September 17, 200618 yr for now we'll just have to face the fact that we no longer control the charts. its terrible but there is no point in deleting chasing cars. pink and the feeling have both recently had 2 songs in the top 40, neitherhas been deleted ro are halting sales for both album and new single.
September 17, 200618 yr Author i dunno...i read somewhere the rules maybe chagned to 1. include video downloads (OMG: DONT GET ME STARTED) and that songs won't have to be available physically to be elligible for the chart.
September 17, 200618 yr Author so it means, if a tv programme season starts again...say the oc, phantom planet california can effectively "climb" back into the top 40. if someone covers a classic, and people are raving about the classic, both the original hit and the new version can chart at the same time and the worst is at xmas. We might be forced into top tens with Slade for infinity and beyond if this rule is put in place.
September 17, 200618 yr Here is a list of songs that would currently be in the top 75 were it not for the fact that they have either been deleted or (*) are more than 52 weeks old: Top 40 LDN - Lily Allen (original version was released before Smile and deleted, selling solely on downloads) Maneater - Nelly Furtado Monster - Automatic Top 75 *Numb/Encore - Jay-Z/Linkin Park Crazy - Gnarls Barkley No Tomorrow - Orson *Iris - Goo Goo Dolls *Bring Me To Life - Evanescence *Somebody Told Me - Killers *All These Things That I've Done - Killers *In The End - Linkin Park If we ignore the songs over 52 weeks (those with a *, all of which are selling purely on downloads) SOS by Rihanna would still be in the top 75.
September 17, 200618 yr yeh...that is stupid, they could just stop supplying adn "pretend to delete" and see it drop a little. doesn't every album dowload of theirs results in a sale for chasing cars, or is that not how it is done? downloads of entire albums count only towards the album chart. Downloads of individual tracks count towards the download chart and also the combined singles chart if there is a chart eligible track (eg Chasing Cars).

It's a more acurate reflection of which songs are popular with people after all. The OCC really get on my nerves with making up all these stupid "52 weeks then starred out/if deleted starred out after 2 weeks/has to be physically available the week after" rules.
September 17, 200618 yr I think deleting singles is a really dopey idea, but it's more to do with the OCC and their stupid rules. If a song is still selling then it should be reflected on the chart. It just makes things look really inaccurate. Look at Snow Patrol. The chart run of You're All I Have is 21 weeks on the chart and counting, while Chasing Cars will only get 10 weeks on the chart at most despite being a much bigger hit. The same thing is true with Gnarls Barkley- Crazy only got 11 weeks on the chart because of deletion and was still in the top ten, while Smiley Faces is on 9 weeks now and is just leaving the top 40. Don't get me started on Nelly Furtado only getting 9 weeks on the chart for Maneater despite being at number one for 3 of those weeks. well it seems that Polydor/Universal are the ones who's doing it the most (if Gnarls was actually their idea to get rid of it??) think they wanna increase album sale and this is the way they are gonna do do.
September 17, 200618 yr I can understand why Gnarls Barkley and Nelly Furtado were deleted as their albums were falling down the charts like stones and would have dropped out of the top 75 before long... but why delete 'Chasing Cars'? The album is doing brilliantly.
September 17, 200618 yr If we ignore the songs over 52 weeks (those with a *, all of which are selling purely on downloads) SOS by Rihanna would still be in the top 75. No it wouldn't - it was made ineligible due to the 'chart single cannot be a B-side to a subsequent single whilst still in the top 40' rule.
September 17, 200618 yr No it wouldn't - it was made ineligible due to the 'chart single cannot be a B-side to a subsequent single whilst still in the top 40' rule. ah yeah, forgot about that! So that record would have been deleted and removed from the chart under the old deletion rules anyway, assuming the label had asked in time (and we didn't end up with a Daniel Powter situation).
September 18, 200618 yr And just to clear it up, if SOS hadn't been deleted or removed, Unfaithful would not have qualified for the chart until SOS left the top 40.
September 18, 200618 yr And just to clear it up, if SOS hadn't been deleted or removed, Unfaithful would not have qualified for the chart until SOS left the top 40. and if that was the case then SOS would still be eligible. More likely, the label would not have included SOS on the follow-up had it still been the old chart rules - very few labels asked for a song to be removed from the charts following deletion, even though the rules have allowed this back to 1991. September 20, 200618 yr i dont think the singles should be deleted,if people stillwant the song and want to buy it it should still be sold, the snow patrol is really annoying me as they havnt had any huge selling single, chasing cars has been selling consistantly for weeks now and has just passed the 100,000 sales mark lately which is the first single of theres to do so and it could well go on to sell at least another 100,000. if record companies do it as a ploy to buy the album it could backfore as people may download legally or illegally instead, not everyone will buy an album just because they cant get the single. the snow patrol album sales hugly benefited from chasing cars so it should be left alone, nelly furtado, gnarls barkey and rihanna singles are also singles i didny think should have been deleted and again i think the same as i do about snow patrol on these also.
