YAY I'm glad we musically connected with that one  Haha fair enough, he was pretty much everywhere last year, although I cannot stop loving 'You Make Me' YES I agree, such a gorgeous track and definitely #1 material (especially if 'Walk This Way' could get there!!1). Thank you for commenting <3

Nice section :)

I also don't like anything Avicii has done since and including wake me up (however you make me is the best of them)

I like that Calvin track and sound of the underground is a classic. I also don't mind the Wheetus and Kelis songs

I am starting to like call the shots more with each listen. The problem I have with that track is my primary school made us sing like every week and they could not sing and it was so bad and out of tune and I can still hear it in my head when listening to CTS on my iPod. I think some parts of the song and production is amazing but I find the chorus ok and the start of the second verse awful

Haha thank you! To be honest 'Wake Me Up' got so tiring so quickly for me but 'You Make Me' is wonderful! Ooh glad to hear you like 'Acceptable In the 80s', my second favourite Calvin track ever! YES 'Sound of the Underground' was such a fantastic debut for GA! Oh okay fair enough, I get that too where bad memories influence my hatred for certain tracks haha! Luckily for me I only have good associations with 'Call the Shots' and find it beautifully sung and with a great chorus and middle 8 in particular. Thank you for commenting!

Hideously overdue, but here we go!

60. Whigfield - Saturday Night (1994)

WHAT a way to start off the top 60! I found this to be absolutely essential at many a disco when I was younger, when everyone would break out into the dance routine! It has become timeless, as it's still the infectious guilty pleasure of a MEGA hit that we all know and (hopefully) love! This instantly lifts the mood if I give it a spin on a Friday or Saturday from start to finish with the bouncy production and the sweet vocals. I've always found the very start and end of the song pretty bizarre, though. Still, how could you refuse something so joyful and lyrically euphoric, containing the lyrics "It's party time" and "I'll take you to the top". Nineties "cheese" that was done SO right, a case of simple but effective.

59. Haim - Falling (2013)

Ooh quite a recent one, and also absent from my EOY chart last year, but that'll be because it was released before I brought my personal chart back! Anyway, sometimes you have this one certain song from an act that you just LOVE and is just in a different league altogether - and that is most definitely the case here! No Haim song has won me over quite as much as 'Falling'! I ADORE the way that the song progresses - it has an intense but gripping build up and then just unleashes the absolute MOMENT of the chorus on you. I really enjoy the instrumentation and vocals as well, but yeah it's the structure that I adore ever so much, great track!

58. Klaxons - Golden Skans (2007)

Oh I do love a bit of Klaxons! To this day they're still impressing me - with the stellar lead single from their latest campaign 'There Is No Other Time' in particular! But yes I've always been a fan of their new rave/electronica/indie rock style - quite the combination! 'Golden Skans' shines the most for me though, and it seems it did for a lot of others too as it's their most commercially successful track! It is just INCREDIBLY infections and instant from the word go! I enjoy the lyrics throughout that work so well. Gorgeous vocals and incredibly catchy!

57. Blondie - Heart of Glass (1979)

Don't fret - Blondie HAVE made it! What an absolute highlight of the 70's. I believe I discovered this through one of the Just Dance Wii games and dancing along to it was one of the most euphoric feelings ever! Excellent track, another one where the structure is rather incredible - there is a lot going on! It's a feeling of sheer bliss as Debbie Harry delivers the lyrics in such a gorgeous fashion in the verses, and then the chorus comes in and injects such a wonderful feeling as well. Obviously the subject matter isn't the most positive of things - with the lows of love - but we've all been there so I guess that's why it feels so good to get it all out with her as she sings it. Brilliant production, too!

56. Utah Saints - Something Good '08 (2008)

I think I happened to be in a REALLY good mood when compiling this section, because it seems to be such feel-good stuff right now! But yes I think this is one of the most well-done re-hashes of a dance track ever! This version of the track still has the nineties feel of the original but with extra production that turns the feel-good factor up a notch. The vocals also seem to be in a higher pitch which usually would probably irritate me but bizarrely work SO well here! An example of how loopy dance can be done excellently. How can you not get swept away with the euphoric "I just know that something good is gonna happen" hook that stands alone - a message I should consider a lot more when feeling down! So good.

55. Sugababes - Freak Like Me (2002)

I'm listening to all of these songs at the same time as I type these and wow music really can elevate the mood! Another feel-good one here, the Sugababes' relaunch with Heidi replacing Siobhan was off with an absolute BANG! Whilst I did think 'Overload' was quite the tune in their debut, this was on another level! Firstly, what an absolutely astonishing choice of sample! It gives it a rough around the edges type feel, as well as the vocals, as the girls deliver them in a very fiery but edgy way. Promiscuous and simply such an earworm, I still can't get enough of this!

