No, I meant the vinyl itself is a boring release - nothing added to it with a recycled design from a previous single. Thta's all. I wish it would have been a more interesting release, with the same design as the CD (or similar), and maybe a couple of extras.

Oh well...

The product description on the Rough Trade site matches the exact text from the 2020 release, so it might just be a case of Rough Trade accidentally attaching the CD/digital artwork on the product pag

Anything to give it exposure would be good, with so many greatest hits now in the top 100 for years on end it would be nice to see the this been another one. Anyone know if this is far off triple plat

I'm not sure a vinyl release of a Greatest Hits is the place to add extras. The design is subjective, I think a plain black vinyl with the original cover would be cool too and I'd defo get one as well if it got released.
I'm happy I did not buy this. Crap design on top of crap sound - I know they don't count on anyone actually playing these things, but I actually do play vinyl. In fact, sometimes because I think it sounds better than the alternatives. That they can't get that right, well...
Got mine yesterday finally. Probably get played once 😂just another thing to add to the collection I guess. Hope it's stayed top 15 in the charts tonight mind

Check the thread. People have described it as having crap sound, which doesn't surprise me as it's what often happen with these cash-in releases. :arrr:

That’s good another week in top 20 I am pleased with that. Shame they didn’t maximise it with a release during the tour so they could have had another week in the top 10!

I had a go at designing what I would have liked the Greatest Hits vinyl to look like! Basically something that complemented the CD release.

I would have had the release as a 2xLP, in white coloured vinyl, in Gatefold packaging.

Front Cover

Simply the CD artwork!

Perhaps it could have a hype sticker on it that is similar to the

one used on the picture disc, if the record label wanted an image

of the girls to be shown on the front of the release.

Back Cover & Spine

I actually like the back cover of the picture disc, so I decided to use

it for this. I just edited the track list, to reflect that it's spread across two discs.

Gatefold Inlay

This would be what you see when you open up the gatefold

packaging. I'm not a huge fan of this collage tbh, it's pretty lazily designed,

but I'm no graphic designer so I couldn't do anything better. I suppose at

least it would be in keeping with the Greatest Hits CD to use the same collage!

I scanned the pages from both the Greatest Hits CD & the Karaoke CD

to get the lyrics, thanks yous, credits etc. If this was for a real release, then I would

have liked different backgrounds behind the lyrics than what was used in the CD sleeve, so it

wouldn't just look like 9 squares put together. To redesign this myself would have been

way too time consuming though!

The grey square at the top is the full Stop lyrics from the Karaoke booklet. The purple square

is from the Greatest Hits CD and has some of Stop's lyrics on that, plus Viva Forever & Let Love Lead

the Way. It was too complicated to try and edit out the Stop lyrics, but if I knew how to do that then

the purple square would just be Viva Forever & Let Love Lead the Way lyrics.

Vinyl 1 Side A

I thought it would look nice to use the Spice Ring from the back cover on the vinyl discs as well!

The time length of each side:

Vinyl 1 Side A: [14 minutes 34 seconds]

A1. Wannabe

A2. Say You'll Be There

A3. 2 Become 1

A4. Mama

Vinyl 1 Side B: [13 minutes 16 seconds]

B1. Who Do You Think You Are

B2. Move Over

B3. Spice Up Your Life

B4. Too Much

Vinyl 2 Side C: [11 minutes 55 seconds]

C1. Stop

C2. Viva Forever

C3. Let Love Lead the Way

Vinyl 2 Side D: [15 minutes 01 seconds]

D1. Holler

D2. Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)

D3. Voodoo

D4. Goodbye

One side of vinyl having 18 or less minutes on it is ideal, and will result in excellent sound quality - so spreading their hits across two discs would really have given the songs room to breathe. I'm still disappointed at their label deciding to cram 27/28 minutes of music on each side of one picture disc. :( Even on normal vinyl that amount of music on one disc would have still compromised some of the quality, but nevertheless would have sounded better than on picture disc.

As far as I'm concerned a picture disc is primarily for display purposes and not something to bother playing. In my opinion I don't find the Greatest Hits picture disc very visually appealing unfortunately.

If the label insisted on picture disc, I would have preferred it to look like this (I posted a similar mock up a few months ago):

I think using the Greatest Hits era logo & having the full picture printed on the disc would have been a better choice! At least it would seem more in keeping with the CD. I'm not keen on the cropped out feet on the actual picture disc. Having their shoes printed on the sleeve instead was a tacky choice imo.

Love the design, Jay.

I always assumed like most vinyl releases it would be the same as the CD version.

I really hope the GH has another week on the charts - top 10 would be a dream. The album deserved the #1 spot too

No sign of the greatest hits here on the Irish chart this week but thankfully the tour helped it get a new peak here a few weeks ago.
I kinda like the vinyl is different to the CD. A vinyl that basically copied the CD design would be a bit boring. Though I do love the GH CD cover, so maybe a plain black vinyl with the original cover might be nice too.

Thank you! I guess the label wouldn't go to the effort of making a different version in the future, but I wish they would

I hope the Greatest Hits streaming settles at picking up at least 600-700 units a week and that the vinyl continues to sell for a while to come, even if it's ~200 a week or something. Greatest Hits needs to manage 800+ units a week to continue being Top 200. It's only 18 weeks away from matching Spiceworld's stay in the Top 200!

I'll be interested to see if the label keeps the vinyl in print for a long time or not!

His posts are always a joy to read. He has contributed to the Spice Community so much through the years. ^_^

The vinyl made number 1 on the Australian vinyl chart. Not sure how many other vinyl charts from other countries there are but worth checking them.
