Good to see 'Untouchable' at no.139. I think there will be two more Rolloland songs to come, one of which will be very high up so I will be keeping an eye on your countdown.

Glad to hear it Rollo *.* <3 your suspicions may or may not prove to be correct x

I'm going to be with Bray until Saturday now so the next part may not be here until the weekend oops, but it shall be another long'un when it arrives ofc ~

Yaaaaas Attitudeproblem! That's a whole chunk of the reasons why I love it too. It's got such an attitude to it that's just infectious
Yess, glad to see you loved Genesis, got another instrumental (sort of) lined up for 101 that i’ll think you’ll probably like, it features strings at any road. Would guess at Gypsy and Heaven being the other two songs on your list but whynspoil the surprise!

I'm glad that 'Attitudeproblem' allowed me to point you again after a bit of a drought since 2015. It's cool that our feelings on the song are similar, up with attitude-ridden Ashton *.*

Yesss it was such a wonderful piece of trance, that A State Of Trance YouTube channel that it's from is usually so good and this was no exception *.* Ooh an instrumental with strings again?! Count me in :o I actually have one of those lined up too but not until 102 so we shall not quite clash in sound next month! 2018 to be the year of those in the contest tbh. Very good guesses there but will you be right? Find out soon... :o (being cryptic is apparently my thing right now, but it only feels appropriate)

TBO REJECTS 2017

We are proud to present our solitary entry to BJSC's annual Rejects competition...

SOLDOUT feat. GOOSE - 'Do It Again'

'Do It Again' had a lot of hype surrounding it back in February for BJSC 92. In fact, one set of odds placed us at 8/1 just ahead of eventual TBO winner 'Saving Light', which seems pretty crazy in retrospect! Alas, we ended up as a shock DNQ as SOLDOUT bowed out in 23rd place with 41 points in its semi-final. The Belgian group previously saw success for us when they won the first edition of Worldvision. They also scooped an Unknown Pleasures crown for PeteFromLeeds. So... will a third win be in their sights for Rejects, with the help of GOOSE? They face tough competition, that's for sure. Please support 'Do It Again' as the nomination round is now open in Taahino! We previously advanced in 2015 with Stranger Cat's 'Unzip Your Skin' but failed to have any representation last year.

An actual top 90 smash, when will ur faves

Yasssshesi etc.

(EOY countdown should be recommencing tomorrow I think. I suspect the bulk of it will be done in January oops, am just so busy at the moment D:)

Right I shall definitely try and continue with my EOY at last tomorrow, have been busy for the past 8 days, but sadly back to reality now!

