September 24, 201410 yr Chart Highlights: Meghan Trainor Tops Pop Songs With 'All About That Bass' By Gary Trust | September 22, 2014 Her debut smash is the chart's record-tying fifth consecutive leader by a rookie act. Pop Songs *** No. 1 (1 week)*** "All About That Bass" Meghan Trainor Rookies continue to rule pop radio, as Meghan Trainor takes over atop Mainstream Top 40 with her debut hit "All About That Bass" (2-1). The coronation contributes to a record-tying trend at the format: the song marks the fifth consecutive No. 1 by an act in a first chart visit (as a lead), following Charli XCX's "Boom Clap," Sam Smith's "Stay With Me," MAGIC!'s "Rude" and Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong." The streak matches that of five straight No. 1s by new acts in 1997: Savage Garden ("I Want You"), Hanson ("MMMBop"), Meredith Brooks ("Bitch"), OMC ("How Bizarre") and Third Eye Blind ("Semi-Charmed Life"). Programmers have attributed the current crop of freshman hits to both song quality and a lull in product from established format stars. "Bass," meanwhile, Trainor's first No. 1 on a Billboard airplay chart, is the Greatest Gainer on Adult Pop Songs (7-4) and debuts on Dance Club Songs (No. 37) and even Latin Pop Songs (No. 38). It's led the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks running. Greatest Gainer No. 3 "Shake It Off" Taylor Swift Debut No. 34 "Secrets" Mary Lambert Debut No. 39 "V. 3005" Childish Gambino Debut No. 40 "Heroes (We Could Be)" Alesso Featuring Tove Lo Billboard Edited September 24, 201410 yr by Euphorique
September 24, 201410 yr J-Lo getting a Top 20 hit by shoving her arse in front of the camera. Stay classy world.
September 24, 201410 yr J-Lo getting a Top 20 hit by shoving her arse in front of the camera. It's funny cos it's true. Didn't know ~adult films~ (that happen to have soundtracks) could make the top 20 on the Hot 100 :o
September 24, 201410 yr I am glad that we don't include things like YouTube views in the UK. When you look at where it is on iTunes compared to its chart position it shows how little interest there is in the song itself. Shame Clean Bandit missed out another week despite staying within the top 10 downloads of the week. I am worried this will just peak around 11 or 12. Still a good position but saying it is a US top 10 looks so much better.
September 25, 201410 yr Tove Lo up to #13, never ever expected such a song to do so well on Billboard! Extremely pleased :D
September 25, 201410 yr There's a good chance Habits will be top ten next week. That really does make me ridiculously happy. Esp as it's the superior original.
September 25, 201410 yr Rather Be, Habits and Bailando deserve a top10 placing. Might be too late for Bailando though, but the other 2 might still sneak in
September 25, 201410 yr Author Rather Be, Habits and Bailando deserve a top10 placing. Might be too late for Bailando though, but the other 2 might still sneak in Clean Bandit, definitely. The airplay isn't high enough for Tove Lo, and Enrique's airplay is already falling, so too late.
September 26, 201410 yr I am glad that we don't include things like YouTube views in the UK. When you look at where it is on iTunes compared to its chart position it shows how little interest there is in the song itself. I wouldn't mind Youtube being in the UK chart tbh. Songs like Booty and Hot Boy only come once every few weeks, most of the rest of the chart is pretty "normal". And I'd argue with those songs they are well-known, even if it's due to viral videos, so perhaps they deserve to be charting.
September 26, 201410 yr Clean Bandit, definitely. The airplay isn't high enough for Tove Lo, and Enrique's airplay is already falling, so too late. Habits was only sent to Rhythmic and Urban radio this week though, so maybe it might still climb
September 27, 201410 yr There's a good chance Habits will be top ten next week. That really does make me ridiculously happy. Esp as it's the superior original. I think it's the remix, it's just credited differently.
