Posted July 29, 201410 yr What songs that nearly won (so anywhere from around 2nd-5th) BJSC do you think were more deserving of the victory than the songs that actually won, or could've won if they'd been entered the contest before or after? I only bring this up because I've recently discovered Alida's album (if you can call 7 songs an album that is) and it reminded me how maximal 'Some Of Us' is and how it was cruelly denied victory at the last minute. Some others that come to mind would probably be... Koralreven - Sa Sa Samoa (Elite Gymnastics Remix) [N DNTN LVI] - probably would've won if I'd been in that contest Christopher Tin - Baba Yetu (feat. Soweto Gospel Choir) [skall LXII] - purely for the 'you can win BJSC with anything' element Frida Gold - Wovon sollen wir träumen [Espen XXXVI] - Dawned on me FAR too late how fabulous this track is Ask Embla - Ein [Allecian XXXIX] - not being bigheaded but it's held up a lot better than the three songs that beat it and is genuinely the most inspired thing I've ever sent. Additional mention to both of Persephonia's runner ups that probably would've won if they hadn't been in the same contests as the best BJSC songs of that year.
July 29, 201410 yr 'Dark Star' legitimately could have won is Xanaga had bothered to vote in the final (they gave it 12 in the semi and 0 to Belanger). :( Belanger was one of the best BJSC songs of that year though and obviously went on to win TBO so I can't really say I 'should' have won, just I was horrifically unlucky to send a song that would have won any other month in that particular month. Then I went and did that a second time a few months later. Good thing I'm due a consolation win a la N DNTN soon. It would have been a far worse winner than the actual one but Sophia Del Carmen would have won with ease if the pop countries comeback had happened a month earlier so I've gotta feel sorry for Rob on that one. And of course 'Wonky' would have RIGHTFULLY won if it weren't for a voting error from Cadelicia (still bitter). The XLIV top 3 was all great but Meiko and Purity Ring would both have been far better winners than Ronya (and Meiko wasn't far off). Other than that and the contests where I came 2nd/3rd (bitter) I think mostly the winners have been good / better than the songs just below them in the last few years.
July 29, 201410 yr And of course 'Wonky' would have RIGHTFULLY won if it weren't for a voting error from Cadelicia (still bitter). I GOT CONFUSED OK!!!! :( I deeply regret my actions that month and can only wish that Wonky should have won!
July 29, 201410 yr Animals :smoke: Y'all heaux jumped the bandwagon once it went to #1 in the UK On a more serious note, Wonky really should've won. Judging you Oliver Edited July 29, 201410 yr by *Tim
July 29, 201410 yr 2 and a half years on and I'm still upset about Laleh's 'Some Die Young' only coming in 3rd when by all rights it should have been a huge huge huge winner, as it's about the best out and out pop song to get entered to the contest in my time here. That's my main one. Baba Yetu is a good one, I mean, Artifice is fabulous, but Baba Yetu is seriously iconic. September would've also been a brilliant and daring winner had it won its contest - Harve's silver medals are all so good. :( Oh and so that I keep things balanced with Skall, me or Caerfyrddia should have won LIV. Either would have been a fabulous addition to the winners list, the former was much better and more unique than their winner a month later and if I could have had a winner like Amaranthe I'd have been forever satisfied with BJSC (I don't think anyone's going to be able to make a post in this thread without sounding a little bitter so let me have this one despite it only being a 6th placer - it was leading at the halfway point!).

July 29, 201410 yr i would've said 'wonky' SHOULD'VE won technically but i'm much happier that 'sissy that walk' won, as it means a lot more in terms of the act sent / the type of song it is / what it means to both me and pavel. purity ring 'obedear' is definitely much more relevant now than ronya and meiko (hew?) i would've said the original man without country 'puppets' should've won as i think it is much more remembered now than what did win (sorry dandy*)! and DEFINITELY 100% FSR rontvia with delta goodrem! if there was ever a time for anyone to win... 'shatter me' probably should've won as well. and 'baba yetu' / 'solo dancing' should be winners as well, but so should 'artifice', all for different reasons.
July 29, 201410 yr iamamiwhoami 'Play' Dragonette is fine and all, but Play would've been the better (and more ~iconique~) choice Chordashian 'Cold Nights' while it wasn't particularly close, this (and most of the other contenders) would've been a much better winner than Bring It Back (either Olafur or Braendt Barn should've got the Caerf victory!) Orbital 'Wonky' speaks for itself. a complete injustice of the highest order
July 29, 201410 yr Koralreven - Sa Sa Samoa (Elite Gymnastics Remix) [N DNTN LVI] - probably would've won if I'd been in that contest and deprive people of that amazing moment that will live on in BJSC history for all the times? cruel person!!!
July 29, 201410 yr Still think my DNQ Monarchy - Living Without You should have qualified for the final, never mind won it.
