September 14, 201412 yr I think "Miles Away" is better than "Beautiful Stranger". I don't think "Beautiful Stranger" is bad, it's actually good... But not her top 20 of all time. I think "Miles Away" is brilliant and her best singles since "Celebration". Edited September 14, 201412 yr by Tyler~
September 14, 201412 yr Author You deserve the best in life IxNBaoWrbzs | 11 // Express Yourself // Like A Prayer // 8.61 (2: fgiboy, 3.5: omie, // 11: johnkm, joe., 10: liam, niallminogue, jark, titty, ultraviolence, gavindeejay, jsilv, oliver, mikemyers) The final track before we enter the essential top 10, is yet another hugely iconic and influential number, taken from her 'Like A Prayer' album and released as its second single. Another song about self-empowerment and perhaps one of the most well known songs of its kind, it's incredibly uplifting and joyous. The song was highly praised by critics and the public, who fully embraced it and its message and the sales and legacy it has left behind reflect this. The song explores how without expressing yourself, you will never get what you want, and the power struggle that exists in every relationship can only be manageable by loving yourself. In a semi-rejection to the material world that she explored in an earlier album, here she embraces the self over that. Madonna explained in interviews that if men could express themselves how they wanted, then so too should women be able to. The music video deserves special mention (and is one of my favourites) as David Fincher turned to Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis' for the inspiration and created a complex, intricate piece of art. It went on to win a trio of MTV Video Music awards and has since inspired and enthralled new listeners and artists. Most notably, Lady Gaga, who received a tirade of comparisons between her own song, 'Born This Way' and this. The fact that the video for that song too took inspiration from 'Metropolis' perhaps drew the line a little too close, but it just goes to show how influential and long-standing the simple song, with its simple message is. She's not me. A lovely way to draw a close to the countdown up until now, before we get into the best of the best. I'll post a list of the top 10 songs in contention for the win after the next album reveal... Which is...
September 14, 201412 yr Forgot this was still to come! It's obviously a classic but I've never really liked it as much as most. 'Born This Way' all the way! :cheer:
September 14, 201412 yr Ah, I love Express Yourself. We actually learnt a dance to it during PE at school once, what a lovely pop gem. All those huge hits dropping like flies now :(
September 14, 201412 yr One of those songs that smacks me with its brilliance every single time I listen. Too genius ever to get old. All about the Immaculate Collection mix, as with LaP.
September 14, 201412 yr Express Yourself is so much fun, a real classic  never fails to make me want to dance and smile
September 14, 201412 yr Author If you should ever doubt, wonder what love is all about, just think back and remember dear, those words whispered in your ear 3mlu2omuz0g | 04 // True Blue // 1986 // 8.37 (1: jakewild, 5: triangles // 11: niallminogue, luciano, 10: randomfurlong, ultraviolence, gezza, cassandra, robswift, haus, mikemyers, fgiboy, joe.) Madonna's 3rd album, released in the mid 80s ranks as your 4th favourite from her, mustering up very few low scores and a load of love. A girly album through and through it deals greatly with conventional ideas of love and was inspired by her then husband Sean Penn. Musically the album departs from the sounds of her previous efforts as she attempted to attract an older audience. Lyrically however it remains vintage Madonna, a girl looking to her future as well as to the trials of her present. It was the album that got more people listening and appreciating her as an artist, both in terms of songwriting (which suddenly became so much more mature), but also vocally. All of this led to a huge commercial success as it broke records, peaking at #1 in 28 countries around the world, spent a record number of weeks in the European Album Chart, and has gone to become one of the all-time highest selling albums. A phenomenal success and the one that cemented Madonna's career in the record books; she was an icon of sorts before this, but it was here that she became the pop queen she