90. Mondo Grosso - Labyrinth (Flynnonda)

89. Achillea - Ragnarok - Twilight Of The Gods (Persephonia)

88. Pepe Deluxé - A Night And A Day (Trifoski)

87. Gyptian - All On Me (Diztortion Remix) (feat. Lady Leshurr) (St. Burbia)

86. Man Without Country - Laws Of Motion (feat. White Sea) (Altyr Muunilinst)

85. ERIA - Ochi (New Lexico)

84. IAMX - I Come With Knives (Yehesi)

83. The Clarstone - Fandango (feat. Lola Torres) (Cadelicia)

82. Ramin Djawadi - Light Of The Seven (Altyr Muunilinst)

81. Solarstone with Giuseppe Ottaviani - Falcons (Deandria)

We begin this next section with a pair of DNQs. First up it's Flynnonda with the enchanting beauty 'Labyrinth' by Mondo Grosso. Grosso is a Japanese DJ whose real name is actually Shinichi Osawa. He has teamed up with fellow Japanese artist Hikari Mitsushima who provides both vocals and a starring role in the music video. This pair work wonderfully together as Mondo Grosso provides gorgeous electronic beats and Mitsushima has a light, chilled delivery that allows you to get lost in this stunning and timeless piece of Japanese pop perfection. The video has a pretty calming effect as well as it depicts Mitsushima wandering around Hong Kong, looking so free while singing and dancing (which was apparently choreographed by Jillian Meyers, the assistant choreographer for 'La La Land'!) at nighttime. The video also matches the lyrics pretty well (thanks YouTube for the attempted translated subtitles throughout once again x) as the city she wanders through looks like a maze and she of course alludes to the 'Labyrinth' title by talking about a place with no exit or end. The accompanying album that this is from is Mondo Grosso's first album in 14 years and damn, it must be worth the wait for fans if this song is anything to go by. I am still so shocked that it DNQed but I pray that this will receive justice in Rejects now that it has advanced to the semi-final stage. This foreign language beauty continues to grow on me with every listen and feels a bit too low, if I had compiled my list a bit later then it would be a bit higher now. But hey, a place on here is still good no matter where. This is most definitely Flynnonda's best entry of the year <3 Such a delicate song with an incredible replay-ability factor. Next at #89 we move from one electronic foreign song to another as Persephonia have now ceased their flopping :kink: I was extremely hyped for this one due to the involvement of former Enigma member Jens Gad with the Achillea project and this did not disappoint! As you would expect, this is an ambient offering much like a lot of the Enigma material that I have heard. I adore the downtempo new-age vibes of this! The vocals courtesy of Helene Hørlyck are so pretty, they range from sounding quiet and whispery to her projecting her voice in a more bold and operatic fashion in places. Great switching up from her without any part sounding out of place. The instrumentation is absolutely divine throughout as well and builds perfectly. There is not an official video for this song but YouTube channel ADA D created the one sent in the contest and these visuals of stunning scenery make this even more of a chilled out experience. It is a shame that this fared pretty badly in BJSC 93 but some justice may be in store, as this has also made it to the Rejects semi-finals. Perhaps it was just a grower all along for the masses, but it hit the spot for me pretty quickly. An instant pick-me-up for relaxing.

Time to pick up the pace now with one of many Trifoski appearances. I have just revisited 'A Night And A Day' and it is even better than I had remembered! The song itself boasts some awesome guitar instrumentation that feels pretty thrilling from the word go. The vocals feel soulful and retro, which matches the black and white video perfectly. I often love it when there's a modern twist on a retro feel, but the main examples that come into my head are dance songs, so it's nice to have something a bit different here with a rocky song taking influence from the past. The barmy accompanying vid features a damsel in distress who likes to intensely stare into the camera a lot and a man in a turban dancing while shooting lasers out of his feet. It was a pretty wild ride, but I did pick up from the visuals and the text throughout that it's an homage to early 20th century silent films. A pretty memorable video to say the least! The song is of course an equally magnificent journey itself. Aside from the aforementioned guitar and cool retro vibes, the harmonies here are top notch and help to make the whole thing feel even more exciting. Also, when the song grinds to a halt at around 2:20, to an acapella-type part, I hear Beatles influences! The instrumentation in particular is really reminding me of one of their songs, which might be 'Rain'. Wonderfully eclectic stuff from Trifoski. Next we keep up the fast pace with another song from BJSC 93 that just beat 'A Night And A Day' to my 8 points, courtesy of St. Burbia! A Gyptian and Lady Leshurr team-up was definitely an exciting prospect to me when I first saw that this had been sent! I loved 'Hold Yuh' back in the day when my life revolved around Starz TV music channel, plus Lady Leshurr's 'queen's speech' instalments are nothing short of iconic, where she teaches us valuable life lessons like "Brush Your Teeth" x Anyway, this Diztortion 'All On Me' remix certainly delivered and turned out to be even more of a banger than I was expecting! It's loud, in your face and I'm sure would sound fantastic at at a party. Leshurr's delivery is as infectious as ever here so her inclusion was definitely a good move, her part after the noisy breakdown is my highlight of the song! A very catchy song that is an improvement on the original for sure. Not just for Lady Leshurr, but also for the remixed production, which I imagine might be a bit divisive due to potentially being perceived as rackety, but for me it suits the song so much more and gives it a needed energy boost.