July 29, 201410 yr Author and deprive people of that amazing moment that will live on in BJSC history for all the times? cruel person!!! You would've won later in the year still, some of us haven't even managed a top 2 yet u greedy swine! (Tell the truth it may have actually been an N DNTN/Hendinia tie, not sure who would've won in that situation)
July 29, 201410 yr Music Everywhere by Anna Abreu REALLY should have won over Alphabeat's comeback single. But leaving aside my own entries, I agree with Frida Gold, what a stunning song. Not that Video Games wasn't great but I gave Frida my 12 and still prefer it to this day. Others that spring to mind are Jody's Wind It (not that The Girl and the Robot wasn't a heroically inspired choice of entry of course, would have only accrued about 70 veto points if the system was in place back then!), Lo-Fi Fnk's Marchin' In, iamamiwhoami's play, Meiko's Leave The Lights On, Korallreven's Sa Sa Samoa and Rae Morris' Cold.
July 29, 201410 yr Ask Embla - Ein [Allecian XXXIX] - not being bigheaded but it's held up a lot better than the three songs that beat it and is genuinely the most inspired thing I've ever sent. Like SHIT has it held up better than Nuclear Seasons!
July 29, 201410 yr i would've said the original man without country 'puppets' should've won as i think it is much more remembered now than what did win (sorry dandy*)! and DEFINITELY 100% FSR rontvia with delta goodrem! if there was ever a time for anyone to win... Ha! No problem, I have zero attachment to Cerahtonia. I was amazed when it won, if I recall correctly I think I entered it last minute when I couldn't think of anything better.
July 29, 201410 yr Man Without Country 'Puppets' Autre Ne Veut 'Counting' Korallreven 'Sa Sa Samoa' Gesaffelstein 'Hate or Glory' Rae Morris 'Cold' lol
July 29, 201410 yr i'll start off with myself - Laura Welsh's 'Ghosts' should have won over Dragonette and iamamiwhoami, because even at the time those entries seemed quite... shall we say 'obvious'. and 'Ghosts' is so haunting still, i hope she has plans to big it up again. definitely agree with Meiko. 'Puppets' or 'September' would have been iconic winners over the i-can't-even-remember-what-this-sounds-like 'Cerahtonia'. and it might be a bit soon to shoot this bird down but 'Trapped' >>>>>> 'RAMelia' and 'Nuclear Seasons' YES
July 29, 201410 yr TO THE END If I had to pick ONE song out of the many, many fabulous ones I have to sent to have won, it would absolutely be it. I know it 'only' came 5th, but it's the most buzz/excitement I've ever seen around one of my entries and it still seems to be remembered fondly/more so than what beat it (although that might just be me).
July 29, 201410 yr I'll only do songs that were close to winning. [i.e. came 2nd or 3rd] Actual winner - FARC: S O H N 'Artifice' Shouldabeen winner - Aeroche: Toyboy & Robin 'Jaded' [finished 3rd; 6 points behind FARC] Artifice was great but Jaded really deserved to win. :( Actual winner - Daehun: Indila 'Derniere Danse' Shouldabeen winner - Persephonia: Kids of the Apocalypse 'Empire' [finished 2nd; 17 points behind Daehun] This is more of an opinion one, obviously Indila is more popular. Actual winner - Eledan: Cut Copy 'Meet Me In A House Of Love' Shouldabeen winner - N DNTN: Gessaffelstein 'Hate Or Glory' [finished 2nd; 26 points behind Eledan] remind me again how did Eledan win with such a lead?!? Actual winner - Trifoski: Ghost Loft 'So High' Shouldabeen winner - N DNTN: Korallreven 'Sa Sa Samoa (Elite Gymnastics Remix)' [finished 2nd; 2 points behind Trifoski] this was a real WTF moment in BJSC history. Actual winner - Caerfyrddia: Marcel Woods feat. Vanbot 'Bring It Back' Shouldabeen winner - Aeroche: Chordashain 'Cold Nights' [finished 2nd; 20 points behind Caerfyrddia] I'd say Chordashian is more fondly remembered than Marcel Woods. If only people voted right at the time. Actual winner - Skall: Postiljonen 'Supreme' Shouldabeen winner - Hendinia: Taped Rai Max Elto 'Shadow of the Sun' [finished 2nd; 12 points behind Skall] Both are great but Max Elto really sounded like a winner and stood out more to me. I won't go back any further but iamamiwhoami should have won against Dragonette, that really goes without saying. Still a BJSC tragedy.
July 29, 201410 yr ALL of N DNTN's 2nd places should've won because they sound so unique and memorable to me (even in the context of 2013's alt-domination). I feel like my three 2nd places have lost out to kinda average tracks, and while amazing my own winner denied Hendinia's best ever entry from victory too! Edited July 29, 201410 yr by Harve