is today. Wonderful artwork too, so beautifully depicting Madge in all her innocent bliss. Inside the album, it's a mixture of true blue and glowing red as the passion oozes through. Album opener 'Papa Don't Preach' shows how far she has come from the last album as she opens up to the core and sings of a girl telling her father that she is pregnant out of wedlock; it extends beyond this meaning to a universal cry for help and is perhaps the biggest song the album features. As she opens up so painfully in the first song, she then pleads others to open their own hearts in another huge single. Taking inspirations from the world of cinema too in which includes quotes from the film of the same name and then moving to girly issues in her notable bad boy lusting of and escaping the stresses of life as she ponders . Originally penned as the album's lead single (and performed at Live Aid a year earlier), closes the album and perfectly depicts the trueness of the love she's presented throughout it. The album is detailed and complex, but mostly it is innocent, care-free and young at heart. Beautifully written and sung there is a song for every emotion here, and it's the emotion that shines through more than anything. -x- 11 | Express Yourself 12 | Beautiful Stranger 13 | Jump 14 | Celebration 15 | Material Girl 16 | Open Your Heart 17 | Don't Tell Me 18 | Get Together 19 | Borderline 20 | Like A Virgin 21 | Music 22 | Holiday 23 | Live To Tell 24 | Die Another Day 25 | Justify My Love 26 | Cherish 27 | Nothing Really Matters 28 | Lucky Star 29 | You'll See 30 | Crazy For You 31 | Drowned World/Substitute For Love 32 | 4 Minutes 33 | Hollywood 34 | True Blue 35 | Give It 2 Me 36 | Burning Up 37 | Secret 38 | Rain 39 | Who's That Girl 40 | What It Feels Like For A Girl 41 | Human Nature 42 | Miles Away 43 | Nothing Fails 44 | Dress You Up 45 | American Life 46 | Erotica 47 | Deeper and Deeper 48 | Take A Bow 49 | I'll Remember 50 | Girl Gone Wild 51 | Oh Father 52 | Bedtime Story 53 | Masterpiece 54 | American Pie 55 | Don't Cry For Me Argentina 56 | Causing A Commotion 57 | Angel 58 | This Used To Be My Playground 59 | Love Profusion 60 | You Must Love Me 61 | Give Me All Your Lovin' 62 | Bad Girl 63 | Everybody 64 | Keep It Together 65 | Dear Jessie 66 | Turn Up The Radio 67 | Hanky Panky 68 | Fever -x- 04 | True Blue 05 | Music 06 | Like A Virgin 07 | American Life 08 | Erotica 09 | Madonna 10 | Bedtime Stories 11 | Hard Candy 12 | MDNA
September 14, 201412 yr Author I just got a tad emotional writing that up and reading about the legacy it has :/ Only recently, but the album has shot up so high in my affections and has really helped me with stuff this past year :drama: GAH i'm a mess and we still have 3 more albums to come
September 14, 201412 yr true blue is one i'm not OVERLY familiar with... in fact i think everything before the bedtime stories / something to remember era madonna is quite hazy to me but it was a rly nice listen.
September 14, 201412 yr A strong album but we definitely got the right top three. COAD and Ray Of Light are both completely life enhancing opuses and Like A Prayer's legacy speaks for itself.
September 14, 201412 yr All about the Immaculate Collection mix, as with LaP. Umm, WHAT?????? LAP Immaculate mix is f***ING DIRE. Express Yourself is amazing though, but I cannot quite believe you think that LAP is better and I'm going to focus on that and judge you INTENSELY.
September 14, 201412 yr Anyway, Express Yourself missing the top 10 is hideously wrong in and of itself.
September 14, 201412 yr is someone gonna kill me for saying i honestly didn't know 'express yourself' existed before 'born this way'?

Very much agreed with this. True Blue is responsible for one of Madonna's best string of singles. All are somewhat classics too - 'Papa Don't Preach' and 'La Isla Bonita' speak for themselves, 'Open Your Heart' and 'True Blue' can still be heard on radio today, and 'Live to Tell' is one of Madonna's most emotional. The albums tracks are very fun, pop and "lovey dovey" which is exactly what the album is meant to be about.
September 14, 201412 yr is someone gonna kill me for saying i honestly didn't know 'express yourself' existed before 'born this way'? You're lucky you live across an OCEAN because right now I would be ORDERING A HIT ON YOU hand in your gay badge and flag at the door bbz, you are no longer welcome in this thread
