'Little Things' tho

(o I am a troll)

The performance of 'Night Changes' just goes to show that if you can get about a billion promo opportunities, you can FORCE a song to be a big hit when it otherwise looks like it's not going to be one :magic: (I say this as someone who really likes the song and is pleased to see it doing well, not really a criticism, just a comment).

Could well be as the airplay is peaking at exactly the right time - it's been played 5 times a day this week on radio 1. The gift card effect could be good too. It's actually a decent song!0

I think whilst you can force a song to be a big hit, you can't force people to like it - the promo will get it out there to more people but they'll still have to decide whether they like it (0I know you're not stating otherwise but it's just a thought that occurred to me!).

 That's a bit of an iffy one anyway, it depends on your stance. It had the build-up of a pre-album single (airplay building up, video release beforehand, promo focused around the impact date) yet got released with the album (on the Monday too!) so technically didn't come before the album (or after it, it came with it, lol).

I don't really like 1D...but Night Changes is very very good. Pleased it's doing well for them
Wow, that lead for 'Uptown Funk'. :o (I mean I would have expected it upon it's intended release date, but with its release pulled over a month ahead... UNBELIEVABLE). As much as I'd love it to make #1, this won't be its last chance, but it probably will be 'Last All Night (Koala)''s. :(

That's not even going to make the top 3 anyway, though.

Shhh, I haven't looked at the mids properly yet haha. :P

Of course, it just seems that the song has been struggling a bit besides its promotion boosts - I guess this is probably down to it being too soon after 'Steal My Girl' so that's still overshadowing it and possibly getting more airplay etc. I think they should have released 'Steal My Girl' a fair bit earlier so they could go into the promo for 'Night Changes' without any distractions, it could easily have been a #1 hit by now. They're just lucky to be in the position to be able to force attention to be diverted a bit to the new song, any other act trying this strategy would have ended up with a big flop. If that makes sense.

Same is sort of true for Olly Murs I guess who is moving onto 'Up' far too quickly, but without any promo for that it's doing very little so far - the XF final performance should hopefully be a springboard for it though.

Yeh that's true the first new single for 1D is usually released in September rather than Oct.

The airplay is def divided at the moment with Capital most likely still hammering Steal my girl (and fair enough it is still top 10) whilst radio 1 have played Night Changes at least 5 times a day this week.

I've seen people over the internet post the Drumsound and Baseline Smith One in A Million song which was out in April 2013 that had Fleur from X Factor feature on it.

When I played it sounded familiar. Did Radio 1 playlist it? As I can't think of where else I would remember it from.

Indeed, I posted it on page 2 of this very topic as well!

I've just looked back and it seems that Radio 1 did playlist it, it reached the B-list before being removed.

^^

Thanks. I knew I heard it before and I had a feeling it was Radio 1!
