Some amazing songs again

I predict a riot is so catchy and Probably my favourite Kaiser Chiefs song. Hung up is great because of the sample, if so good to me was the one with a giraffe in the video then it is a pretty good dance song and I also like hey ya

Maneater is just superb. Catchy and great and just amazing

Hung Up, Maneater and Say You'll Be There are everything  Especially the former, it's pretty much the song that "*.*" was made for.

Say You'll Be There is definitely my favourite Spice video too, and it's their best song behind Stop and Wannabe for me. It's funky, a complete contrast to the pure cheesy fun of Wannabe but I agree it just doesn't lose any of the magic that made Wannabe so special in the process.

Hey UV!

Thank you, lovely! I totally agree with you there, it is definitely their best for me too, although they are still releasing good tunes now (see: 'Coming Home'). Yes that sample is outstanding, and YES it was the one with the cute giraffe video  'Hey Ya' is a classic! Glad you're also a 'Maneater' fan, definitely one of the best no.1's of 2006.

Thank you for commenting. <3

Hey Liam <3

Glad to see you're with me on those tracks, haha 'Hung Up' seems to be a Buzzjack staple! But it deserves all the praise it gets.

Yes 'Say You'll be There' is such a brilliant video, although it's my second fave Spice song, my top one is in the top ten on here ;) They got it so spot on with all their singles (apart from 'Headlines' x)

Hi Jade!

So pleased to see 'Say You'll Be There' at #31, such a classic for me. I was also obsessed by the Spice Girls (still am tbh) and there's no doubt that most of their singles would feature in my Top 100 songs of all time list.

'Maneater' is incredible, definitely one of my favourite songs from 2006. She was unstoppable that year!

Actually I'm scrolling up page 8 and there's too many incredible songs to comment on individually :o I also love Hung Up, Believe, With Every Heartbeat, Rock Your Body, Sexy! No No No..., Patience, 4 Minutes, Freak Like Me, Saturday Night... and I like most of the ones I've missed out from this list too. Incredible taste.

Don't worry about it :)

I've been procrastinating my favourite songs from 2010-2013 :drama: and keep telling myself to start every week

Next section is finally here, as we get into the top 30.

30. The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows (1966)

This was probably the first Beatles album track that I ever heard. It is the closer on 'Revolver', my favourite album of theirs, and I pity those who never made it to the end of the album, as it is a case of saving the best 'til last for sure. The production is absolutely captivating and is so ahead of it's time, it's insane. The distortion of the sound (what with guitars being heard backwards) is hypnotising, and is quite a recurring pattern on their more psychedelic efforts. The track is all about the power of meditation I believe, hence the opener "Turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream." If you close your eyes whilst listening, it genuinely feels like you are being transported to a place of relaxation, a feeling that 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds' also provides me. John's vocals sound top-notch here, and those and the ahead of it's time production, featuring all kinds of wonderful weirdness like looped tapes, reverse cymbals and a sitar thrown in for good measure make this a sonic treat.

29. Michael Gray - The Weekend (2004)

Over ten years ago this track came into my life via a Now album, and at the time it was the first taste of Gray's short-lived chart success that was to span two years. 'The Weekend' wasn't a bold debut by any means, like fellow track 'Call on Me' (by Eric Prydz) was on the very same album, demanding the attention of us. No, this song was hidden away on the second disk waiting to be plucked out of this obscurity years later. Thankfully, I randomly revisited it and remembered just how underrated and fantastic it is. The subject matter is pretty easy to grasp, the title pretty much signifies it. It's simply a track to spin on a Friday night to really get you in the mood for the following two days, and it does it's job tremendously. It's quite understated as a whole, yet manages to enforce such a euphoric feeling from the power of uplifting vocals and some slick synths. A fantastically forgotten noughties dance track that I often go back to so that I can really get into a positive frame of mind. The follow-up 'Borderline' doesn't pack quite the same punch, but is pleasant enough all the same.

28. The Prodigy - Breathe (1996)

Unlike the last one, this is a dance track that is far more in your face. The run of 'Firestarter' followed by 'Breathe' marked a new signature sound consisting of a Keith Flint led vocal and rather edgy production. This was a winning formula for the public what with both tracks scoring the coveted number one position, but was one for me too, as this is one of my favourite nineties dance songs ever. Less of the controversy for this track, but just as much of the epic statement production. The baseline is enormous, with the energy seeping through and the snarling of the lyrics giving it that edge that was differentiating The Prodigy. Overall a unique piece of dance music where you can really feel the power of confrontation that was behind the song.

27. Basement Jaxx - Red Alert (1999)

Basement Jaxx are another nineties dance act that I fully appreciate, with this being their absolute best and probably most recognisable hit. This is a really funky effort from the group, what with the different elements to the production from the synths to even a brief string section commanding our attention. It is incredibly chaotic with all this going on from the production alone, but then there are elongated notes and even a howl chucked in there, which makes it all the more fun. What with all the madness and the imperative to lose our inhibitions and feel the music, it is a real feel-good party favourite.

