Little of interest in this section. There's another brand new entry from the eternally fresh sounding Disclosure with their biggest UK hit, AlunaGeorge collaboration 'White Noise'. Despite being a bigger hit and having a FEMALE!!! vocalist it's done worse here than their debut hit 'Latch' which will be somewhere in the top 100.

Girls Aloud missed the top 200 with 'The Loving Kind' for the first time last year, a bit oddly as it had previously improved on its position with each edition and had just cracked the top 100 for the first time the year before. It now returns at #163, its third highest finish. Perhaps it's been helped by Cheryl Ann Fernandez-Versini Née Tweedy Formerly Cole Professionally Known As Cheryl Cole Or Just Cheryl's return to prominence.

Britney Spears' audio diarrhoea 'Piece Of Me' is still hanging around for some god forsaken reason and goes up two from last year. Groove Armada and Mutya Buena tumble nearly 100 places to 165th after spending the last two years in the top 100. Finally Kelis' 'Trick Me' has its last year in the contest and celebrates by a drop to 164th, its third lowest top 200 finish. It only made the top 100 once. Incidentally, AS IF that song is now a decade old!

160 120 2012 Ellie Goulding - Figure 8 236 51 4.627 (120 - 160)

158 241 2006 Lily Allen - LDN 200 43 4.651 (X - X - X - X - X - X - X - 158)

157 282 2007 Beyoncé - Listen 200 43 4.651 (X - X - X - 163 - X - X - 157)

156 364 2009 Noisettes - Never Forget You 214 46 4.652 (108 - 185 - X - X - 156)

First up in this section we come to one of Buzzjack's many acclaimed flops, one of Ellie Goulding's least successful singles in the real chart but one of our collective favourites here. The reason why: it's glorious. It albeit slips 40 places this time round but by doing so it leaves a very clean and professional looking chart run, maybe it'll be the first track in this thread the next time? It's sitting between two Britney tracks in this countdown, the latter being the most recent Britney track in the top 200. Till The World Ends is quite inoffensive but certainly nothing on Britney's past glories (then again nothing since 2004 has been), but here it just about fails to get a new peak, debuting at 157, dipping in 2013, then bouncing back this year. I wonder how much more of this it can do as non-big hits would be expected tend to fade over the years. It may not though.

One new entry to the top 200 and it's the oldest of these 5, being Lily Allen's second single and ode to the capital. I don't really have any strong feelings on it either way (although it's quirky and that's good) but it's always nice to see some new songs in from older times. Surprisingly it's done better than Smile for once, that only getting to 208th place this year after a mixed 'run' in the top 200. Always nice to see the charting underdog triumph.

Nearly new to these regions and unlike Till The World Ends, just obtaining a new peak is Beyoncé's 2007 soundtrack single Listen. It does have a few vocal fans and, well, vocally it's an impressive exercise, but that's not normally enough to get it this high, it's done exceptionally well this year though. Finally, a big welcome back to the Noisettes with their second (and clearly more loved) song Never Forget You. After a couple of years in the wilderness (and indeed it had to go through the first playoff this time) it's returned big time to the top end of our loved songs. Couldn't be more deserved, it's pretty flawless and deserved far more than the UK chart peak (a measly #20) that it had to settle for.

155 75 2009 Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone 214 46 4.652 (181 - 48 - 51 - 75 - 155)

154 200 2008 The Killers - Human 205 44 4.659 (46 - 73 - 109 - 113 - 200 - 154)

153 182 2005 The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize 219 47 4.660 (X - X - X - X - 163 - 45 - 129 - 182 - 153)

152 203 2009 Alexandra Burke feat. Flo Rida - Bad Boys 215 46 4.674 (X - X - X - X - 152)

151 62 2009 Lady Gaga - Paparazzi 215 46 4.674 (40 - 40 - 72 - 62 - 151)

Long irrelevant X Factor winner Alexandra Burke experiences some SUCCESS for the first time in years as she scores a top 200 new entry. Her debut single (looking over that MONSTROSITY of a cover, not that this one was much better) 'Bad Boys', which features Flo Rida and is terrible, breaks into the top 200 for the first time ever after missing out in its first four editions.

