Interesting that "Heroes (We Could Be)" was #6 on downloads and not even T100 on streams yet managed a combined position of #6. Clearly quite a mismatch this week between sales of Christmas songs and their streams (as we pretty much expected I guess).

The Christmas #1 continues a stretch back to 2011 (and 2009) of not surviving the week after Christmas, after pretty much being guaranteed a default extra week at the top in the past.

I've beginning to notice this as well. I'm hoping next year we have #1s staying a bit longer, streaming sales should settle down a bit. At least Mark Ronson should get at least 4 weeks at #1 now, unless something else crawls out of the woodwork. And the Voice starts pretty soon :drama:

The Script's album has had an incredibly consistent run over the last couple of months!

We've seemed to have had a few good recoveries from #1 albums that dropped a lot from the top spot: see Ella Henderson, Olly Murs, Take That, Kasabian. I suspect Ben Howard will recover well during January/February too.

Hoping alt-J's album can recover a bit more as well (it's held up well in the last couple of months but stabilising around the 60s and 70s isn't exactly IDEAL, would like to see it at least making its way back into the top 40 for a bit).

But yes it does seem the only truly doomed #1 album we had this year was You Me At Six's (and even that did re-enter the top 100 a couple of times after its initial 1-10-33-43-59-73-x chart run, albeit one of those times being a rather underwhelming re-release). Bruce Springsteen could be categorised as 'truly doomed' as well maybe but he's had more than enough success in the past to make up for that, it's amazing he can even still get easy #1 albums in 2014 :P

Well yeah, my point was more about it being between #15 and #18 for the last 10 weeks (bar one) but that's true too!

I think they could if they get a discount - the indie acts usually receive the best boosts in the January period so perhaps Bombay Bicycle Club could also join them.

Yeah, not done too badly for #1 albums this year! A fair bit better than last year and a damn sight better than 2012 with the likes of Paul Weller, Marina and the Diamonds, Newton Faulkner, Elton John and Conor Maynard really bombing down the charts! :P

Oh I know, it was just something I noticed! :P But yeah, The Script's chart run is like the album chart's version of 'Stay With Me' for hovering around the Top 20 weeks on end!

It kind of baffles me how The Script still sell so many albums, at this stage how many people could possibly want an album of the same song again and again (effectively)?

Plus they're also not very good, but that's entirely subjective.
