She was sixteen points behind Slovenia, so it's not like it was close!

I didn't know the points when I posted that!

SEVERAL THOUGHTS:

One year you can send an everlasting piece of art like I Love Belarus, or Same Heart, or Hero, and totally and utterly flop. Another year you can send something rotten like Cheesecake and it'll perform beyond everyone's wildest imaginations.

I can't remember how well I Love Belarus did but I do remember that it was endearingly daft whereas Cheesecake was appalling. Sadly it wasn't quite bad enough for three songs - from Germany, France and the spectacularly dreadful Azerbaijani entry - to score even worse with me.

I just noticed that Finland have gotten their best result since their win, out of nowhere. Very pleased with that, all is forgiven, Softengine, you were a worthwhile rock entry after all.

I'm going to be noticing little quirks in the results for days oops.

This year has taught me to never base any result on past form.

5 years ago an Austria/Netherlands top two would have sounded like a completely ridiculous prospect!

And Azerbaijan and Greece are not invincible!

Well I couldn't be happier! Such a perfect 'screw you Russia' moment (and that looks like a pretty impressive points percentage - about 10 points more than Emmelie last year but with two less countries).

I may (exams depending) be able to do Vienna next year (it's a city I've wanted to visit for a while anyway and eurovision looks like the perfect reason to go).

SEVERAL THOUGHTS:

1. Probably the most powerful Eurovision moment for me I've ever had - Euphoria was utter joy but it was different. This was a fabulous track, fabulously performed by someone so humbled by it all, someone who clearly never imagined ever getting this much acceptance in her life. But enough about Valentina - ALL BLOODY HAIL CONCHITA. WHAT A WINNER. Legitimate tears when she was doing her speech.

2. WHAT A BLOODY TOP THREE *.*

3. Sucks to be Mol. I'd have never imagined 17th, but hey - before everyone LOSES THEIR SCHEIßE (save it for Vienna bitches - oh, and FABULOUS call by the way Tom Kay. Serve me that steaming plate of humble tits along with everyone else who laughed at you for being certain on that one back in OH MARCH) over our result as I'm sure has probably been the case for the last few pages now (I haven't caught up yet), let us all remember one essential thing.

As Eurovision fans (the casuals losing it tonight can bugger off - you know nothing of our pain and you probably wouldn't even turn up for this if we weren't entering, so either COMMIT or GET LOST) I trust we can all think of examples of songs we've loved, great songs, great performances, great talents. And I trust we can all think of examples of those where they've flopped - in the charts, in Eurovision, in Melodifestivalen. And sometimes that happens. And sometimes there's not much you can do about it. And it's pretty shattering - especially when it happens at a time when we could really have done with a good result, like this year - but hey, that's how it goes. One year you can send an everlasting piece of art like I Love Belarus, or Same Heart, or Hero, and totally and utterly flop. Another year you can send something rotten like Cheesecake and it'll perform beyond everyone's wildest imaginations. Some years you can get it perfect and get a middling result, like Anouk last year. The year after you can send something so subtle everyone thinks it'll go over Europe's head and get the best result you've had in nearly 40 years. And that's just how Eurovision goes sometimes.

But the key thing here is that we're on the right track. For years the main barrier to us doing well was the BBC having no clue at all how to do it. But we've finally got that change in mindset, and I hope it sticks - I doubt they spent much money this year asking BBC Introducing acts to contribute a track for consideration, so cost shouldn't be much of a reason to change now. All we need to do is just find that track that connects.

4. I know I've spent all this season catting away at how dreadful this year is. I still think that this year musically is the worst we've had in a while - maybe I'm leaning more towards 2007 now rather than 2002, although I'm still on a high so that might be biased. But as an overall experience for things outside of the songs this year has nailed it on all counts. Exciting voting, a genuinely meaningful winner, and so many quirks that I as a statistical Eurogeek can't wait to get stuck into over the next few weeks. Brava Copenhagen: you put on a delight of a show.

ohhh Im crying while reading your post

Goodbye for you too

See you next year love   to discuss more of crappy songs from this crappy contest :P

voters usually make the right choice at the end of the day, because either a) I have commercial low-brow taste in music along with the masses or b) the public recognise a good song when they hear it and get enthusiastic about it.

It's B.

The reason I NEVER listen to any eurovision songs before the semi-finals is because it skews and biases my opinions - witness my bias towards the UK each year, which I hear a lot in advance - and because the recorded product isn't the same as how it comes over on the night. When I rate the songs I like it to be a level playing field, because that's how people vote. The growers emerge after the event. It was the right voting result overall.

Vienna is a lovely city. Of course they may choose to hold it in Innsbruck (which is also lovely) or somewhere else.

I expect it'll be Vienna, but I'd love it to be Linz or Salzburg. Both beautiful cities that I've been to.

Crossing my fingers you DIE in the meantime you absolute creep. Cool, you think Eurovision's crap. But hey - that's what my tastes are. Ultimately, what's more sad - posting about something you love, or posting obsessively about something you loathe only to whinge when your country does badly and follow someone who calls out your illogical crap around the forum? I wouldn't actually mind and would let it fly normally - I find your behaviour kind of cute and pathetic in equal measure - but I know for a fact it's been putting off other posters.

I'd have given you a temporary suspension for the post you got reported for, but sadly someone deleted it before I could, so have it for this. Send Suzy my love xox

I watched the two semi-finals having heard none of the songs beforehand. Similarly, I watched the final having heard most of the songs only once. The exceptions were the British entry - which I had heard three or four times - and the Danish entry plus the rest of the big five which I hadn't heard at all. I'm sure that made my experience close to that of most viewers.

So pleased with Conchita, gave it 10 points tonight  Voted for Sanna and Conchita.

Also very VERY pleased with a 8th place for Norway! I had imagined Norway on the right side of the scoreboard tonight.

Guessing viewing figures must have been decent in the UK judging by iTunes - Can't believe The Netherlands are Top 10 followed by loads of ESC songs!
Has it been noted that facial hair played a large part in the winner's popularity this year while the loser sang a song about wanting to have a moustache :D? Quite apt (although I really thought the French song would do better).

So bizarre seeing those two countries finishing top 2, Austria last won in 66 and the Netherlands last won in 75, I never would have thought it, and The Netherlands have become stronger recently, as their previous entry came 9th last year.

It still hasn't settled in that conchita won. I hose a f***ing amazing year to go to Eurovision for the first time! *.*

We (the UK) need to think about what gimmick to use next year. The winning song, although pleasant enough, wouldn't have got anywhere near first place were it not for the whole man-in-drag-with-a-beard gimmick.

Oh, and Molly's singing last night, particularly the first verse, was almost more Bonnie Tyler than Bonnie herself a couple of years ago. The song was a cross between a typical Eurovision power ballad and a Bastille-style drum led rocker, yet satisfying neither of the two parts. Probably deserved higher than 17th, no strike that, definitely deserved higher than 17th, but was never going to be a contender for the top 5.

Done that with Scooch.

The UK just needs a big power ballad.