It apparently *just* missed a place in the top 200 last time - and here we also have the song that scraped into the top 200 in the last edition. The Killers' 'Human' has managed to barely maintain a continuous presence in the top 200 for six rounds of this game and after being the 'lucky' 200th place it now has a significant rebound to a safer 154th, though that's still its second worst ever finish. With 'Mr. Brightside' now exiting the game this is now the go-to Killers classic that's eligible for a place in the top 200, I hope to see it continue to rebound in the coming years.

Two of last year's top 75 fall just outside the top 150. Calvin Harris is top 200 for a 5th consecutive year with his #1 hit 'I'm Not Alone' (which remains *.* to this day) but can't manage a 4th straight year top 100 as he lands in 155th place. That's still a better showing than its debut year though. Meanwhile Lady Gaga misses the top 100 with 'Paparazzi' for the first time ever dropping 62-151.

The final song here is the brilliant 'Galvanize' [sic] by The Chemical Brothers and uncredited Q-Tip. It climbs 29 places to score its third best finish. Unfortunately it has so far only made the top 100 once - it has one more year to try and build on that.

Adore never forget you, never realised so many people loved it until I joined Buzzjack. I have always loved it

Piece of me, listen, paparazzi, bad boys, LDN and figure 8 are all amazing songs as well

150 111 2005 Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl 220 47 4.681 (X - 182 - X - X - 94 - 142 - 120 - 111 - 150)

149 55 2012 Ellie Goulding - Anything Could Happen 239 51 4.686 (55 - 149)

148 100 2010 Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood 216 46 4.696 (55 - 81 - 100 - 148)

147 91 2008 Adele - Hometown Glory 207 44 4.705 (X - X - 192 - 108 - 91 - 147)

146 358 2009 Beyoncé - Sweet Dreams 218 46 4.739 (96 - 128 - X - X - 146)

There is often perceived to be a rivalry between fellow Sound Of.. alumni, particularly when they both did well in the poll and market themselves to a similar audience. Then in that case it's perhaps apt that we see Ellie Goulding's highest song from her 2nd album and Marina's highest song from her first see a rather similar drop. Hollywood was bottom of the playoffs last time and Anything Could Happen was near bottom of the final but otherwise pretty similar (they even have the same peak!). Both have a song or two from their other albums still to come, which in Marina's case is a bit strange considering The Family Jewels is normally considered better than Electra Heart. This is Hollywood's lowest position though on with it seeing a continual slide, maybe it won't even be in the top 200 next time. EE EE EE EE. (but seriously, don't even think about it, 2015 voters)

Duffy's nowhere to be seen in this section of 5 (or even in the top 500) or we could extend the Sound Of analogy further to Adele, who's far outgrown that poll (in the biggest understatement of these results so far). Following its first time ever in the top 200 (note it's only gotten popular since 21 happened), Hometown Glory falls quite a bit but still remains the most popular song from 19. I find it a bit dull but each to their own, I'm hardly Adele's biggest fan anyway.

Two more female soloists complete the section, Hollaback Girl which has secured a comfortable position here in the last few years slips a bit but doesn't completely fall off Buzzjack's radar - as much as I wish it would, and doing something very similar to Never Forget You 10 places below it (indeed they've got scarily similar runs for being in the same year), Beyoncé's Sweet Dreams stormed through the playoff to regain its high finish and rightful place as the second most popular Bey song from her third album.

145 178 2004 Eric Prydz - Call On Me 229 48 4.771 (X - X - X - X - X - X - X - 178 - 145)

144 157 2010 Katy Perry - Firework 221 46 4.804 (133 - 101 - 157 - 144)

143 213 2006 Cascada - Everytime We Touch 207 43 4.814 (X - X - X - 125 - 152 - X - X - 143)

142 NE 2012 Jessie Ware - Wildest Moments 246 51 4.824 (X - 142)

141 156 2008 Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown - No Air 213 44 4.841 (163 - 89 - X - 180 - 156 - 141)

Eric Prydz' 'Call On Me' is arguably more well-known for its music video than the actual song itself. However, in a non-shady way, BuzzJack is probably not quite the target audience of that video. The song didn't bother the top 200 of this game until last year and it now climbs to #145 to end its Record of the Decade career on a high point.

Katy Perry's 'Firework' has a surprisingly unimpressive RotD history, despite being a big million-selling pop anthem from one of the site's favourite musicians (a song that even I like rather a lot, though I'm quite partial to most of Katy's back catalogue really) it has still never made it into the top 100, peaking one place short of it two years back. It rebounds a bit to #144 this year. Still plenty of chances in the future for it to get a more repesentative peak.