54. Calvin Harris - The Girls (2007)

Calvin Harris had me sold on the production ALONE during his first era, seriously what an absolute banger of an instrumental! Whilst on paper this could have come off rather bigheaded and irritating, he seems to deliver the lyrics with such a charm that I'm simply swept away for those few minutes in the sonically outstanding track. Oh how I wish he would go back to this kind of sound, not quite as commercial (although it did go top 3!! so technically it is but not a number 1 by Calvin standards!) but far more interesting for me, such a cool track. Also props to the "I like them carrying.... a little bitty weight girls", haha.

53. Coldplay - Viva La Vida (2008)

Well this is a tune and a half! I've been a huge Coldplay fan ever since I first heard 'Fix You' and 'Yellow' and this era did not disappoint whatsoever. Firstly we got the treat of the melancholic but gorgeous 'Violet Hill' followed 'extremely quietly' of course by this absolute TUNE. I mean seriously I did not see this coming at all! More of an upbeat effort for Coldplay, and it works so well. I remember adoring this as it came out around the time I finished primary school, with it's rather cool music video! Just yet another anthemic output from one of my favourite bands, lovely instrumentation with the strings in particular! I adore this celebratory track about revolutions, as Coldplay continued to grow themselves, still giving us the goods! This gave them their first EVER number one too - YAY!

52. The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever (1967)

Ooh a top track here from the INCREDIBLE 'Magical Mystery Tour' era. John takes lead here but his vocals sound far lower than usual which has an extremely powerful effect on the song, sounding rather intense and almost sinister, as this track is like a metaphor for a place he wanders mentally to relieve stress. Just incredibly touching really, I feel every word and the production is rather captivating too as it chugs along. My only negative is when it says "Cranberry sauce" right at the end as the enunciation is rather scary (NOTHING on 'Revolution 9' though) haha, I think only because of the 'Paul is dead' interpretations though. Stellar track, a great one in particular for escapism.

51. Madonna ft. Justin Timberlake & Timbaland - 4 Minutes (2008)

Wow, it was actually strange listening to the original right now as the Glee version seemed to have eclipsed it in my memory so it was weird to not hear Mercedes and Kurt! Still, the original is obviously why I love this track, I have SUCH fond memories associated, although some not so great ones like trying to re-create the music video at the time on Sims and hideously failing, haha! Anyway I just find this SO enjoyable, really grandeur production and Madonna and JT work together well, some great musical chemistry between the two of them! So catchy and a return to form for Madge, as I loved the follow up too. A far cry from her old stuff, but frankly I was loving this stuff that she was bringing out (of course some of her older classics too!). Really uplifting and infectious track!

Kate Bush's Cloudbusting made it, under a different guise *.* even if I'm not a huge fan of Something Good

Oh wait, Something Good '08 had a re-recorded vocal sample, damn :P

I love The Girls, I've listened to Calvin's old stuff quite a bit recently and it makes me pine for his old stuff! Since 18 Months and We Found Love, the only song I've properly liked of his is I Need Your Love, which is a shame given how great the first two eras were. And Freak Like Me and Viva La Vida are both on my own list, I love Heart Of Glass too although Maria is definitely their best for me

Oh my gosh, even though it's one of my favourite songs, I had no idea it was Kate Bush on the original! :o My mum recently bought one of her albums though so I suspect I'll become more familiar with her stuff after a few listens! I had no idea that it was a different vocalist, I presumed it was just a high pitch version haha!

Oh yes his first era was INCREDIBLE (apart from the rather odd 'Merrymaking at my Place' - could never get into that one.) such tunes! Ooh yes glad to see us both loving those tracks and tbh I like quite a lot of Blondie singles, brilliant act!

Great section

Falling is amazing song from the best album of last year, I heard Heart Of Glass on Heart today and it was good and I also like something good 2008. Freak Like Me is an amazing song, the early Calvin stuff is his best and 4 minutes is a great track.

Yay to see another section again

It's from the chorus of Cloudbusting, I always loved that lyric <3 it's on Hounds of Love and also her greatest hits The Whole Story. I think it's my favourite of hers aside from the obvious ones you will have heard :P

Aw thank you, lovely! I've missed doing this, just been drowned in A2 work :( Will try and do it more often though in spare time <3 But yessss glad to see you were lovingg some of my choices! I've heard all of the HAIM singles and I've at least liked all of them which shows how LAZY I am at checking out albums but that's another one to add to the list! OMG no way haha YES Heart they should play songs that good more often! ;) But yes agree that his early stuff is his best and all those mentioned are fab <3 thanks so much for commenting!

