June 15, 201411 yr Noticed earlier that all of Lipstick's votes were 5+, and all but one was 6+. I swear this happened with Cash Cash aswell, I didn't realise my songs were so divisive. They're just pop songs?!

I find Cold a lot more subtle and more produced than Don't Go which was a very simple piano ballad, the sort of thing you either like or don't like, so I can see how that finished bang in the middle and I can see how Cold had more widespread appeal than that. I can definitely understand how you could love one without loving the other though. Don't Go was very instant for me as piano ballads are my thang, whereas Cold and Do You Even Know took some time, but now I absolutely ADORE them both. Her vocals are a lot more raw, fragile and potentially jarring to some people on Don't Go but they're more restrained and polished on Cold. She's learnt how to reign in her vocals over the past two years and her pronunciation is better.

They're just pop songs?! BJSC is so split down the middle these days though, whereas it used to be a predominantly pop contest. Lipstick would have easily won in 2010. Now when you send a big tacky pop song you have to be aware that a good 20-25 countries are just going to avoid it like the plague. That still leaves 25-30 pop or 'in the middle' countries to potentially reap votes from and Lipstick pretty much hoovered up all of those! There's a much bigger chance these days for a song to essentially 12 its way to victory too, or rather win by getting huge votes from a clutch of people, if it ticks all the boxes for everyone within a certain voting demographic. N DNTN was voted for by 22/54 countries. 32 countries didn't vote for the winner but the countries that did vote for it largely absolutely loved it.
