Getting so annoyed with all the one weekers lately, do you think there are upcoming releases capable of breaking the hoodoo?

The next possible one I think will be 'Gecko (Overdrive)' as there isn't a certain #1 the following week, with the biggest challenger being Sia.

I think Sia could challenge to #1 tbh. Not sure if it'll make it though. Here's my predictions for the #1s

I Wanna Feel

Sing

Ghost

Don't Stop

Gecko (Overdrive)

Chandelier(?)

If I Go

Problem

?!?

Maybe 'Problem' could do it too.

It's 2000 again! On one hand I hate 1 week number 1s, but when most of them have been amazing, it's good. As Natalie Imbruglia would say, i'm torn.
Depending on the song Cheryl could later climb up and block a few songs if she's releasing OA/OS. I'd like to see "Ghost" get two weeks, but it's unlikely. Same for "Problem".

I think Faded should have a solid chance for #1 the week after Problem, hopefully!
no way will Cheryl release OA/OS. would be a stupid decision if she does, there's no way she'll climb to #1

that's a good shout actually. we'll have to see if it gets R1 support before we can be sure but I hope it does well

'Am I Wrong' by Nico & Vinz should be a definite #1 too when it finally gets released here.

It's strongly rumoured she's performing on the BGT final and that'll be the first time we hear the single, then it'll be available at midnight. That is a stupid decision though I agree, she won't beat Ed Sheeran (or Ella Henderson the week after for that matter).

Kimberely Walsh has confirmed the performance: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s107/britai...~oFiEFcMka4moln

It's just whether it'll be released at midnight or not. I think they might after "Promise This" and "Call My Name" had poor longevity after being held back so long. Plus if it doesn't work out, they could just have a traditional release for the 2nd single/album in Autumn and brush over the previous single.

At least all or most of the one week number 1s so far have proven to be genuine hits (with the possible exception of Tsunami which exited rather quickly), constant flash in the pan number 1s that were commonplace in 2010/2011 are the worst kind of number 1s imo.

Here's just a little ~visualisation~ of the #1s of 2014 so far, as I found it mildly interesting:

For a year with so many #1s already it's not bad going that all of them have remained within the top 100 (and the top 75) for the entirety of their chart runs thus far. That run of consecutive weeks with a new entry at #1 though :drama: And another one starting to build up now!

(Also note that had 'Timber' scraped a few more sales this week, the top 40 this week would have contained all of 2014's #1s thus far bar 'Tsunami (Jump)').

It's also worth nothing that this is the fourteenth week in a row where we've had a number one that was not number one the previous week. And funny enough, this ~trend~ was started by Sam Smith's first single and now we're on his second and we've still not had a #1 stay for 2 weeks in a row.

She'll be competing with Ella in her first week (if available at midnight). The BGT final is on Saturday the 7th of June.

Also, I don't really get why it's a "stupid decision" just because she doesn't have the best possible chance at another #1? Although I guess that's just the time-honoured 'overall sales v #1' debate :P.

There's more to OA/OS than whether or not someone gets a #1. The UK has a very topsy-turvy relationship with this method of release and for someone in Cheryl's position it's risky because her fanbase isn't what it was (i.e she's not guaranteed to get a huge start out of the blocks) and the media is not as warm to her as they used to be (i.e if the song isn't an instant hit, there's every chance Capital and Radio 1 won't hammer it).

Personally I think Cheryl benefits too much from held back releases for OA/OS to be wise.

I agree with all of your points, however this isn't a standard OA/OS release. She's debuting her comeback single on a show watched by ~12 million people which definitely reduces the risk involved. Syco/her team will surely be ramping up the hype from next week, as they'll have X Factor in mind, and the performance will likely have big production values, choreography etc. making it as much of a spectacle as possible. (I know nobody knows anything about the song but this is Cheryl so her voice isn't going to be the selling-point :P). The quality of the song is of course an important factor (and I don't like talking about charting without taking into account the song itself) but if it happens to be in any way decent I think she has a great shot at top 5 based on BGT impact alone. Basically, Cheryl + OA/OS would generally be very risky but this strategy could work IMO.

Don't see any big releases on 16th June, so whoever is #1 the week before (Cheryl/Ella Henderson) should have a 2nd week, unless one knocks the other off of course!

5 Seconds of Summer don't count as a big release? I think they could possibly go to #1.

5SOS and Gorgon City are both big releases I think but 5SOS will probably get the #1.