For some reason we've decided to bring back (the STILL UNFORGIVEN for that MJ incident) Cascada who return after 2 years in the wilderness with 'Everytime We Touch', one of their more tolerable songs but really that's like saying dog faeces is one of the more tolerable types of faeces. On a better note Jessie Ware scores a top 150 new entry with the excellent 'Wildest Moments' at #142. Until last week Ms. Ware had never managed a UK top 40 single but that hasn't stopped you all from knowing her well enough to get one of her songs this far. Finally Jordin Sparks' Chris Brown collab 'No Air' climbs a bit to #141, its fifth top 200 finish though it's only made the top 100 once.

136 NE 2013 Saturdays (feat. Sean Paul) - What About Us 274 56 4.893 (136)

*checks ROTD section allocation*

Two Saturdays songs next to each other? What did I do to deserve this? :(

Yes, there are two songs from Buzzjack's (current) favourite girlgroup in this section, one is the song that everyone thought was going to land them their first #1 before classic funny times kicked in and they landed at #3, the other is the one that actually did get them their long-awaited chart topper. What About Us is the better track though, yay. Both look like they'll keep their 100% record for a few years yet, while the Sats forum is still around, given that All Fired Up was just about in the top 100 last year I'm sure What About Us will do it sometime.

Another track with a far more impressive 100% record is Rihanna's Don't Stop The Music, which rebounds after nearly losing it last time, perhaps on its way back for more appreciation. A track peaking at #61 here does make the chart run look quite sad (it's the new #41) but maybe it will make the final one year. Maybe. In other news, Release Me doesn't quite contain the same amount of steam it had in 2013 where it had a marvellous year debuting at #64, but still registers its second-highest position while we all secretly wish Agnes and/or loads of other people from the Nordic countries had more of a career here.

Finally there's MGMT with Kids. Once the 12th best song of the decade, it's never fallen completely out of favour but the last year was pretty tough on it so it's good to see it head back up. A shame the same can't be said for its partner in crime/yin-yang rival Time To Pretend which fell all the way to 257th this time.

135 174 2010 Hurts - Wonderful Life 226 46 4.913 (X - 42 - 174 - 135)

134 70 2011 Marina & The Diamonds - Radioactive 228 46 4.957 (107 - 70 - 134)

133 135 2006 Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars 214 43 4.977 (9 - 6 - 29 - 102 - X - X - 135 - 133)

132 236 2011 Drake feat. Rihanna - Take Care 229 46 4.978 (X - X - 132)

131 NE 2013 CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share 281 56 5.018 (131)

It's a section of minor hits by BuzzIndie faves (and another BuzzIndie fave-ish with a hit that was pretty far from minor). I'm including Marina & The Diamonds in that as she started out as essentially indie pop, maybe closer to the pop end but alternative enough to have her discussion threads in our indie forum. There's no denying she's a fave on here though. 'Radioactive' was her first song to completely eschew any remaining indie cred she had and was coincidentally also her first song to be utterly dreadful. It rightfully bombed in the chart, prior to the still poppy but much better 'Primadonna' doing fairly well, but has done reasonably well here in all of its three years and its drop to #134 gives it its least successful showing to date.

Hurts had a big hit across Europe and possibly Australia/NZ if I recall correctly with 'Wonderful Life', but the home audience didn't quite take to it as much as it peaked at just #21 in the UK chart. It's nonetheless still their biggest hit and the song they're best known for, being their only UK top 40 entry. That is unless you count 'their' (in actuality only Theo's) feature on Calvin Harris and Alesso's #1 hit 'Under Control' of course. 'Wonderful Life' is a cool 80s-ish song which I have no beef with but I prefer some of the other singles off their debut album, especially 'Better Than Love' which is extremely underrated. 'Wonderful Life' rebounds a bit to #135 two years after it made it all the way to the grand final.

CHVRCHES have the other minor BuzzIndie fave hit here. 'The Mother We Share' is also their only top 40 hit in the UK, and only barely that, peaking at #38 (though it spent 2 weeks at that peak). It is an absolutely excellent song though and has a well deserved high-ish debut at #131.

Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Cars' made it all the way to the top 10 in its first two goes at this game. It quickly fell out of favour perhaps as people tired of its overplay but it's made somewhat of a resurgence the last two years, improving two places on its 2013 finish. My relationship with this song is well documented enough that I won't bother repeating it.