So we have revisited two chilled out songs, then two more action-packed ones, and now it handily falls back to a blissful song again! This is the first of two Altyr Muunilinst entries that are both in this 90-81 section. For a short while, 'Laws of Motion' was a song that sounded extremely pretty while it was on, but I failed to remember much about it while I wasn't actually listening to it. However, with plenty of repeat listens it has now stuck in my brain and I can recall the chorus word-for-word (or at least phonetically in places!!), which has made it even better, yay! This sounds like the kind of Altyr song that we would stan back in 2015, like 'Apart' by Kasper Bjørke. This is because it is synthy, soothing and features absolutely beautiful female vocals leading the way. The male vocals that are introduced partway compliment them well also. This is another ethereal tune that takes me to a calming place, I should really create a relaxing BJSC songs playlist at this rate. So many layers of sound here and also a striking animated music video that feels very nineties in execution. Truly lush. Up next at #85 is the first of two New Lexico entries to appear in my countdown! I have become quite fond of a lot of Ukrainian music in recent times, which I put down to discovering ONUKA back in 2015 and falling in love with everything I heard by them. So, I actually knew this before the contest due to Lex posting about it in the Ukraine Eurovision 2017 thread as a potential song to make their National Final! I am flabbergasted that this enthralling song did not end up making it to the national final at all, Ukraine why you guys sleeping on this?! I naturally cannot understand much of this foreign offering but it certainly impacts me through the powerful delivery and divine electronic production. It is even a bit symphonic. What a build-up. *.* I am gutted that 'Ochi' did not only DNQ in BJSC 92 but has failed to make it to the Rejects semi-finals. Well, at least we appreciate it Lex! <3

So now it is time to unveil the Yehesi entry that was teased... it turns out that it wasn't MUNA after all, as good as 'I Know A Place' is too! In fact it is the striking art-rock (artpop hu) song 'I Come With Knives' that we awarded 6 points to back in BJSC 91, the very first contest of the year! I was aware of IAMX through the gripping Bøtanikkä entry 'Happiness' back in 2015, so I was very excited for more and hoped for something dark and powerful again! Thankfully this is exactly what this is, the passionate screaming is back (this time it comes from the title, I COME WITH KNIIIIIIIVES *.*) and all the general angst that the singer Chris Corner conveys once again makes me want to blast this loud every time. This develops its own identity as it interestingly switches between English and German! The song begins with a female whispery German chant which is just as infectious as the rest of the song. The lyrics of 'I Come With Knives' seemed really fascinating so this lead me to read up on it a bit more and indeed the concept is pretty interesting. The guy is a tortured soul who is explaining that the act of life itself is our very first fight, so he leaves the safety of the womb for the first time against his will, then has no choice but to 'come with knives' to protect himself, even if the real intention is to bring love. So yeah it's pretty dark under it all but even not knowing the meaning you have an absolutely enthralling song on the surface. My only complaint is that the video doesn't feel good enough for the song, after loving the 'Happiness' one! Next we have our 7 pointer from the same contest, 'Fandango' sent by Cadelicia! It is often hard for me to resist songs uploaded on the xKito Music channel and this one was no exception. Who needs 'Despacito' when Cadelicia were clearly on to something way before that trend reared its head tbh. Of course I was going to eat something like this up with my love for all things Español. Here we have a song with deep house vibes and obvious Spanish influences in the production, like the use of the castanets at one point. I must admit that the drop isn't as strong as I would've hoped when the production is strong otherwise, but it's not bad per sé, and Lola Torres truly makes this with her gripping Spanish vocals. Some of the words I managed to pick up sound pretty deep but it becomes more of a feel-good song once the drop comes around each time. Still baffled that this under performed in the final!

It's time for the second and final Altyr Muunilinst song now and it is a long one at that! Ramin Djadwadi composed this chilling piece for season six of the hit TV series Game of Thrones and the rest was history. I of course know of GOT but I haven't actually seen an episode before. Piano music was apparently pretty uncommon for the show prior to this, so I imagine the experience was absolutely enthralling for viewers of the show when they saw the season six finale for the first time. This almost-10 minute epic is a masterclass in instrumental build-up. It is amazing how much precision and effort Djadwadi put into this piece, from the recording of instruments separately to making sure it started off slow and took the listener on a truly tense journey that reaches an extremely satisfying climax. I adore the exquisite use of piano, organ, STRINGS (of course) and another detail that I love is that he uses two choirboys simultaneously singing notes at one point... just so many layers and thought put in. This was deservedly nominated for the 'Film Music Composition Of The Year' category in the International Film Music Critics Association awards. Now last but not least is one of a few from Deandria! I previously knew of Solarstone because of the 'pure edit' of Quintessa's 2015 entry 'Flying' by Silvermine and that was stunning. Here we thankfully have another beauty! This was receiving hype since day 1 and ultimately finished in 11th. I was surprised to see it outside the top 10 while FSR Rontvia's similar sounding song surpassed it in 6th, when this one packs more of a punch for me. But hey, still pretty good. I am a sucker for trance and this one builds in a glorious way, it is mostly instrumental (with choppy vocals) but is another one that feels pretty euphoric and emotional. I particularly love when the solitary "somewhere deep inside we can all fly" line comes around each time and hits us in the feels. The music video of the boy and the falcon also feels really pure. This just makes me feel really good and contains some typical trance features, though as I said for 'Genesis', it's a lush formula that works so this is a terrific combination of compliments.

