'Self Inflicted' is the only one from the first era that I think could have been any kind of hit. As much as I adore 'Lost' and 'I'm Still Breathing', they would NOT have been hits I don't think.

From the 'Teenage Dream' era I think the biggest missed opportunity would have been 'Hummingbird Heartbeat', although that might have been a little bit to twee for a proper, full release. My favourites got released so I'm really content and happy with what were singles and what weren't. I love 'Pearl' to bits, but would that have been a hit? I dunno.

From 'Prism' most definitely the missed opportunity was/is 'Walking On Air' without a shadow of a doubt. Even if you don't think much of the song, you cannot deny it would have been a massive hit. But I just think the singles order needed a bit of rejigging. I perhaps would have gone:

01. 'Roar'

02. 'Dark Horse'

03. 'Walking On Air'

04. 'Unconditionally'

05. 'Dark Horse'

06. 'This Is How We Do'/'Birthday' (one or the other - probs the latter as it was a bigger radio smash)

But nothing else stands out as big hits from the album for me. It's such a good album, but in terms of hit singles I'm struggling to think of anything that would have made an impact, other than WOA.

Only Jonjo would release Dark Horse twice

Re-release of (what would have been) a top 2 smash would have been ideal tbh. :drink:

OMG. :( I knew something didn't add up!

TIHWD as the 5th single with 'Birthday' as the final single from the album.

I do like 'This Is How e Do', but it was very much an album track I think. I even preferred it before when it was just an album track.

But to be fair, it was single #5 and she in general wasn't having the same impact as the previous era 4 years previously so it's not as if it was ever gonna set the world on fire...

Walking On Air and Legendary Lovers should have been singles instead of Dark Horse or Roar and Birthday

One of the Boys

01. 'I Kissed a Girl'

02. 'Hot n Cold'

03. 'Thinking of You'

04. 'If You Can Afford Me'

05. 'Waking Up in Vegas'

Prism

01. 'Roar'

02. 'Dark Horse'

03. 'Unconditionally'

04. 'Walking on Air'

05. 'This Is How We Do'

06. 'International Smile' [Remix feat. Pitbull]

She's handled it all pretty perfectly, except by releasing Screech :puke:

But this album campaign probably needed WoA AND LL to have full max #k-k-k-kawaii Releasing BTGOG and TIHWD wasn't great...

'Dark Horse' and 'Roar' are two of her biggest hits ever, so I don't get the logic in replacing them as singles  Even if you don't like them yourself, it's a bit of a silly thing to say they wouldn't make good singles when they were huge smashes.
TIHWD is my favorite single by Katy. 👌

Birthday and This Is How We Do are both awful. I don't know why they were released on Walking on Air and Legendary Lovers were sitting on the album.

The problem with Unconditionally was that Dark Horse was taking off in the USA and it wasn't distinctive enough to be release so early in the campaign. The single releases should have been: Roar - Dark Horse - Legendary Lovers - Walking on Air - Unconditionally - International Smile with Nicki Minaj single mix.

I know that I've posted on this topic already but here's mine opinion on the PRISM era =

Roar

Definitely the correct choice as the lead single, it really built up the hype and overshadowed Lady Gaga's comeback "Applause" which was released around the same time. A mammoth and well deserved success and did everything that it was supposed to.

Unconditionally

I know this didn't do very well, but I don't think that it was a bad choice in anyway even though it underperformed, it was overshadowed by "Roar" and the problem was it was released too soon, coming out just 2 months after "Roar". Personally it should have been pushed back a bit until November or December maybe to give it a bit more of a chance. It may not have made a difference, but just goes to show that she can't get it right everytime and it performed about as well as can be expected.

Dark Horse

Again spot on and came out at just the right time, just when "Roar" was dying down and again gave her another massive hit.

Walking On Air

I may sound like I'm agreeing with everyone on this, but it would have been spot on for the 4th single in April 2013, it performed well as a promo single and would have definitely been a bigger hit than "Birthday". But honestly I don't think it would have been as big as people think, well not on the level of "Roar" or "Dark Horse", but in my opinion a top 10 placing in the USA and same for the UK or possibly top 20.

Birthday

Released way too soon in my opinion and would have been better suited as the 5th single, okay It wouldn't have performed any better than it did, but after the massive success's of the previous singles bar Unconditionally, then It would have been a decent choice as I do actually like the song when I first heard the album, but honestly the video lets it down, I just didn't like it. In my opinion I would have had a Marie Antoinette themed video with corsets and 17th century costumes, with people eating cake and having a food fight.

Legendary Lovers

I was torn between this and "By The Grace Of God", but opted for this as this had a lot more potential with a November release and the rumoured remix with Drake could have actually happened and this could have performed quite well, in it's original form it would have probably fared the same as "This Is How We Do", but if the Drake thing happened and along with a colourful adventureous music video, it could have breathed new life into the song and could have possibly smashed. Also would have been the perfect ending to this era.

Birthday shade is just not OK, what a jam. My body gets excited when I hear it on the radio, makes me want to mooooove.
Is she releasing By The Grace Of God? She's uploaded it to her vevo account as an audio.

ALSO!

'One Of The Boys' should have been the third single from her debut (which is her best album), it's her best song, imo.

so much right with this post

The best part of Prism is the first half and had she released all the good songs - WOA, LL and IS then every single song would have come from the first half of the album and I think maaybe she wanted to prove the critics wrong aboot that and release the worst ones from the second haf.

But Prism is like 1984 - the first half is SO much better than the second. She should have stuck with it.

The first three singles were perfect. We seem to forget Unconditionally was meant to sell the album over Xmas - which it did, much better than Dark Horse or LL or WOA would've done. And because it lead to Dark Horse which was also huge, it was a perfect combo of singles as they did work. It's after DH that things went pear-shaped. She should've followed it with WOA. It wouldn't have done too well, maybe top 10, but kept momentum, and then released LL and continued the DH theme maybe and got another top 3 hit like E.T and possible no.1 in America. Then she could've gone for Birthday or IS and then left the album at that.

Okay so I have given Prism a full listen again. Somehow I missed out on 'Legendary Lovers'! Really such an amazing song, how did this not get the single treatment after 'DH'! It would have EASILY been a top ten hit for her in the USA, possibly number one!

Best thing she has done since her debut album! It's easily in my top 3 Katy tracks after only a couple listens! Beautiful, haunting and the lalalala's in the chorus really just push it over the top!

Prism singles should have gone:

1. Roar

2. Dark Horse

3. Legendary Lovers

4. Walking On Air (this would put it smack dab in the middle of Summer, aka perfect)

5. Unconditionally

6. This Is How We Do

Whoever handled the single decisions for this era must be related to the guy who made the final track listing for 'Circus'. -_-

If You Can Afford Me, Himmingbird Heartbeat, Peacock (just for fun), Circle The Drain could have been good too, Walking On Air obviously, Legandary Lovers and International Smile.