The final song here is from an entirely different genre but still has a nice little crossover with the BuzzIndie. Canadian rapper Drake's first UK top 10 hit as the lead artist so far, the title track from his second album 'Take Care' with a guest vocal from Rihanna (paying back the favour from 'What's My Name?') finally breaks the top 200 here at #132 after missing out in its first two attempts. The song is based around a sample of the Jamie xx rework of the late Gil Scott-Heron's 'I'll Take Care Of You'.

catching up;

Wonderful Life, The Mother We Share, Figure 8, Radioactive, Kids, Take Care, Wildest Moments, Galvanize etc. all slaying that top 200 <333

Canadian rapper Drake's only UK top 10 hit as the lead artist so far, the title track from his second album 'Take Care'

130 234 2012 Little Mix - DNA 256 51 5.020 (X - 130)

Our second-favourite song by Little Mix enters the top 200 for the first time at a rather respectable #130. I (and probably many others) didn't think they'd top this powerful, slightly dark, pop song, but of course they've proved us all wrong because this isn't their song that's in the final. Better luck next year early Little Mix. (still like you)

Two other girlband songs are hanging around here to make this quite the section for them. The Pussycat Dolls have probably the definition of a mixed history in this game with their debut single, a song that's seemingly only able to spend two years in the top 200 before ducking out. If it follows this pattern it'll exit this competition on a low next year. Which, as it's only made it a stage further once, in the second edition, and immediately crashed out, would look rather poor for it. Then, it's a bit novelty so it can hardly be expected to do amazingly. As is the other girlband song here, The Show, which DOES exit the game after four years out, three years higher up, never getting to the final but settling for mediocrity since. Apt. (Jay, Joseph, stop death glaring now, it'll hurt your eyes)

One of the best pop songs in the game fought and fought incredibly hard to gain a new peak, and I swear I didn't make that metaphor up because of the name because looking at that run and its performance in the 2009 final, Battlefield was fighting every inch of the way to get that. Rousing, uplifting, every other military metaphor you can think of, it's a joyful thing and instantly one of my favourites even in the great year of 2009.

Then the last song is not pop at all. Gold Digger continues coasting off the momentum that got it a top 100 place after years in the wilderness as it slips 13 places with one more year to fight back. Still, it's better than any result before 2012. Unbelievably though, it's only Kanye's second-highest song as a lead artist this time.

125 300 2006 My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade 218 43 5.070 (X - X - X - X - X - X - X - 125)

124 57 2010 Lady Gaga - Alejandro 234 46 5.087 (79 - X - 57 - 124)

123 49 2006 Justin Timberlake feat. Timbaland - SexyBack 219 43 5.093 (116 - 63 - X - 150 - X - 155 - 49 - 123)

122 NE 2013 Lady Gaga feat. R. Kelly - Do What U Want 287 56 5.125 (122)

121 NE 2013 Katy Perry - Roar 287 56 5.125 (121)

A music event of 2013 hyped up to be a big clash of the titans but ultimately just being a predictable embarrassment was the clashing release of the lead singles from two of female pop's biggest names. In the blue corner, Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (aka Katy Perry) with 'Roar', the lead single from her fourth studio album 'PRISM'. In the red corner, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (aka Lady Gaga) with 'Applause', the lead single from her third studio album 'ARTPOP'. Katy ultimately completely thrashed Gaga in every conceivable way, denying Gaga even a brief spell at #1 on iTunes. (Talking the USA here of course, in the UK 'Roar' was typically held back several weeks but even so 'Applause' peaked at only #5 while 'Roar' was a sizeable #1).

The battle repeats itself here, albeit a more idealised version of it - I think we can all say in retrospect that 'Applause' was a bit shit and Gaga would have been a lot better off had she released the much better second single 'Do What U Want' in its place. And if you disagree, then... I can't do anything, but you're not the one writing this commentary so I can ignore you. Katy wins the battle here again anyway by the tiniest of margins (I assume she got more votes in the 2013 final as they finished with exactly the same number of points, if not it's just alphabetical so tough luck to Gaga for not calling herself 'Jady Gaga' or whatever). Another one of Gaga's better songs, 'Alejandro' from her EP/deluxe version 'The Fame Monster', suffers a decline from a low final position last year to number 124 this year.

