I would hope that the people who get to 50 entries would have enough respect for the contest by that time to not take the piss with it. If I were planning it, and I'm not sure I would take advantage of this rule, I would go for an artist who is a particular favourite of mine, but not particularly a fave of many other people, with something I wouldn't normally consider for entering because too many people know the artist name.

 

So I would use it as a chance to send Nightwish (again, and they would be my most likely option, with an album track that I have not whored out to anyone), or Lights, or Lindsey Stirling. Or something like that.

 

I don't think well-known album tracks would necessarily clear rank for this, remember it has to be applied for 2 contests in advance and given you have to justify why the artist is significant to you, I guess you should also justify why this album track or B-Side would be a discovery for people. Silas' example of a B-Side above sounds acceptable to me, Dance In The Dark does not.

2 years till I can use a Beatles track then. Or Abba. Or Pet Shop Boys. I'm pretty obsessive about all 3. :lol:

Wouldn't a special widget be a more appropriate way to mark these BJSC country anniversaries without potentially compromising the integrity of the competition ~ also they could be added retrospectively to old skool competitors so they don't miss out!

The anniversary thing was supposed to be a nice thing that would allow you to mark a big contest with a song by an artist that means a lot to you. It shows commitment to BJSC to reach an anniversary so it's our way of saying a little thanks for participating.

 

There are quite a number of nations due to hit 50 contests between now and Ashton/FSR Rontvia/Kylienips hitting 100. We do not believe that it is an unfair advantage to enter a random album track. I have entered three non-singles by the Sugababes over the past 72 contests and two singles. Both singles (BJSC 1 and 5) came top 10. The non-singles were nowhere near as successful and one DNQd in the 10th contest. Most recently, for my 50th contest, I entered Spiral. A wonderful track that isn't even on a Sugababes album at all, nor is it even a B-side, as it was vocals they provided on a William Orbit album. It was a discovery to most of the Sugababes fans entering. THAT is the type of song we are aiming at. It finished 28/30 (my lowest ever placing in a final with SFs)and barely made it out of the SF. That is hardly an advantage now is it?

 

If it does not work, or a 'Hunters And The Wolves' situation happens every time, then we will remove it. (Hunters And The Wolves would have been ineligible under the Anniversary exemption as it is from the current era, at time of entry.)

 

 

For now, it stays while we try it out.

• Is a straight cover of a previous BJSC entry.
• Has charted in the UK Top20.
• Has presence on all of the trifecta. (Scandipop, Popjustice and Pitchfork)
• Is a former ESC entry.
• Is currently in a national final for ESC selection.
• Is a previous BJSC entry.

Just for clarity while I try not to pick something cheapasfuq - does 'Is' and 'Has' refer to both the artist and the song, the artist alone or the song alone?

If I understand the rules correctly it's for landmark numbers of entries, you haven't entered every contest since your debut so not quite. By my count you're 3 contests away from your 50th entry though :P

If Eva was only featured a little bit, like Amy Winehouse is in Mutya's B Boy Baby then probably would overlook the points the featured artist brings. If Eva was more like Rita Ora in Black Widow then it'd be full points.
