March 31, 201510 yr You can definitely see the eras when dance and pop intermingle as essentially the same thing, eg 1998-1999 and the last few years. Similarly it really shows you how the genre completely disappeared from major chart relevancy in the indie and R&B-heavy noughties, and I can't help thinking another rocky era has to be on its way soon. Pretty horrifying that it's been well over a decade since the last trance #1, shame the genre is so commercially unappealing and gets such little radio support. It's hugely depressing. Many of the trance hits going back to 1999 (of the Ferry/Tiesto type) still sound unlike anything in the charts today, let alone 15 years ago. Ferry did an EQ'd remaster of System F's 'Out of the Blue' a few years back where he mixed it to fit modern day audio standards and it sounds utterly astonishing, it would blow people's minds today.
March 31, 201510 yr BTW Dan, 3 Of A Kind 'Babycakes' doesn't have its sub-genre next to it, on the list.
March 31, 201510 yr 2007 Beyoncé & Shakira ~ Beautiful Liar (Freemasons Remix) 3 weeks --> surely counts as much as Cornershop and Mr. Probz since >95% of its sales came from the Freemasons version :D Was it really that much? I'm sure I recall both versions being practically neck and neck on iTunes for a while. I'm sure the original wasn't that unpopular.
March 31, 201510 yr Author I thought both versions were equally as popular, but that was only after reading Buzzjack posts about said remix, as I only ever heard the original at the time
June 23, 201510 yr Author another small update as Omi joins the list. In interesting news though it won't be long before we get to the 150th dance UK #1 :D Could be as little as 2 weeks if 'Not Letting Go' spends a week at the top to be replaced with 'Are You With Me'.
June 23, 201510 yr Would Not Letting Go be counted as dance? Otherwise perhaps Are You With Me followed by Waiting For Love
June 23, 201510 yr Author I'm still kind of struggling to see how 'King' is considered house.wikipedia says it's house: Genre: Synthpop, house
June 23, 201510 yr 'King' is synthpop to me which I would consider fine under an inclusive definition of dance, and not too far off like 'The Model' which is on here. I definitely wouldn't consider 'Not Letting Go' dance though?
June 23, 201510 yr Author i should've looked on wikipedia before assuming Not Letting Go could be classified as dance :kink: looks like it won't count then, although it does sound a bit dancey in the chorus.
December 10, 20195 yr Author I've given the OP a much needed update. Sadly, unless we get a last minute miracle, 2019 will become the first year since 1986 with absolutely NO dance/electronic songs of any description making #1. Though at least we got 11 weeks of a song with Dance in the title being #1, that has to count for something, right?
December 10, 20195 yr Wow that's a bit sad. There were a few number 2's though. Fingers crossed the 2020's brings a good resurgence in dance music.
December 10, 20195 yr Olive's #1 is more breakbeat (and trance to a lesser extent) than trip hop. Anyway, dance music is in a sorry state. I think its been a mediocre decade tbh, outside of a couple of thriving sub genres, the variety has decreased a lot since the late 90s / early 00s. Edited December 10, 20195 yr by Euphorique
January 15, 20214 yr well, 10s is just an example of 'quality over quantity' in bad meaning, in late 90s and early 00s dance was at it's peak for me while there was very few dance #1s. Later the more dance tracks went to #1 the less cool tunes they were. I hope it will change in this decade great thread, by the way. Edited January 15, 20214 yr by jszmiles

Communards Don't Leave Me This Way in 1986 was arguably dance/electronic (Hi-NRG) but anyway I didn't know 2019 was the first year in such a long time not to have a dance song at #1. January 16, 20214 yr Time for updating this no thread with a couple of dance #1’s from 2020! :magic: Indeed, Joel Corry and SAINt JHN added!
January 17, 20214 yr Pretty horrifying that it's been well over a decade since the last trance #1, shame the genre is so commercially unappealing and gets such little radio support. I think a trance song will become big on TikTok eventually though which will lead to it charting. I don't use it but I know TikTok is mostly about dancing videos and you can certainly do some epic dance routines to trance songs! Edited January 17, 20214 yr by TheSnake
January 17, 20214 yr I really don't see Trance ever coming back into the charts. It's never gone away, but in a similar manner to Dubstep it has had its time and really is a product of its time too (e.g. it can just sound very dated). BUT, Garage is on what its 3rd resurgence so who knows!
January 19, 20214 yr Fatboy Slim - Praise You is Big Beat rather than trip hop I would say and Route 94 feat. Jess Glynne - My Love is more deep house than just house I think. I wouldn't have considered Sam and the Womp - Bom Bom to be eurodance but maybe swing house instead?