26. Shapeshifters - Lola's Theme (2004)

This was the house duo's breakout hit in the U.K., with a couple of forgettable stabs at the top forty to follow. 'Lola's Theme' really draws you in with how the lyrics are at first sang so subtly, until the bridge and chorus hit and the passion flows through. The vocalist, Cookie, has such a warm tone and that makes this extremely pleasant to the ears. The subject matter is equally as pleasant too, with trying to change someone's outlook into more of a positive one. Shapeshifters on production duties smash it out the park, providing quite the memorable and feel-good backing track. All-in-all, a triumphant debut that still has a place in my heart and in my iTunes today.

25. Junior Senior - Move Your Feet (2003)

Well isn't this incredibly nostalgic! This is one of those songs also memorable for it's music video, what with the endearing pixelated squirrel. 'Move Your Feet' has become somewhat of an anthem, cementing itself as a party favourite and as a bold advertisement staple. Yet another track about having a whale of a time and getting lost in the music, this is a recurring pattern in my countdown as it becomes evident that music is one of my top sources of escapism. I absolute adore this, the lyric "Everybody, move your feet and feel united" (often confused as feeling naughty when younger, oops) is simply beautiful and is sang with such a raw vocal. The bridge does it's job incredibly well, setting us up for that almighty chorus that I look forward to every time.

24. Frank Ocean - Pyramids (2012)

This is considerably a lot newer than the songs around it, but this became epic in my estimations just weeks after that initial listen to it. I am completely aware of the subject matter of song, I mean the cover art features a Simpsons character looking pretty pleased with herself with what appears to be 'pyramids' under the duvet. Niceeee. Whilst the girl in question may be working at the Pyramids, it's not this subject matter that grips me at all, it's the complexity from each segment of this piece of art. I absolute adore the initial instrumental melody that oozes funk and is followed up by Frank Ocean's liquid gold vocals. The song goes in many twists and turns, with more banging beats, slowing of tempo and whatnot. His voice just touches me, and fascinated with the Egyptians as a youngster, the double entendre woven in with mentions of the Pyramids and Cleopatra must be a place of interest as well. Just so fresh, smooth, elongated but not in a bloated way and takes you on quite the journey.

23. Sonique - It Feels So Good (2000)

Originally released in 1998, it wasn't until the tidal wave of dance that inflicted the noughties provided an easy platform for this to become a hit. I've always been interested in trance as a sub-genre, what with it's usually soothing atmosphere. This track from Sonique really packs a punch as she explodes onto the scene with this incredibly endearing track, as she explains the highs of love with such gusto and likability, and almost angelic backing vocals are provided. The production is also woven extremely well and helps to build and elevate just right. An utter delight to listen to, what a song.

22. Oasis - Go Let It Out (2000)

Not exactly a renowned favourite or anything compared to the classics of the nineties, but 'Go Let It Out' has always resonated with me. Oasis were back at the beginning of the noughties, with the track being led by a familiar snarling Liam vocal (featuring Noely G for the duration of a line) and even bolder production than before, with Noel's one line proclaiming to "kick up the bass", where a heavy baseline emerges. A snarly Liam in the verses may be in check, but the subject matter is definitely something to shout about, with "ordinary people that are like you and me, we're the builders of a destiny" being quite a tender (not to name drop one of their rivals biggest hits...) and accessible message. It's these lyrics, the instrumentation and the pure passion and anthemic feel of the chorus providing the sing-a-long factor that really seals the deal for me.

21. Black Eyed Peas - Don't Phunk With My Heart (2005)

Blimey, this is ten years old?! This was fresh out of the BEP's second enormous era, retaining an urban flavour before the electro makeover would kick in within the next three years. This is the sound I crave from them, slick R&B with accompanying charming title. Fergie takes the reigns here, absolutely owning it with her presence and unique vox. The track itself is the epitome of an earworm, accompanied by thumping production and even a processed neigh from will.i.am, what more could one want? Iconic video, too.

Whoops, haven't heard of any of those

Will you be posting a text list of your top 200 at the end? I find it easier than to look through the many pages :drama:

Really? :o Four of those were number ones, haha. Oh well. :P Yes I will definitely do so then if you wish! ^_^

Lola's theme is really good but I do kind of dislike the song as I am sure it was the song that robbed my favourite song ever at the time (and then until mercy was released) of going to #1 :(
I loved Don't Phunk With My Heart at the time <3 I always kind of forget it now though...

Ah well you see I lack songs from the pre-2009 era (I have about only 30 or so tracks from 2008 or earlier :o) but of ccourse I do recognise some titles and artists but can't be sure how any of them go like

Hi Jade another 8 classic popchartfreak number ones in your 40 to 21 list, Beatles, Girls Aloud, Junior senior, Outkast, Madonna, Shapeshifters, Spiller, Sonique and many others came close. That's only 40% in common this time, what happened!? I like 'em all mind you....!
