July 9, 201411 yr Author Umi's Chart Highlights As "Fancy" notches up a 7th week at the top spot, it becomes the tied 5th longest reign for a female soloist's single of this decade. It is tied with Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" and behind "Royals", "TiK ToK" and "Call Me Maybe", each of which took 9 weeks, as well as "We Found Love" which had a 10 week run at the top for Rihanna. As of last week, "Fancy" had a 14% lead on "Rude" but this week that gap is only 6% as "Fancy" drops by 3% in points and "Rude" climbs by 4%.As Nico & Vinz ascend to #1 on Radio Songs, they become only the 8th duo to lead the chart. They follow artists such as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, OutKast and... LMFAO in doing that.Maroon 5 score their 9th top this week as "Maps" rises 13-9. It is also somewhat amazingly their 6th top 10 in a row, but we all know how they managed that..."Happy" leaves the top 10 this week but while its 22 week run has come to an end, it now stands as Pharrell's longest running top 10 hit, surpassing even "Blurred Lines" which last year managed 21 weeks.5SOS land at #16 this week and immediately have their highest ever peaking single but that's not all: with 4 top 40 hits in 2014 to their name they join only 3 other artists in being able to claim that many: Chris Brown (?), Luke Bryan (??) and somewhat inevitably Katy Perry are the other 3.Digital track sales this past week totaled 21.30 million downloads, down 1 percent compared with last week (21.48 million) and down 13 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (24.41 million).Year to date track sales are at 614.85 million, down 13 percent compared to the same total at this point last year (706.60 million).

July 9, 201411 yr 'Black Widow' in already is very impressive :P Disappointed in 'Break Free' though.
July 9, 201411 yr I was hoping that MAGIC! would finally go to #1. Next week I guess. It really is quite amazing how Fancy has done so much better in the US than the UK when her other songs flopped there.
July 9, 201411 yr It really is quite amazing how Fancy has done so much better in the US than the UK when her other songs flopped there. Well 'Fancy' is becoming by far her biggest hit (as a lead artist) in the UK as well so not really :P. She did a huge amount of US TV promo for it, including Billboard Awards, morning shows, late night chat shows etc., and I believe only a small amount in the UK (Summertime Ball, Wireless Festival, possibly more?) months after it was released which would help explain the relative difference. I still think it wouldn't be half the hit it turned into without the video. She completely capitalised on the buzz that it created and was absolutely everywhere in the US over the last few months. July 9, 201411 yr what I meant is in the US it has 7 weeks @ #1 and in the UK it peaked at #5 and didn't spend too long top 10 (but has gone on to be an enduring hit). One is clearly much better than the other :P

One is clearly much better than the other :P Well yeah but my point was that it makes sense based on the huge amount of promo she did for it in the US (and the buzz that was there from the video), i.e. it wasn't a random occurrence as she focused all her attention on that market. July 10, 201411 yr Boom Clap will make the Gold threshold next week. I saw Ariana's debut position coming. iTunes delayed her release (due to "technical issues") and her dropping off a few positions after two days. The song will climb though with the lyric video being out and the official video coming in a few weeks. MAGIC! will have a better chance at the top spot next week, since the gap was only 6% between Fancy and Rude this week.

Interesting week :P For one thing, it's nice to see another long female run like 'Fancy' has managed. Seven weeks is certainly a long time, and I'm a tad sad 'Rude' will bring the run to an end soon :( Pity. More's the pity Ariana didn't get that run but  Bizarre stuff for Maroon 5, Pharrell AND 5SOS this week. I never noticed Maroon 5 managing 6 top 10s from 'Moves Like Jagger' onwards but I look forward to the run being broken, and they have radio to thank for that. It's quite baffling to me that songs as ubiquitous on radio as 'Happy' and 'Blurred Lines' have had such short top 10 runs (half of their top 10 time being at #1 seemingly), you'd think they'd fall a lot slower. And 5SOS show the power of the instant grat/crazed fanbase as ever.
July 10, 201411 yr 5SOS' only H100 hit so far to not go top 40 is 'Don't Stop'. Whoops. That single seems to have been a bit of a misfire for them, they seem to be very quickly moving onto 'Amnesia'. Latch still at 11. It's cursed! I will be very :arrr: if it ends up peaking at #11 in both the UK and the US. Mind, I never really expected it to get this far in the States.
July 10, 201411 yr I will be very :arrr: if it ends up peaking at #11 in both the UK and the US. Mind, I never really expected it to get this far in the States. well it reached #9 on the Digital Songs chart (the one that matters <3) last week, so i'm counting that as a top 10 :cheer:
July 11, 201411 yr It would be amazing if Latch went top 10 and out-peaked it's UK peak! :o That's something I never would have imagined possible 18 months ago!