It's a great lyric  Oooh okay, I think The Whole Story is the one my mum bought! She played it in the car and it sounded great! But yes I knew of the classics like Wuthering Heights, Running Up That Hill and Babooshka, she has a fab voice though so I definitely need to hear her album more! <3

50. Take That - Patience (2006)

Well this is a far cry from some of the horrors (and outfits) of their early output. They struck gold with this track for their comeback, as it was strong enough to make up for all the time that had passed and already solidified the fact that they were here to stay as they rightfully bagged another number one (THIS is how you do it Spice Girls). Now man-band, things had gotten a little MOR but when the lyrics have been crafted this gloriously, that is no bad thing whatsoever. Yes the unexplainable feeling of not being able to let someone go even after everything was the way to go as it's of course incredibly relatable and sometimes gives you gems like this. This is packed with emotion and is so accessible, the elongated notes in the chorus are almost like cries and do wonders to elevate the track. Gorgeous moment when the middle 8 hits as well, as what was pleasant enough production becomes not just pleasant, but stellar as the strings really hit, wonderful progression.

49. Girls Aloud - Sexy!...No No No (2007)

I can understand the criticism of this song, as it's patchy and lyrically it IS rather lacklustre in places. However, the ENERGY brought to the table is just electrifying. The track opens with one of Cheryl's finest moments ever as she grips you with every word where the editing of vocals is put to good use as it becomes more memorable. Nadine also shines with her fiery delivery. Xenomania then once again bring it with slick and edgy production. In fact so edgy that this is more reminiscent to their very first two hits as it all feels just as rebellious. Rebellion is a forgone conclusion when the word 'no' is in the title three times, though. Just really sultry, sassy and EXCITING after the lukewarm cover of 'I Think We're Alone Now', different and risky for them but just my cup of tea.

48. Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body (2003)

A boyband graduate unlike Ronan Keating and soon-to-be Brian McFadden that was actually releasing music that was COOL. No lovey dovey cliches or bland-fests here, simply a track with a smooth, thumping beat throughout and as equally smooth vocals and dance moves. Let's not forget the beat-boxing segment as well! This still feels so relevant and fresh 11 years later - pretty simple themes here with the title pretty much summing up the subject matter, but as JT is trying to win over this girl (Poor Britney) he impresses me just as much as this is an instant crowd pleaser, noughties pop at it's finest, what a brilliant frontman.

47. Robyn - With Every Heartbeat (2007)

Quite the change of pace from the last track, now! I can't believe it's been seven years since this unexpectedly went to number one! As a ten year old it completely flew over my head at the time, as I simply dismissed it as simple and boring. Of course it's not that at all, from the gritty, haunting intro of the production as it continues to pulsate throughout, nowadays I am fully gripped and the simplicity and lack of lyrics are just fine, they completely do the talking. The tone of Robyn's voice is simply mesmerising throughout, and oh gosh as if I haven't praised the production enough, I get shivers when the strings come in, followed by the climax of the repetition of 'and it hurts with every heartbeat' and the production suddenly becoming more alive. Stunning piece of music, a great number one.

46. Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982)

An artist who's absolutely HAMMERED in my household as my brother is obsessed to say the least! However, his back catalogue does include some absolute diamonds, including this very fine moment in pop culture. The less said about the video the better, it still makes me absolutely terrified so they did well with it from that aspect, although it did bring the dance routine to the table. The track itself is of course a Halloween staple and I still never tire of hearing it every year as it's just SUCH an anthem. The spooky lyrics are delivered with such passion and excitement as there is this feeling of wanting to join in with the madness. There is also the quirky talking segment as well, which even further makes the five minute affair an absolute triumph. The baseline and synths are distinctive on their own but do not overpower, and the sound effects such as the creaking door were a great touch.

45. McFly - All About You (2005)

I was never huge on McFly, I've always been more of a Busted fan. However, this song was the anomaly for me. I've always had a place in my heart for this, it's just SO joyous and romantic but not in an overbearing way. The blissful opening and gorgeous subtlety in the vocals draws you in just right and the... okay corny BUT lovely lyrics with the plucking at the guitar strings make this a bit of a guilty pleasure. It's SO feel-good and is a love song that doesn't make me feel miserable as a singleton. A boyband not taking the melancholy or not overbearingly cheesy route (for me anyway, let them praise their ladies!) was refreshing.