Justin Timberlake had a great year in Record of the Decade last time as he briefly returned to being one of the biggest names in music again. Now he's in pretty much the floppiest state of his career to date there's considerably less interest. 'SexyBack' tumbles from the top 50 to #123, though this still constitutes its 4th best finish and its 2nd best in the last 6 years.

Finally we have a third new entry. Emo rock is pretty far removed from traditional BuzzJack fare but even so it's hard to deny the appeal of My Chemical Romance's magnum opus 'Welcome To The Black Parade'. The song was a gloriously different sounding UK #1 and has always had a bit of a fanbase on here despite its genre but nonetheless failed to impact the top 200 until now, where it finally makes its debut at a respectable #125. Unfortunately MCR are no longer with us to witness this moment - they're all still alive of course but aren't together as a band any more.

MCR getting that high may be my favourite thing about the results this year, it's finally getting recognised as the EPIC it is. No idea how but I am so pleased for it.

120 115 2008 Elbow - One Day Like This 226 44 5.136 (X - X - X - 140 - 115 - 120)

119 104 2012 Lana Del Rey - Born To Die 262 51 5.137 (104 - 119)

118 138 2006 Rihanna - SOS 221 43 5.140 (43 - X - X - 71 - 151 - X - 138 - 118)

117 107 2012 Calvin Harris (feat. Florence Welch) - Sweet Nothing 263 51 5.157 (107 - 117)

116 101 2007 Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry 222 43 5.163 (140 - 128 - 156 - 137 - X - 101 - 116)

In this group of 5 we have two 2012 songs that seem intent on sticking together almost at the hip. Both fall 10/15 places from their 'nearly at the top 100' debut to end up only 2 places apart. One is the very wonderful angsty anthem Born To Die from Lana Del Rey who replaces My Chemical Romance as the big musical figure for teens to get emotional to. Don't have enough love for it. Only in Ride has she ever done something better (but I'll just keep that one as my hipster-esque choice seeing as that's a couple of hundred places lower down). The other is one of Calvin's endless hit singles from that year and honestly the only thing interesting about it for me is that it has Florence on it. Spectrum was far better and this somewhat unnecessary 'follow-up' has always felt a bit cold to me. Clearly other people disagree.

One Day Like This stays up in our affections as it slips slightly from its peak last year. Like Galvanize I'll always associate this somewhat with London 2012 when it finally achieved the impossible and got Elbow a top 5 single with their signature song. I can never tire of it these days, such an anthem and it's pleasing to see it's lost none of its momentum from that brief revival (which is one way I could attribute this run, otherwise I could just say Buzzjack's developed better taste but I've been kind enough with my rate today).

Big Girls Don't Cry, the most emotional Fergie's ever been and the only one of her solo efforts that I love/don't hate has spent one year since entering not between 101 and 160 and that continues this year. Still its second highest finish so that's not too bad for it. Far more mixed is another Rihanna single, which was in the first final it was eligible for but has struggled to stay consistent since. It rises 20 places to a pretty respectable, for pre-Umbrella Rihanna, 118th.

115 52 2006 Gnarls Barkley - Crazy 223 43 5.186 (103 - 48 - 98 - 86 - 119 - 37 - 52 - 115)

114 NE 2013 Iggy Azalea - Work 292 56 5.214 (114)

113 147 2012 Marina & The Diamonds - Primadonna 266 51 5.216 (147 - 113)

112 168 2009 Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You 241 46 5.239 (28 - 138 - 87 - 168 - 112)

111 131 2011 Ellie Goulding - Lights 241 46 5.239 (X - 131 - 111)

This is a section of continuous love as between them these five songs have clocked up just one non-top 200 appearance. Let's start with that one that missed the top 200 once - Ellie Goulding's 'Lights' holds the curious honour of being a song by a British act that was an enormous hit in the USA (even finishing in the top 5 of the 2012 year end Hot 100) while making no impact at all in its artist's home country. In fact, 'Lights' peaked at only #49 here. The discrepancy comes down to the fact it was a very late afterthought of a single here, the last off her debut album of the same name and released even after the 'Bright Lights' expansion despite being included on the original album. On the other hand, it was used as the launch single for Ellie's US career. Its lack of UK success meant it did nothing here in 2012 but it's since been more appreciated and climbs twenty places this year to a new peak of #111.

The track with the longest string of continuous love is Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy' which has been eligible for - and made the top 200 in - every edition of this game to date bar the first. It's had a fairly mixed run but never done *badly*, making the final three times, the final playoffs twice more and just missing out the other three times. The latter is true this year as it clocks its second lowest finish to date at #115. The song has aged pretty well in my opinion despite significant radio overplay.

