I think you mean in 2012 they were?

In 2008 Usher had 'Love In This Club', Flo Rida had 'Low' and 'Elevator' etc...

They are dance-pop songs tbh, also songs like Forever and Closer are dance-pop songs from R&B artists.

2008 was at the start of the trend, it was dying out by 2012 anyway (although an easy way to get a hit).

I really don't agree they are, at all. 'Closer' and 'Forever' though, yeah.

Definitely just read that as 'Theo Paphitis' my brain is fried.

Very strong start then from Kanye! Just a bit annoying that it wasn't released on a Sunday of course but what can ya do.

I agree with you too. Low seems like it's somewhere in-between dance-pop and hip hop/crunk imo, probably why it was such a big crossover hit.

Love In This Club is an R&B song with loads of synths imo (there were loads of songs like that around that time like Ne-Yo - Bust It Baby Part II, Ray J - Sexy Can I, T.I. - Whatever You Like, Sean Kingston - Take You There, etc.). They were very electronic/synth-heavy, but didn't have the 4/4 dance beats like Closer, Forever, SOS, etc. These kind of songs, along with most of Timbaland's hits and the crunk hits seem like they bridged the gap between R&B/hip hop which dominated before and the full-fledged dance-pop which ended up dominating afterwards.

I'm wondering where mainstream music is going to head next, since I feel like the house trend is dying down, and the retro funk/R&B/disco trend surely can't last much longer either, after so many million sellers people must get tired soon. I don't think dance-pop will make a comeback yet since it's only been a couple of years since it faded out.

Impressive start for Kanye! :D

Ha I also had a double take at Theophilus!

Did this Kanye West song have any pre-orders?

Nope, which makes it's shooting straight into the T10 even more impressive. I'm glad they chose to release it any case, I thought we were going to have to hold out until the album for a HQ version.

Wow that is crazy! it's not like it's the weekend or after work/school hours either :o

Is Kanye just having a joint album with Paul McCartney? Didn't realise he was on 'All Day' too
Has Paul McCartney really contributed to "All Day"? :o

Wow that is amazing for Kanye! Hoping it has a chance of outpeaking 'Only One' now :o

Paul McCartney's contribution to 'All Day' is the outro which was left out at the BRITs - he actually sings on it this time!