44. Cher - Believe (1999)

Okay, well THAT vocoder was a bit out there, but Cher has always been a rather unique specimen (see: 140 characters of unorthodox on @cher) and this song is SUCH a fist pumping anthem. I love letting out my inner diva to this, the poignant hook of 'do you believe in life after love?' is one that is rather sad really, but the robo-voice and sensual production make it into a strangely hypnotising but enjoyable one. Ella Henderson's version is great if you want to connect with it emotionally, but when this has dance production it's more of a euphoric let-your-hair down powerful track.

43. Mark Ronson ft. Daniel Merriweather - Stop Me (2007)

Daniel Merriweather has an astonishing voice (that would be focused on more on solo single 'Red'), and he gets straight to the point with the first opening lines that continually refer to the title. Suddenly the first verse kicks in with some killer production courtesy of Mark Ronson which gives this love story a bit more of an edge. This features excerpts of both 'Stop Me if You Think That You've Heard This One Before' and 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' and they both blend in incredibly well. I guess a modernisation of soul and funk influences into a rather orchestral pop song. What a sublime track.

42. Coldplay - Yellow (2000)

Some mean guitar playing here that is rather hard to replicate on Guitar Hero, I've found out. Anyway, an absolutely stunning track that doesn't make me want to vomit at the mention of the moon and the stars etc., this genuinely brings out emotions in me. The chorus in particular gives me chills, I think due to the haunting delivery of the elongated notes. A love song from the band that's a bit more uptempo than the likes of 'Trouble' or 'Don't Panic' also on the same album 'Parachutes' so it's more exciting than the 'boring' tag they always get given. A gorgeous piece of alternative rock.

41. Mint Royale - Singin' In The Rain (2005)

I was dumfounded when I saw this receiving such pitiful marks in the Now 70 rate. I know taste is subjective and all that but if I remember correctly I was the only one loving it. YOUTUBE COMMENTERS gave me faith that I'm not alone though. Anyway, of course like a lot of people, this was brought to my attention through George Sampson's 2008 Britain's Got Talent dance. Let's be honest, his moves were OKAY, but what really made him stand out from the crowd was how well he worked this song. I just felt like I routed for him so much! Such a captivating take on a classic, the production is really euphoric and makes me think of happy times which is always great. So yeah a very weird number one at the time but one so good that it had to be performed twice on BGT in the same week.

I was obsessed over Patience when it was released- I love that song so much and it is so beautiful

Sexy no no no, with every heartbeat (albeit very overrated on here), thriller and believe are all amazing

I liked singin in the rain and I remember it and all about you is ok

Yellow is my favourite Coldplay song, it's a shame how bad they have become now. Yellow is so beautiful and amazing

Another great section Jade

Ooh yes 'Patience' is such a wonderful moment from Take That  I'm not huge on them at all but they have a few songs that are great - this one topping them all, though! Glad to hear you're a fan of those songs too, yep 'With Every Heartbeat' and Robyn in general are widely praised on here but I guess underrated in general. But YAY glad to see another Singin' In The Rain fan! Aw it's a shame you're not much of a Coldplay fan these days, I really enjoyed the first two singles from their new album in particular, although their classics do remain the best. Thank you!

STOP ME  Gorgeous. Wasn't expecting it at all but Ronson and Merriweather are both wonderful and deserving of all-time-fave status.

Another Singin' In The Rain fan here too, though I wasn't aware of the song at the time it stands out both as a fab re-working of the original and as a fab #1 single!!

Yesss it is quite the incredible team-up! I miss both of their presences in the chart.

Yay glad to see you like SITR also  Haha same I only discovered it because of BGT but yes you're totally right, I'm still so glad it got to #1! Showing BGT's popularity at the time too. :o Thanks for commenting <3

Believe is a stone cold classic! I remember loving it when I was like 3... How did I not turn out straight? Sexy... no! No! No! is such a tune as well, definitely one of GA's absolute best but I find it doesn't get enough credit :(
Hi jade, still terrific rundown of the 40 tracks since my last comment 13 of them were number ones of mine (and another 10 weren't far off) so averaging about a third now in common, yay! Beatles, Coldplay, Girls Aloud, Justin, madonna, Utah saints, Robyn, Jacko, Cher and more being the ones I love.....

Thank you to those who commented back in October (oops), finally gotten round to the next section!

