August 25, 201410 yr God. I did not know that there were so many Erotica HATERS on here. GET EARS PEOPLE.
August 25, 201410 yr 'Take a Bow' is a beauty and one of the saving graces for the Bedtime Stories album. 'Erotica' is good, although I've always found it more sinister than sexual. :P I love the version Madonna performed on the Confessions Tour, which merged the original and the demo version I think. 'Deeper and Deeper' is a great little disco number, I tend to forget about it but really like it when I do hear it. 'American Life' did really well in the Madonna rate I did last year so a bit of a surprise to see it so low here - perhaps it's just a fan favourite? The video is one of my favourites, really shocking and horrific but fantastic from an artistic point of view.
August 25, 201410 yr Take A Bow is beautiful  Weird that it wasn't much of a hit in the UK, it's the sort of MOR that we usually eat up.
August 25, 201410 yr American Life is such a polarising song/Video/moment within her career. Probably the last time she was genuinely controversial, and not just out to shock for the sake of it. The video is nothing amazing in terms of production values, but it's f***ing intense, particularly the catwalk stuff with Bush on the big screen and the designers losing their shit. It's really disturbing. She was an idiot for pulling it. I even like the rap. Great fun to perform when drunk.
August 25, 201410 yr Author I'm not religious, but i feel so moved XTSrV_0vG-4 | 41 // Human Nature // Bedtime Stories // 7.00 (3: gezza, 4: mikemyers// 10: cassandra, 9: sweetcandy, joe., tyler, jay, ultraviolence, dandy, luciano, leww, randomfurlong, ) | 42 // Miles Away // Hard Candy // 6.98 (2: triangles // 10: nickf1, tyler, liam, lexc) | 43 // Nothing Fails // American Life // 6.97 (2, gavindeejay, 3: fgiboy, 4: pippa, titty // 11: regina, 10: randomfurlong, mikemyers) | 44 // Dress You Up // Like A Virgin // 6.97 (3: triangles, 4: fgiboy, dandy, sweetcandy // 11: niallminogue, 10: silverrocket) And the final bunch of songs before we really delve into the best of the best, starting with the undeniably feel-good and cheery 'Dress You Up'. The final single to be released from the album and coupled with a live performance video which just makes me soooo desperate to see her live even at this stage. Commanding an entire venue with such a plucky, little song. Gah. Also merging all the ideas of fashion and glamour that made the 80s era Madonna special. Another single from 'American Life' drops out now, as fails to crack the top 40. Stripped back at times, but building into a huge final half complete with gospel choir, the song was released to draw back attention that was lost in the US at the time of the album's release - it however, also did nothing on the charts there and didn't even have a music video to accompany it. A silent release and reception for one of her loudest and proudest singles. The first appearance from 'Hard Candy', sees 'Miles Away' avoid a lot of hate but garner a lot of mid-table scores for a mid-table finishing position. A song that throwsback to an earlier Madonna of sorts, and seems to get caught up in the hard-hitting sounds of the album, but one of the few single choices she had on it (i will probably forever hold a grudge against it being released, as 'Devil Wouldn't Recognise You' is my absolute favourite and should have been used instead for purely selfish reasons). And just missing out on the top 40 is 'Human Nature' which seems to send a message out to all that turned their noses up at the erotic Madonna that was developing around them. A stupidly iconic/ironic video to match the quirkiness of the song and lyrics, it's ultimately tongue-in-cheek and more of a bedtime nightmare than story; a beautiful nightmare.
August 25, 201410 yr Take A Bow was a lovely song, never fussed on Girl Gone Wild and hate American Life such awful songs. Miles Away was ok but there were better songs on Hard Candy than that, and shame that Dress You Up is out already just love it
August 25, 201410 yr Girl Gone Wild OH Father Deeper & Deeper Dress you up Take a bow How are these not top 40 ? Criminal Can't believe I missed this rate !!!
