I don't think you'll be alone in thinking that. I suspect they have sold even fewer copies of their album than Speech Debelle had when she won.

Well I certainly wasn't expecting that!

Guess I'll check the album out to see why it won... haven't heard anything from them so far.

Looks like they've given 'award it to the most obscure act on the list' another attempt. I'm not familiar with anything of theirs but CONGRATS. Their album's total sales could feasibly double by the end of next week now
i've actually heard quite a lot about young fathers???? like they seemed to be hyped up this year is it just me

No it's just you!

This just goes to prove what a valueless load of toss this award is.

This has been a bit of a barren period for British albums but for f***'s sake. What are these people on?

They should just give it to the token experimental jazz nomination next year and have done with it.

i do think fka twigs should've run away with it purely because she has been the british musical darling of the last two years and is pushing the envelope
Young Fathers won the Scottish album of the year already.

Hardly "unknown" - well, perhaps to those south of the border.

As it goes, I've barely heard a thing from FKA Twigs - just a lacklustre performance on Jools Holland - but it depends where you look for your music on whether you'll hear something or not. I hear Young Fathers all the time on the shows I listen to (Vic Galloway in particular) and I think the award is deserved even though it's not my kind of thing.

As for the "token experimental jazz nomination" - there were two jazz acts nominated this year and both are far more deserving of a nod than most on the list.

coz u scottish

anyway, eh @ those results :(

just listening to one of young fathers' songs and i'm not sure how to feel. it sounds like a rowdy pub with someone rapping and loud noises over it but i kind of like it. fka twigs/jungle/bombay bicycle club/royal blood still should've won...
Young Fathers win :o

Only just found out.

I know it's good to highlight under appreciated albums, but sometimes it feels like they give it to the most wtf or unknown nominee of the year... It definitely should have been FKA Twigs. Admittedly LP1 was the only album of the shortlist I've actually heard in full but from the songs I've heard of the others I still maintain it should have been her, she's by far the most sonically interesting and the album just doesn't falter at all.
Royal Blood wasn't exactly overlooked tbh. Out of all of them, FKA Twigs seemed the most interesting. I thought she'd have this in the bag
