Posted May 10, 201411 yr I think the Tories are much more popular where I live, last year for the local elections I remember seeing loads of posters and signs near where I live and no UKIP ones, probably because I live in a wealthy area and therefore Daddy's going to pay bigger than that council house. At my school in another area, when someone said he was voting UKIP everyone turned on him because he was supporting a racist party in their eyes. But that probably isn't what the majority think as some were going on about the right to vote whereas the majority feel disillusioned if I'm not mistaken (yeah not entirely mutual but still). May 10, 201411 yr Doesn't everyone at your school hate Michael Gove though? Probably not the most representative of Tory areas if that's the case.
May 10, 201411 yr I hear in some parts of Cornwall quite close to where I live at home that there are a multitude of UKIP signs, along with people who'll spray paint 'racists' on them. Haven't noticed any up at uni thankfully. They're popular in my European constituency overall but that was always inevitable considering it's rural and kinda poor/right-wing.

That was because his department was seemingly responsible for something that affected us. It's not going to affect the people who are old enough to vote and also it's a cluster of people from different areas.
May 10, 201411 yr There are loads of signs up around these parts for the Green Party. We had a UKIP leaflet through our door, it promptly entered the recycle bin shortly afterwards.

You can't put shite in the paper bin though....If Fife council found that excrement in our Paperbin's we'd be hung, drawn and quartered before being displayed outside Fife House as an example to others that don't use the 5-bin system correctly.
May 10, 201411 yr Fife council? :D You love them don't you? Nah, the recycling ppl around here let you put in most things, although UKIP leaflets does push the limit of what can be described as 'sanitary'. I spoke to Fife council many times when I used to do road forecasting for Scotland (happy days.. ), they were a pleasure to talk to actually, and always so relaxed about the snow. :o
May 10, 201411 yr Doesn't everyone at your school hate Michael Gove though? Probably not the most representative of Tory areas if that's the case. Everyone at every school in the country hates Michael Gove. ** I dunno, I wouldn't've thought UKIP were popular round where I live, but I see they actually did quite well in my constituency in 2010 (by their generally low standards at that election). I'll be interested to see how they do here in the Euros.
May 10, 201411 yr Everyone at every school in the country hates Michael Gove. ** Only the teachers do but they seem to hate every Education Secretary. Doubt that pupils really care.
May 10, 201411 yr In the last elections UKIP where 5th in my constituency. I don't think they'll be snatching Labour's wig anytime soon (we've had the same MP for 27 years).

Once you understand it of course! I don't think they'd want the paper bin contaminated with faeces, or UKIP leaflets as it's more commonly known, though as that'd probably be brown bin material. They are so relaxed because we rarely get any! A couple of years ago they didn't grit the roads for weeks because we ran out. Rumour is we actually sold our supplies to someone else and then mother nature bitchslapped us. So during the grit shortage of a couple of years ago, where everyone was concerned the country would run out and the government had to order in emergency supplies, Fife was a priority area and got a good chunk of the first ship because we'd hit nil points before anyone else![/claimtofame] The North East is not very UKIP. They don't tend to keep their deposit up here. I can't see the Labour heartlands of Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Central&West Fife voting for them either. Defo one thing we do right as a county! Don't get me wrong, everywhere outside of the NE would probably vote to leave the EU to get rid of immigrants but they'd never not vote Labour so it's no real concern.

The last evidence I saw showed Scotland still strongly in favour of EU membership. That's why I can see a second independence referendum if Scotland votes no in September, the Tories win the next election and a referendum on EU membership results in a vote to leave. If, as is perfectly possible, that referendum on EU membership sees Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland vote to stay in but England vote to leave in sufficient numbers to win the overall UK vote that could trigger a major constitutional crisis.

The notion that UKIP are a racist party is pretty much just mud slung around by the big three, as they are sh*t-scared of what will happen to them in the Euro-elections! Yes, UKIP have a few members who make controversial statements - but that's hardly exclusive to UKIP... <cough>Ken Livingstone, Boris Johnson<cough> :heehee: The point is that, once exposed, any extremists have been swiftly dealt with by the UKIP leadership.

As a nation as a whole, yes. But there are areas I believe that would probably vote to leave. Thankfully they are the minority. I really don't know what will happen if England votes to leave and everyone else votes to stay. Part of me rather cynically thinks the swines would declare that the UK has chosen to leave and out we'll come and into recession we'll go. I don't know what the pro/anti split is in NI and Wales but a rise in republicanism and nationalism respectively logically must follow. By ideologically acting in the UK's interest and withdrawing us from the worlds largest economy they could, as you say, trigger a full scale collapse of the UK.

They haven't been swiftly dealt with at all, they're still running as candidates! UKIP haven't really been able to make a breakthrough near me, either at home or uni. In the former it's reverted back to the old Tory-Labour suburban battle with the Lib Dems retaining pockets of support but collapsing everywhere else. At uni it's Labour or Lib Dem with a smattering of Greens.
May 11, 201411 yr I don't think racist is the word, I am really against all the pathetic mud-slinging by the press and establishment in a desperate act to save the Tories from losing votes, however I would say that the majority of UKIP voters are IMO old & selfish people who don't want to integrate into a global society. Their constant whinging about immigration is getting a bit tiring, when it is one of the things that has led to such a boost for the economy in the mid 2000s, therefore increasing their quality of life. As for the EU, gripes are unfounded as well, The Business Department in the UK estimates that 3.5 million jobs in Britain are linked, directly or indirectly, to the UK’s trade with other Member States brought about under the EU partnership. I think it is pretty sad that UKIP are about to win the European Elections, it is a great source of embarrassment for me to be part of a country that is happy to vote for a party that is so self-interested and selfish. Only the Liberal Democrats and SNP have stated explicitly they are in favour of staying IN the EU. I think a referendum on such an issue is utterly pointless given that much of the electorate have no idea what the EU actually brings as benefits and instead would vote mostly on the kind of reactionary bollocks that the Daily Mail and Daily Express serve up on a all too depressingly regular basis. As for David Cameron and Ed Miliband - they are both spineless wimps on the issue of the EU. Someone with a brain bloody come out and say they think it's a bad idea to leave!! Edited May 11, 201411 yr by Doctor Blind
May 11, 201411 yr In fairness to Miliband, as far as I know Labour's stance is effectively the same as the Greens' and they don't get any flak for it. Probably because it's a pragmatic position and the media doesn't like our major parties to be sensible.
May 11, 201411 yr What worries me, is that UKIP are incredibly popular on YouTube. I wonder if it means a lot.