August 25, 201410 yr have a strange aversion to 'take a bow', never been sure quite why! devastating to see 'nothing fails' not even top 40 - one of her most powerful moments for sure! the way it builds from such a simple opening to the orchestral majesty of the end is bewitching. p.s. gorgeous presentation haus! lovely to read. August 25, 201410 yr I remember hearing 'Dress You Up' for the first time when I bought Celebration and it kicked off CD2 so well! Instantly loved it when I heard it, just something so powerful about that intro and you just know that the song is going to be great! The album version of 'Miles Away' is best, due to the part in the final minute where there's this beat with "so far away" fading out. 'Human Nature' is weird in sound (which I like) and has a good message. The Stick & Sweet Tour version is worth checking out. I wish I gave 'Nothing Fails' a higher score, it's one that stops you in your tracks and makes you sit back and listen to the song, which is particularly emphasised by being slap bang in the middle of an album full of generally quite experimental and electronic album.
August 26, 201410 yr Author Will be dropping the first set of ALBUMS before getting into the top 40. Any predictions/preferences for the bottom few? :o
August 26, 201410 yr fight between Bedtime Stories, Erotica and MDNA for last place, I'd imagine! let's guess: 12. MDNA 11. Bedtime Stories 10. Erotica should be MDNA as the other two have too much goodness on them!
August 26, 201410 yr I fear Erotica will be veyr low down going by the lack of love for the singles :(
August 26, 201410 yr Erotica is the best album by a long way.. Hopeful that MDNA is way down the list
August 26, 201410 yr Take A Bow is beautiful  Weird that it wasn't much of a hit in the UK, it's the sort of MOR that we usually eat up. I do find it curious that it was 'Take A Bow' that ended her 10 year stretch of UK Top 10 hits! Especially considering it was such a huge hit in the US. I love it.
August 26, 201410 yr Author I'm addicted to your love AdhcHjnC8oo | 12 // MDNA // 2012 // 5.89 (2: dandy, fgiboy, triangles, 2.5: pippa, 3: jakewild, gezza // 10: regina, ultraviolence, 9: goodelta, 8.5 sweetcandy) And perhaps surprising no one, the least favourite Madonna album is her most recent effort, 'MDNA'. A party album at heart, with moments of vulnerability to help with the morning after, it starts incredibly explosively with an apology to the listeners, almost foretelling what is to come on the album. Tracks like 'I'm Addicted' follow the drug-induced theme, but it's not enough to send the music sky-high, as it instead falls free and ultimately lacks any real substance that all of her previous albums had. Quieter moments in the likes 'Masterpiece', 'Best Friend' and 'Falling Free' sound slightly out of place but they are a welcome escape from the brazen attitude that the rest possesses; expressed perfectly in the magnificently deranged which ricochets off the scale of normality into complete insanity. And then there's the truly horrific  perhaps my least favourite effort from her ever, the diabolical and the so-bad-it's-actually-iconic 'Beautiful Killer' which just show off how off-the-rails the album is. Still away from all of that, it's fun at heart and doesn't take itself too seriously (at least i hope it doesn't), and with wonderful cover art and title, it's not a completely lost cause.. Commercially the album wasn't a roaring success. It debuted at #1 in the US (becoming her 8th #1 album there) and in the UK, but subsequent sales of the album went into terminal decline, leaving a very muted legacy on the public with none of the singles really doing the business. Alongside the album came a huge tour (the 10th highest grossing of all-time), flattering photoshoots and a chance for Madonna to connect with the public through Superbowl performances and collaborations with "of-the-moment" stars, but ultimately, as you all seem to mostly agree, a move away from the MD*A is probably needed if there's any hope of reclaiming her former glory. -x- 41 | Human Nature 42 | Miles Away 43 | Nothing Fails 44 | Dress You Up 45 | American Life 46 | Erotica 47 | Deeper and Deeper 48 | Take A Bow 49 | I'll Remember 50 | Girl Gone Wild 51 | Oh Father 52 | Bedtime Story 53 | Masterpiece 54 | American Pie 55 | Don't Cry For Me Argentina 56 | Causing A Commotion 57 | Angel 58 | This Used To Be My Playground 59 | Love Profusion 60 | You Must Love Me 61 | Give Me All Your Lovin' 62 | Bad Girl 63 | Everybody 64 | Keep It Together 65 | Dear Jessie 66 | Turn Up The Radio 67 | Hanky Panky 68 | Fever -x- 12 | MDNA
