Madonna SHOULD be a clear #1 this week, she may be done as a major force in the singles chart but she still has her fans so a new album should still manage a decent tally. Not much else of note out this week. Rebecca Ferguson might be top 10 but this era has been pretty silent for her.

 

'Chasing Yesterday' has become the first new artist album of the year to actually spend a full week at #1 on iTunes.

51 hours before release isn't great for Madge is it? She's on Wossy on Saturday so maybe sell well over 2 weeks instead of one.

 

James Bay could beat Noël Gallagher in a couple of weeks for the fastest seller of the year as he seems to have constantly been top 100 this whole year. Should break 100k!

Admittedly, Madonna's album does seem low in comparison to where the #1 albums of this year were on their last day of pre-order, but the success of all the instant grats and her performance on Amazon seems to indicate she'll do fine.
Really surprised Madonna didn't go straight into the top 10, considering she spent a long time on pre-orders, weeks in the top 100, and all her instant grats entered really high.
Pre orders aren't included on the iTunes chart anymore, that's why Mage is so low I expect.

It's worth noting that, in Madonna's case, the super deluxe edition, which a lot of people will be buying, isn't available on iTunes. As previously stated because of this her physical sales will be much stronger.

Basically, any pre-orders will show like normal, but when an album is released, normally all of its pre-orders get lumped onto the feed at once and lead to it shooting up the iTunes chart. Now, the pre-orders won't be lumped on at midnight on Monday, but will still show in the feed before then. Hope that explains things ~

It kind of makes sense, because it means before (and with singles) the iTunes impact would count twice, once when it's pre-ordered, and then again when they log into iTunes and download their pre-order.

 

Albums should jump up a little at midnight because the number of people buying an entire album will generally be greater than people pre-ordering, but it'll be a much slower climb from now on.

 

It also makes the album charts more exciting and unpredictable, because some artists that may not seem as popular on day of release may have made much bigger amounts of pre-order sales, and we won't even know.

Which makes her #2 for artist albums.

Actually I think Froot is fine where it is. I'm fully confident it will go top 5 next week officially even if it only gets to about #8ish on iTunes due to the new rules.

I hoped that the album would be higher by now, although that with this FROOT of the month thing, I've preordered mine in October already.

Hopefully a lot of people did :)
