Can't say I agree with your narrative for 'Crazy for You' Haus! :o I've always found it's been highly celebrated among fans and I am actually surprised it's not got any higher than just scraping the Top 30! Beautiful song, her first ballad single in fact and it remains one of her best to date. That opening melody really draws you in and puts you in a sentimental mood. I love how raw her vocals are in parts, definitely adds to the emotion of the song.

'You'll See' is also a beauty. Perhaps not so remembered in general but I think it's definitely still appreciated by the fans. Again, Madonna's voice brings a lot of emotion. People have often complained through the years that Madonna doesn't have a very strong voice, but to me she doesn't need vocals like Whitney or Celine to pull off ballads.

Yeah I wouldn't agree with the analysis of 'Crazy For You' either. I'd say it was one of her most definitive and well-remembered 80s singles!

Both this and 'You'll See' are too far down for my liking!

Thirded, it gets a lot of love. It's not something I play often but the Reinvention tour version is killer.
'Crazy For You' is way too low! Then again, I really like 'You'll See'.

Crazy For You and You'll See are both INCREDIBLE. The video for the latter is also one my very fave Madge looks (and videos). What always raised early Madge balladry above what could be a run of the mill song for me was her voice. She obv never had a hugely technically skilled voice, but she had such emotion in her singing, especially on ballads. Crazy For You and You'll See would both be great songs by anyone, but with her vox on top I definitely think that raises them to very special status.

Essentially what Liam97 has said.

both decent enough tracks there but still bitter over hollywood

+1

Though, I agree with saying "Crazy For You" is one of her most iconic singles.

Crazy For You is her worst single for me, dullll :(

I just think of you and I start to glow

| 27 // Nothing Really Matters // Ray Of Light // 7.56 (5: jakewild, tyler, cdc, pippa // 11: triangles, sweetcandy, 10: randomfurlong, robswift, candy)

| 28 // Lucky Star // Madonna // 7.53 (1: jakewild, 4: triangles, 5: gezza // 10: luciano, randomfurlong, jark, titty, ultraviolence, jsilv, sweetcandy)

I feel this is where we get into serious territory looking at the scores. A huge heap of high scores and still *only* managing to sneak into the top 30 because a few dud scores, first up is the opening track to Madonna's debut album, the celestial

and also the first proper whiff at chart success as it became her first top 5 hit in the US whilst also establishing her as an icon away from the music and into her aesthetics. There's no denying why either; incredibly joyous and feelgood, and it's no wonder it's been performed throughout her career and remains an absolute beauty in her back catalogue. Lyrically she's done far better, but for all the innocence she pours into the song, you can't snuff it. Does music get any more cheery than it does here?

And proving how tough the competition is, the first song to not receive below a 5(!) is Ray Of Light's fifth and final single,

. Hugely inspirational, the song is such a deep and complex piece around its simple lyrics and concept and was inspired by her daughter, Lordes, just making it all the more personal and touching. This inspiration is brought about in the video too, which would rank as another of my absolute favourites from her as it merges everything that makes the artist great and has since gone on to inspire so many after it. Her trademark kimono, the devilish beauty of the costuming, the rich colours, the ghostly moves, all brought together through the music. The fact that such a horrifying video at times can be so touching and beautiful shows how layered it is and how rich the whole project was. Urging you to give it another watch because it is so cinematic, precious and enlightening <3

So tired of broken hearts and losing at this game

| 25 // Justify My Love // The Immaculate Collection // 7.64 (3: liam, 4: robswift, jsilv // 11: titty, 10: jakewild, joe. fgiboy, cassandra, jay, leww, luciano)

| 26 // Cherish // Like A Prayer // 7.56 (1: tyler, 3: jakewild, 4: oliver, o'mie, regina // 11: mr_aly, 10: gooddelta, niallmonogue, mikemyers, fgiboy)

The third single from Like A Prayer,

showed a change in subject matter from the album's previous singles and returned to a more carefree Madonna just willingly expressing her love for another. Another insanely feelgood track that was quite obviously a commercial success and became her 16th consecutive top 5 hit in the US further cementing that the 80s pretty much belonged to her music. Taking her inspiration for the lyrics from Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, the song is just as sickly sweet as their romancing. Oh and the video features cute mermen which is always a bonus.

And entering the top 25, taken from her huge Immaculate Collection, is

, Madonna's 9th US #1. A song that almost foreshadows the style she was to take on 'Erotica' with her speaking through most of the song away from the usual melodic tones she took previously. It also foreshadows the controversy, sexualisation and brashness of that album as the accompanying music video proves. Very filmic again, the video is provocative, sensual and filthy at times but it perfectly fits in with the song and all of this shocking hype around it meant it went on to become the highest selling video single of all time! Score~

Cherish is soooooooo overrated. Never been a fan.
I like Cherish and all, but compared with nearly every other single from the album it just sounds a bit basic. It's a nice enough song, but it just isn't special enough to be that high or that beloved.

So true you said it thrice.

It's certainly a few shades too basic to be this high up.

'Justify My Love'. I criminally overlooked this song until last year. One of her very best!

Sigmund Freud, analyse this

| 23 // Live To Tell // True Blue // 7.75 (2: oliver, 2.5: o'mie, 4: gavindeejay // 11: lexc, randomfurlong, 10: jay, cassandra, dandy, jark, luciano, gooddelta, johnkm, regina)

| 24 // Die Another Day // American Life // 7.67 (2: aled, 5: gavindeejay, dandy, gooddelta, pippa // 11: jonjo, casey, 10: niallminogue, leww, randomfurlong, cassandra, oliver, jakewild)

Madonna does Bond. With explosive results. Eventually tagged onto her 'American Life' album, 'Die Another Day' fits in perfectly with the f*** you attitude the album takes and the all-guns blazing sound it employs. With multiple award nominations and commercial success, the song was not without its haters (as shown here too) but it is undoubtedly one of her loudest and proudest singles and i love every second of it. Lyrically the song is incredibly fun as it masks its darker undertones, and musically it's completely zany and unlike anything she's ever done. As it slowly attempts to build, it's continually met with harsh raptures that disrupt the flow, but it ultimately does get the release it deserves in its final moments which are ballsy, bold and intersected with Madonna's manic laughs. Sigmund Freud levels of genius.

And toning it down somewhat but still all the more filmic as the last, is

which was initially used for the film 'At Close Range' before being included as part of 'True Blue'. Madonna's 3rd US #1 and an all round beauty, her vocals are silky smooth throughout and led wonderfully by that enchanting instrumentation. With a simple but effective video, where Madonna channels Marilyn Monroe, the pain and anguish of the lyrics are really brought to life. A deeply personal song for Madonna, though the same would probably be true for any listeners given the rawness of the lyrics, it's timeless and could well be her greatest ballad to date? Maybe.

Another great batch of songs, always loved Cherish and Lucky Star both so girlie and fun. Die Another Day is another fantastic track just loved that video and plus one of the only decent tracks on American Life, so glad it was on there
