January 30, 201510 yr caught the last half-hour, seemed fairly true-to-life in character motivation and dialgue good..
January 30, 201510 yr Comparing the first episode of Cucumber to Banana, I thought Banana was more entertaining out of the two. The ending of the first episode of Cucumber was quite unexpected though for me!
January 31, 201510 yr That second episode of Banana was absolutely amazing - it's definitely the better of the two. Cucumber was much better this time around, but there were still parts that were a bit awkward to watch. Freddie though, omg. *.*
January 31, 201510 yr I just feel like this show thinks it's a lot better than it actually is and the two main leads as well as the two young gays in the warehouse are so unlikeable to the point of "god I don't care". I think that's enough for me now. Queer As Folk it is not!
February 1, 201510 yr A lot of Cucumber just doesn't ring true. The monologues are definitely a poor part of this show. If I knew someone who spent the best part of three minutes talking about themselves as being a masturbation fantasy, I'd think they were a self-absorbed idiot, not in the least bit desirable. :o It's a show with so many weak elements, but like Lex says, it carries itself like it's better than it actually is. Banana won again. A bit bizarre, but somehow it worked.
February 3, 201510 yr My biggest problem with this show is that I cannot identify myself or really any of my gay friends or family to it.
February 3, 201510 yr I watched the first episode of Banana, it's decent enough but nothing amazing. I'll watch the second episode and then try the others. That scene at the dinner table in the first episode is the most hilarious thing I've seen in ages though, I actually almost pissed myself.
February 3, 201510 yr Still need to catch up on these but the responses I've seen aren't giving me much motivation to
February 6, 201510 yr Tonight's Cucumber was really good. It seems to be growing past its teething issues.
February 6, 201510 yr Yeah I agree, Cucumber was really good tonight! The scenes with Ceallach Spellman in particular :kink: The story was actually decent too, was nice to move the focus onto Freddie more with less of this whole plagiarism thing. Banana was poorer than the previous two episodes though, I thought. The characters were likeable enough, but it was a bit all over the place and there wasn't much going on besides showing us a couple getting together, having some fun, a bit of an argument then getting back together at the end.
February 6, 201510 yr Yeah Banana didn't stand out as much as the previous two episodes. It was inoffensive though, I didn't mind it at all.
February 12, 201510 yr Banana was exceptional tonight! :o It was very much like watching an episode of Black Mirror, but more direct and to the point. Very chilling story, would warmly welcome more of those if they're going to explore darker themes~ Can't say Cucumber was anywhere near as good as last week though :( I'm starting to get bored of watching Lance / Henry and their respective lovers.
February 13, 201510 yr Oh my god. Cucumber was TERRIBLE last night. A show with only 8 episodes shouldn't have to show such filler. Banana was very good though.
February 13, 201510 yr Is it just me though or did Rufus Hound appearing make it seem 100x worse than it actually was? :kink:
February 26, 201510 yr Wasn't expecting that to happen at all, but the majority of the episode was incredibly shit unfortunately.
February 27, 201510 yr I quite enjoyed the flashbacks to his younger life, although I do love a good 80s/90s flashback. For the most part I can't stand any of the characters, Lance included, but looking back at his life ended up making me feel more sad about that character's death than I would have been otherwise. I felt his storyline was building up to something awful, but perhaps not as horrifying as that. The man he fancied (I forget his name) was increasingly showing signs of disturbing behaviour. For the first time in this show's run I'm eager to see the next episode.
February 27, 201510 yr Going by the synopses and next time trailer for next week's episode though it looks like there'll be next to no acknowledgement? (re. Henry anyway) I'm definitely preferring Banana right now, it's been on form every week (Sue Perkins' episode aside) and keeps getting stronger. I just wish Henry's nephew Adam would get his own story in it though and come out as gay. :kink:
