To be honest it's in the best interests of the record label to make sure Duke Dumont gets to #1 (it looks far better than a #2 in the eyes of the public and when Duke comes round to promoting his album he can brag about it having 3 #1 singles) and if doing so is as simple as choosing a non-competitive week for it then they may as well go for it, as desperate as it seems. It's a shame that the charts can be easily manipulated like this though. When streaming becomes a more powerful force I imagine the weekly turnover will be less of a thing and only the very popular songs will be #1s.

Rari Work Out was pushed back by a week to tomorrow just because Lethal Bizzle appeared on Soccer AM this morning, so that is another example of a song being pushed back by 1 extra week.

It looks like there is going to be 2 versions of Prayer In C in the iTunes top 10 this weekend, the lead that Lily Wood & The Prick are going to have tomorrow could be one of the biggest of the year so far. Tomorrow will most likely be the biggest sales day ever that the real version of Prayer In C will have in it's entire chart history.

This principal can be applied to 99% of held back releases.

I'm guessing that "This Woman's Work" (#49), "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" (#57) and "Wuthering Heights" are doing so well (#77) because of the documentary on BBC Four last night - I missed it, but I wish that "Cloudbusting" could be as successful and/or recognised. :(
Won't Look Back not being released for ANOTHER week is crazy, a wise move by the record label, but still - this song has been around for so long. I remember listening to it on the way to Glastonbury, in June!! Over two months on air before being released.
I can't believe how held back Won't Look Back has been. I remember hearing him play it during his set at Lovebox and even then it wasn't exactly the first time it had been heard.

I'm sadly not liking 2014 as much as 2013 music-wise so far. We had an amazing string of #1s last year. Hopefully Q4 will get me interested. Rihanna must surely be dropping her new single next week. Unless she's going to just drop it all of a sudden in November. I'm dreading the return of Adele and Emeli although I sense Emeli could severely underperform if she's releasing new stuff around Adele's return. Maybe even Adele will underperform herself.

When you say 'maybe even Adele will underperform' it depends. She's clearly not going to have another "21". Her next album will be massively frontloaded because she's become such a massive star and I wouldn't be surprised if she challenged Oasis' record for fastest selling-album (763,735 sales) if she releases in Q4 with a big promo slot (probably). If not she should at least beat Take That to get second place (518,601 sales needed).

Singles wise, I have no idea. "Skyfall" overperformed imo - I didn't expect it to have such longevity. It's certain that her first single should go top 2 at least, probably #1 depending on the competition.

Which ones were the Oasis & Take That albums?

Be Here Now and Progress respectively.

BHN was released off the back of the hugely successful Morning Glory which gained them many hardcore fans, and Progress was the return of Take That with Robbie.

Yeah.

Similarly, Adele will release "25" off the back of "21" and could have similar massive opening week sales but won't sell anywhere near as much in the long run.

Thanks, Be Here Now I should have guessed but I would have thought Beautiful World would have been the Take That one.

They completely skipped over 'Cloudbusting', for some reason! RUTH and Hounds of Love were the focus of that career era.

I was really waiting for Cloudbusting too :( I knew that Running Up That Hill, Wuthering Heights and This Woman's Work would be covered and Cloudbusting is my favourite aside from those, so it's a shame they didn't show it.

I heard it on the radio in my local corner shop the other day though and they always play Heart! :o I don't know if they just had a different station that day, I just heard Cloudbusting and then they played something else and I went out so didn't hear which station it was.

 06. Prayer in C - The Mega Giants

mess

at least the original is released in about an hour which means this version will drop a lot and won't make the official top 40
