September 15, 201411 yr Pretty incredible for Sam Smith to get a post-album Top 3 hit, especially considering how well the album has sold. Never would have predicted that a few weeks ago! That is a whopping drop for Duke Dumont. Would have seemed like a very bizarre drop from #1 had it got there, it's usually only boyband singles that post falls like that! I think if it had got to #1, it maybe wouldn't have fallen so much in its second week due to the #1 effect - probably still low Top 10 though so still would have been quite bizarre. September 15, 201411 yr Wasn't that Sharon Corr album a re-issue anyway? All the reviews on Amazon are from months ago. It came out in Brazil last year so the diehards, including myself, imported it then. Strange that it's taken a year to make it to the UK.
September 15, 201411 yr Disappointed that G.R.L fell out of the Top 20 considering that it was stable in the Top 15 all week on iTunes (And still is now) - Streaming is really hammering boy/girl bands.
September 15, 201411 yr And fair play to M.A.D for getting a Top 40 album - They really have mastered the art of record signings and multi purchases, Will be interesting to see if it can manage another week in the charts as they are continuing their album signings this week.
September 16, 201411 yr It's bizarre to have John Newman and Sam Smith in the same chart top three given they're perhaps the most faceless duo of 'talent' that Britain has produced in the past few years. I doubt anyone will remember "Blame" this time next year and they don't particularly have reason to. Good on Calvin for finally realising that he needn't hold back his "massive chart hit" eight weeks to score a #1 single.
September 16, 201411 yr It's strange to think that we now live in a time where post-album Top 3 singles are so rare.
September 16, 201411 yr Author 'All Of Me' is the only other post-album single to make the top 3 this year so far (as well as 'Hey Brother' holding onto the top 3 in the first few weeks of the year) - it's not directly comparable as the album only achieved major success after that became a hit but it did already go top 40 on release so it wasn't exactly a 'Let Her Go' situation either.
September 16, 201411 yr ^ Wow, I had no idea All Of Me was a post-album single! :o It's strange to think that we now live in a time where post-album Top 3 singles are so rare. Yeah, it's strange, but it seems like a very recent thing, since even just a few years ago they seemed more common than now. That said, other people like Jason Derulo, Paloma Faith, Iggy Azalea recently got some top 10. Ed Sheeran's next single could be the first this year to get #1. September 16, 201411 yr Ed Sheeran's next single could be the first this year to get #1. Oh please no...
September 16, 201411 yr I very much doubt 'Thinking Out Loud'* will go to #1 especially as it's already sold lots (over 100k surely) *assuming that is the next single
September 16, 201411 yr I very much doubt 'Thinking Out Loud'* will go to #1 especially as it's already sold lots (over 100k surely) *assuming that is the next single It's sold over 200k! Streams included. Impressive for something which isn't (yet) a single :o
September 16, 201411 yr It's sold over 200k! Streams included. Impressive for something which isn't (yet) a single :o Ed Sheeran coming for Emeli Sandé's pretentious wig! :o (until they make TOL a single obviously)
September 16, 201411 yr I can see 'Thinking Out Loud' being boosted into the top 3 at least with an X-Factor performance later in the year.
September 16, 201411 yr I suppose that's true about the song already having sold a lot, but it's happened before. For example What's My Name by Rihanna sold over 300,000 before it got to #1. Telephone by Lady Gaga and Paradise by Coldplay would've sold a lot too before getting to #1.

When it does happen now at least you know the song is incredibly popular & it sometimes happens for artists that our massive in their current chart era!