Kelly Clarkson's 'My Life Would Suck Without You' got all the way to the top half of the final in its first year, while its memory was still fresh. It's never done quite as well since, only making the final playoffs one further time. It improves 168-112 this year, its third best finish. With or without me, the song still sucks. I mentioned my feelings on Marina & The Diamonds' 'Primadonna' two sections ago, so I'm naturally pleased to see it beating 'Radioactive' here, climbing 34 places from its debut last year.

Finally there is a new entry at #114 for a song I was expecting to do a lot better than this. 'Work' was the first hit single (excluding a minor top 50 as a feature on Steve Aoki and Angger Dimas' 'Beat Down') for Australian female rapper Iggy Azalea. It was a sleeper hit peaking at just number 17 but it remained her most memorable and highest selling hit for a while despite follow-ups 'Bounce' and 'Change Your Life' charting higher. That's all changed now of course as 'Fancy' blew it out of the water - and I really would watch out for that one to dominate this game next year. 'Work' is still her best for me.

Love Alejandro, do what u want, one day like this and SOS

Born To Die is so amazing and it is fantastic to see Lana top 100 with it. Amazing song

However even thought I a am a massive Lana fan, BTD is not my favourite from that section. I adore Big Girls Don't Cry- it is one of my favourite songs ever

My life would suck without you is so amazing. Love the lyrics, instruments and Kelly's voice so much in that song. Also adore the video

Even though I love Iggy, work is one of her only songs that I don't like

Primadonna is a great pop tune, crazy is a great song and I like Lights but there are many more better Ellie songs

I am loving this so much Bre and Iz. It is amazing

great to see Work and Lights both being appreciated despite not being big chart smashes. Lights even passed me by at the time but I gave it a chance after it blew up in the US chart and loved it!

110 96 2004 Natasha Bedingfield - These Words 253 48 5.271 (122 - 123 - 144 - 65 - X - 176 - X - 96 - 110)

109 152 2004 Kelis - Milkshake 253 48 5.271 (141 - X - X - X - X - X - 109 - 152 - 109)

108 130 2012 Girls Aloud - Something New 271 51 5.314 (130 - 108)

107 154 2011 Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks 253 46 5.500 (54 - 154 - 107)

106 54 2012 Of Monsters And Men - Little Talks 281 51 5.510 (54 - 106)

A sharp contrast between the old and the new as we start with two exiting singles but finish up with three from the last few years. These Words has always done pretty well but hasn't been entirely consistent in that and has never made the final. It finishes in a happy medium at 110th place. I've never gotten particularly excited about it like I have with Unwritten but it's pleasant enough.

Probably far more remembered though is Kelis' signature hit Milkshake, albeit probably her only track still in the public consciousness. It finishes its history as the highest Kelis track as Trick Me, which has a far more distinguished history, finished a lot lower this time. Curiously, after spending only 4 years in the top 200, one being the first, three being the most recent ones, it rebounds exactly to its peak two years ago and so TECHNICALLY finishes the highest it's ever been. Joint-highest. Or something.

Girls Aloud's final single nearly makes the top 100 this time (surely an inevitability sooner or later) but falls just short this time. I shall say no more, one of you stans can make up your own gloriously biased commentary. Don't forget the line 'it will win this in 3 years time'.

Finally we get to more the sort of music I like and it involves both of the songs that peaked at #54 in the last two years, themselves both being indie-rock tracks by one-hit wonder bands that never went top 10 despite hanging around for absolutely ages. Patterns! Pumped Up Kicks is a nice sort of indie-rock and I do like it but am never really drawn to listen to it. It finally finishes at a position not ending in -54 as it rebounds to the upper end of this 100. However, by a long way my favourite of these 5 is Of Monsters and Men, with their anthem Little Talks. Part of my 'every bit of music out now is so great' period in 2012 it is one of my highest played tracks ever, clocking in at 6th according to last.fm, and the reason why? It's so easy to listen to again and again, the contrast of the voices works incredibly well, and the build, especially on the middle 8, is pretty beautiful and it was getting played a lot between BJSC entry status and hit status. Unfortunately it fell just short of making it into the top 100 but being only 2 years old it has plenty of life left in it (to ACTUALLY win this in 3 years time. Make it happen).
