I agree with you, Diana has a lot more power to her voice than I think Stephanie does as Stephanie needs to make sure her delicate vocals aren't drowned out by very uptempo backing tracks. I could see Stephanie struggling with it if the song isn't changed to suit her more but hopefully she'll surprise us!

lol

she'll struggle either way. you don't modify a song to bring it down to your awful standard, you modify your vocals and challenge yourself to take the song to a new level. of course she'll only be capable of the former though.

I'd rather someone made a song their own to suit themselves rather than changing their vocal style to attempt to keep the song the same as the original. I think Lauren did this perfectly last week as she wouldn't have been able to show off her vocals anywhere near as well if she hadn't changed up her song.

that is not what you originally said though? you more or less said that stephanie shouldn't sing songs with a loud backing track because her voice isn't capable of being any louder (which is probably true because it is really weak). i'm pretty sure lauren and cheryl didn't decide to do 'happy' the way they did because her voice was too shallow and out of depth with the original - just that it seemed appropriate to turn the song into a ballad.

I was just replying to the part you quoted. Regarding the loud backing tracks, during the chorus of 'Everything I Own' the backing vocals did seem nearly as loud as Stephanie so it's the sound mix that needs to be changed but if the sound people can't get that mix right then it would be better for her to change a song to promote her vocal tone more. Not everyone needs to have powerful and loud vocals (see Janet Devlin for example) if their strength is the tone of their voice rather than power. This is what makes Stephanie different from the likes of Lola, or Ella Henderson or Leona.

I agree, Lauren and Cheryl wanted to showcase Lauren's vocals in the best way possible and as proved from her previous performances, her voice shines best when songs are slowed down. Surely if Stephanie changed her songs to showcase her vocals in the best way possible then there's no difference?

Thoughts:

Andrea Faustini - One Moment In Time (Whitney Houston)

really safe choice but I'm sure he'll do it well

Jake Quickenden - Total Eclipse Of The Heart (Bonnie Tyler)

awful choice, he doesn't have the voice for this song

Paul Akister- If You Don't Know Me By Now (Simply Red)

boring

Jack Walton - Straight Up (Paula Abdul)

don't know this song

Chloe Jasmine - Fame (Irene Cara)

really? such a cheesy song

Lauren Platt - What A Feeling (Irene Cara)

another Irene Cara song?!? imagine this will be modernised though and with her voice it'll be a good perf

Lola Saunders - Imagine (John Lennon)

another 'too safe' choice

Stephanie Nala - Call Me (Blondie)

meh

Only The Young - Come On Eileen (Dexy's Midnight Runners)

could be better than last week but still not a big fan of the song choice

Stereo Kicks - Boys Of Summer (Don Henley)

meh

Ben Haenow - Jealous Guy (Donny Hathoway)

meh

Fleur East - It's A Shame (Monie Love)

don't know this song

Jay James - I'm Gonna Be - 500 Miles (The Proclaimers)

NO

Stevi Ritchie - Never Gonna Give You Up (Rick Astley)

NONONO. can't have him ruin this song

on the whole not good :(

well no, there is a bit of a difference. lauren is altering the song because she has a voice to make it work. stephanie is altering the song because she doesn't have a voice so needs silence to let the world hear just how poor it is.

EVERYONE should have the privilege of knowing Straight Up!!

According to Jessie J's mailer, she's performing Bang Bang on Sunday.

Oh dear god, she is singing a song for three people by herself!

A solo version is on the net somewhere, I imagine she'll do that version.

Surprised no-ones mentioned there are songs in there not from the 80s!!!! Tho Imagine did go to #1 in the 80s.
That Monie Love song is from 1990, I thought Simon of all people would actually adhere to the theme  Usuallt it's Louis who's wildly out and he'd have Stereo Kicks singing One Direction and justify it with the fact that their parents were alive in the 80s.

Straight Up is an AMAZING choice, Jack to channel Raja please~

Only the Young's song change is a dreadful move however, I can think of no song that less represents what style they should be going for :/

The iTunes songs are now available (and therefore the 30 second previews), Steph does seem to have changed up 'Call Me' and it's suiting her much better than I thought based on the preview. Chloe has also slowed down 'Fame' and Lauren has also slowed down 'What A Feeling' and they both sound really good too! I have a feeling Lauren's version of 'What A Feeling' is the same version Drew did back on X Factor USA season 1.
I hope Lauren slowing down tracks doesn't become a regular thing. She slowed down Happy a bit last week and now this, keep it upbeat
Yeah Lauren could be in danger of being the Janet Devlin of this season if she continues. An early favourite but turns out to be a bit of a one trick pony, so people will get bored.

Ah, good to see Jack isn't copying Andrew Garcia (could have sworn it was Danny Gokey but I looked and it wasn't) from American Idol! It's less stripped back but still obviously changed to suit him.

I do hope Lauren does what she did with Happy and have the original kick in halfway through, changing songs to suit herself by making them slower every week could see her falter as much as I adore her... Looking forward to Lauren, Jack, Stephanie, Chloe and Fleur anyway!

If Lauren's performance is as good as Drew's was, I think we may see our first contestant to reach the iTunes top 10!
