the classiest or most sane bitch in the game between 2005-2007. But she was far from robotic until around right after her VMA performance of Gimme More.

Yes, look at her in this video you mentioned:

You can see it in her eyes that she doesn't really want to be there doing it, as if she's doing it out of obligation. No passion whatsoever.

(That song is still a jam though <3)

I do t see that at all.

And she co-directed that music video and helped pay for it out of pocket because she wanted it to be a single. Jive did not. I think the DS video shows more excitement in here than anything she has done after.

I can't another artist entering a Greatest Hits era, not after both Kelly Clarkson and the Sats just over a year apart

I think Gaga will need to turn to a GH before Katy, I think Katy could EASILY get another album or two before considering a GH but that's a good setlist for her when she does ;)
