July 2, 201412 yr Surely the logical week to playlist Leah is next week anyway given its release is still 4 weeks away? :P Great to see alt-J and ZHU added (are we expecting the ZHU song to be a hit? I haven't really been following it, hopefully it can be mega huge and pave the way for 'Paradise Awaits' to be mega huge (if he ever bothers releasing it)). Heard that Vic Mensa track today for the first time as well, really like it on first listen.

It's got competition from other new releases; Naughty Boy, Vic Mensa, Pixie Lott (lol as if she'll go top 10), Leah McFall and OneRepublic though so it could just miss out too
July 2, 201412 yr Surely the BBC would want to playlist it so they FINALLY have a star of The Voice?! It would be weird for them not to.
July 2, 201412 yr Becky Hill says hello ~ (in all seriousness I agree, there's no way R1 won't playlist Leah due to the BBC/The Voice connection)
July 2, 201412 yr In the same way they haven't playlisted anyone else from that show (Becky excepted) and won't touch anything Eurovision related?
July 2, 201412 yr In the same way they haven't playlisted anyone else from that show (Becky excepted) and won't touch anything Eurovision related? all the show's other "stars" had more radio 2 appeal + not much potential but Leah could be play-listed by both R1 and R2 and she stands out as the best from the show so BBC may as well try and push her so they can at least say they had one major success story. As for Eurovision, again that's more radio 2 and it is thought of as uncool to the majority R1's audience hence why Euphoria wasn't play-listed despite it being perfect for Radio 1

Heard that Vic Mensa track today for the first time as well, really like it on first listen. I have always thought Faded sounds way more like a hit than Paradise Awaits which is probably a bit kooky to get big airplay (as much as I'd love that not to be the case). I'm expecting Faded to be a mid-sized hit based on the R1 support and then for him to fade into obscurity or come up with something new. Very pleased they've put it on although I never expected them not to the way it's been progressing.
July 2, 201412 yr Becky Hill says hello ~ (in all seriousness I agree, there's no way R1 won't playlist Leah due to the BBC/The Voice connection) I really don't think the Radio 1 playlisters care about whether she's from a BBC show or not. They have no obligation to support BBC talent show artists - and quite often don't! I'm not surprised if they're thinking of waiting to see whether it's going to be a hit before deciding to support it. It's an oddly vanilla song from someone who seemed to have a bit of an edge on The Voice. Edited July 2, 201412 yr by AcerBen

The only 'edge' she had was the kind that cuts people's ears and makes them bleed :heehee: I suppose you are right though, but I still expect they will playlist her next week.

No. Leah and OneRepublic are released the same week as Naughty Boy, Melissa Steel and ZHU who were all playlisted this week. Obviously it could just be a late playlist, but to follow the regular pattern it should've been this week.

Obviously it could just be a late playlist, but to follow the regular pattern it should've been this week. Yeah R1 usually playlist 3 or sometimes 4 weeks before release but 2 weeks is very rare. It happens though. They really should playlist Leah, I think. But you just don't ever know what goes on in that playlist meeting (...apart from that one time there was an article about it).

But you just don't ever know what goes on in that playlist meeting (...apart from that one time there was an article about it). So Melissa/ZHU/Naughty Boy are the 'sometimes 4' then, no? If Leah is playlisted next week that will be 3 weeks before release which is the standard. Unless I've failed at counting somehow
July 2, 201412 yr Author well this week's playlist applies from 7th-13th July, so if Leah were to be added on the next playlist, she'd have 2 weeks of Radio 1 airplay BEFORE the song's release (though technically 3 as it'll obviously still be on there during the song's release week) :magic:
July 2, 201412 yr Certainly if they playlist Leah next week she won't be reaching the A-list. I can't see a C-B-A progression for her. C-C-C or C-B-B at best. But being honest I don't expect them to playlist her.
July 3, 201412 yr So Melissa/ZHU/Naughty Boy are the 'sometimes 4' then, no? If Leah is playlisted next week that will be 3 weeks before release which is the standard. Unless I've failed at counting somehow  No they've been played 3 weeks before release. The playlist we get go into action from the week starting next Monday - which give them exactly 3 weeks until the release date of the 27th.
July 3, 201412 yr No they've been played 3 weeks before release. The playlist we get go into action from the week starting next Monday - which give them exactly 3 weeks until the release date of the 27th. To clear this up - they generally add songs 4 weeks ahead of release date, which is why they added Zhu and Naughty Boy this week (as they're out on the 28th July). So OneRepublic and Leah McFall should have been added this week, as they're out on the same day. However, sometimes they playlist a song a week later than usual (i.e. 3 weeks ahead of release), so there's no reason OneRepublic and Leah couldn't be added next week. Infact I'm certain OneRepublic will be. They will be classed as late additions though. Edited July 3, 201412 yr by Mango

Yeah, if we go by the time the playlist goes into action then it's 3 weeks but if we go by when a song is added to the playlist then it's 4 weeks. Either way, if Leah is added next week, it will be a week later than normal!