40. Chris Malinchak - So Good to Me (2013)

Okay, this one may come as a bit of a shock if you have an exceptional memory and happen to remember where it was placed on my EOY chart for 2013! It came in at number NINETEEN on my end of year chart, yet has managed to be the highest song from 2013 for my all-time favourites! What can I say, it's just impacted me SO much since. 'So Good to Me' is my go-to song for relaxation. It promises gorgeous, chilled-out production and equally divine vocals. The accompanying video is also too endearing for words, who doesn't love a good giraffe! Lyrically this is so sweet, the entire effort radiates warmth so it's instantly accessible. If you need to chill-out and get in the zone, then I would easily chuck this at you, what an absolutely wonderful track.

39. Madonna - Hung Up (2005)

Although her career spans around four decades (you go girl!), this is the absolute pinnacle of her back catalogue for me. Firstly, the 'Gimme! Gimme Gimme!' sample was a very wise choice, and adds a euphoric spark to the lyrics. Although maybe not quite as deep as earlier efforts such as 'Like a Prayer', lyrically we've ALL been there, so it's the perfect letting-your-hair-down track. Simply a pop masterpiece, what a comeback!

38. Oasis - I'm Outta Time (2008)

This is one of Oasis' more subtle efforts, which actually sounds VERY Beatle-esque. It's quite fitting though, as it features an excerpt of a John Lennon speech. But yes, I find this SO underrated amongst their extensive back catalogue of singles! From their most recent spell in the charts, Oasis were still on form, with 'The Shock of the Lightning' and of course, this, grabbing my attention. But yes, everything is stripped bare - from the vocals to production values, and ultimately it is extremely captivating and haunting.

37. Blue - All Rise (2001)

A bit earlier on in the noughties now, and here lands Blue's debut single 'All Rise'. What is surprising is that this is actually really quite COOL for a boyband single. I love the opening intro featuring the harmonica, quite an earworm of a melody, and a quirky touch. But yes this is vocally on point and I've always had a soft spot for Blue. Let's just pretend Simon's rap near the end doesn't exist though ('you'll find that your stuff is gone, but in reality to whom does the stuff belong?' lol), I'll let that slide.

36. Sugababes - In the Middle (2004)

I don't think this is all that highly rated amongst their discography, but oh well, I love it! 'In the Middle' is SUCH a banger, the Sugababes were simply churning out infectious pop song after infectious pop song, and this one stood out a LOT for me. Firstly, the production is on FIRE, it pumps so much energy and fierceness into the song. Although fairly lyrically simplistic, it provokes the most positive emotion out of all their tracks, for me. This and 'Freak Like Me' are AMAZING to listen to when you're getting ready to go out.

35. Nelly Furtado - Maneater (2006)

This was the absolute peak of Nelly's career thus far. 'Maneater' does all that I want a pop song to do for me; take a subject, turn it into a killer catchy chorus and back it up with equally stellar production. This track ticks all those boxes, and brings back so many memories in the process. As soon as the drum beat comes in, Nelly states the words of warning with such conviction. What a triumph!

34. Spiller ft. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) (2000)

This is the track probably best known for beating Victoria Beckham (with a little help from the Truesteppers and Dane Bowers)'s debut solo single 'Out of Your Mind' to the top. Although a huge Spice Girls fan, I'm glad that this was the track that triumphed! Sonically, this is absolutely lush and Sophie's dainty vocals compliment it just perfectly. Expressing the highs of seemingly being in love, it's all so uplifting and chill-out. The dance fever of 2000 is very welcomed by myself!

33. Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict a Riot (2005)

Let's bring up the tempo now! I've always found this so much more enjoyable than the overrated 'Ruby'. Ricky's vocals absolutely soar here, and it is one of those tracks that is incredibly fun to sing. The instrumentation drums up so much energy, and the build up from the verses into the chorus is so gripping. The elongated notes are almost sensual. Fantastic single, although the chorus is made up of one sentence, the structure of the track just completely works.

32. OutKast - Hey Ya! (2004)

This was probably one of the most omnipresent tracks of the noughties, so it's a wonder I still spin it regularly even now. However, it has totally stood the test of time! This is packed with SO much energy, what with the electrifying instrumental with hand claps and all. I get completely swept up in this as it's so incredibly infectious. The chorus is one so simple but satisfying due to the change up of the instrumental each time. Wonderful!

31. Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There (1996)

I cannot even BEGIN to explain how obsessed with the Spice Girls I was around the time of starting secondary school. Although 'Wannabe' started it all, I MUCH prefer this more laid-back follow-up. They've stripped down the almost chaotic energy to something far more cool and collected, whilst still retaining their charm. I love the entire track, and the 'If you put two and two together, you will see what friendship is fo(u)r' line is still beyond iconic. Gorgeous harmonies on the chorus, and each girl shining on their solo parts. EPIC video also, probably my favourite SG video of all-time!