Omg no longer a flop xx

Achillea has obviously just got to Rejects semis because of a couple of the people who did like it voting lmao but I hope some people will revisit it and like it more in the semis ;o It was a slightly misguided entry / obvious flop in retrospect as much as I still love it.

'Labyrinth' and 'Light Of The Seven' are other highlights there, both too low x

Yas 'Falcons' *.* I agree with a lot of that comment, it's one of the most emotional and euphoric trance tunes I know. And I do also love the 'somewhere deep inside we will fly' bit which, don't take my word for this, but I don't think it's in the Spotify version. I did mention before that the Spotify version is slightly different to the one with the video but it wasn't a significant difference anyway. Also, for the record, I put 'Falcons' last in the list of my entries of 2017 in order of preference, however I've been thinking in the past few days that now I would swap this around with 'Rajka', I do get more enjoyment out of this one and have gone off 'Rajka' just a tad. And yeah the music video is really cute.

Some other choices I approve of as well, especially Mondo Grosso which I was saddened to see DNQ, it had been a potential of mine. Beautiful song, I love the combination of those beats with the dazzling strings. Strings forever, amirite <3

Woo xx

Hmm maybe with the low threshold for qualifying :kink: but idk, it does still sound like a growery type of song for people who aren't obviously into this kind of thing like me, as it's a song that builds which is often a magnet for growers, that's kinda more of what I meant. So yes, new fans plz. Anyway, yay for it reaching Rejects when it was only bottom 3 in the first place. *.* It didn't really sound like an obvious flop to me oops (then again my judgement can be off quite a bit ), deserved more in the first place </3

Light Of The Seven feels about right (too many good songs!!) but yeah Labyrinth should deffo be higher oops, throwing some extra support in Rejects for sure.

That's cool that we're in agreement *.* emotional trance songs tend to hit me really hard, I ended up adoring FSR Rontvia's '7even' in the end for instance, but even so, I was surprised by how much I took to this one when it's more of the production that does the talking <3 Oh does it not, mess, will have to check that! I have just been revisiting these songs on YouTube so that I can see the music videos again too. I approve of you lifting it out of the last place slot anyway when it's in my top 3 of your entries this year

Yay at all of this Mondo Grosso love *.* I guess at least you escaped a DNQ there, although you still DNQed in BJSC 100 so... boo x Yuppp, strings forever <3

Funnily enough I do feel almost exactly the same way about 'Laws of Motion' as well, I could never for the life of me remember how it goes, even during that contest. I just was drawn to it anyway and gave it high points (12 in the final I think). I always remembered it as an electronic song with pretty synths etc but never could grasp how it goes or anything  With a few more listens I could probably recall the chorus phonetically as well haha.

Andra Chansen

The Andra Chasen contest allows us to give forgotten favourites a second chance in the BJSC world. So I decided to award that chance to one of my 18s from 2016 that deserved to smash but didn't quite do so. This is 'Y Ddawns' by Ani Glass which was originally sent by Quintessa! It only finished in 26th back in BJSC 86. No, just no. Let's allow it to smash this time guys! This absolute beauty boasts glorious synths and singing in Welsh, which is pretty rare in general, let alone in this contest! I guess this is a bit of a self-recycle as Ani Saunders is a member of The Pipettes who I sent to the UK Chart: Near Misses spinoff with 'Judy' (albeit not a member of the band when this song was released, but it's still a point of interest nevertheless okay!!) We are kicking off the Andra Chansen contest in slot 1, exciting!

Rejects

A huge thank you to everyone who has voted for SOLDOUT's 'Do It Again' so far in the competition, as our smash-that-never-was has only gone and made it to the final! This marks the second time that we have been in a Rejects final after Stranger Cat's 'Unzip Your Skin' got there back in 2015. Hopefully we can reach the top 20 this time.

BJSC 101

K Á R Y Y N - 'BINARY'

We are back with a bang for a brand new year of BJSC in Aeroche! Our selected entry for the 101st contest is the beautiful 'Binary' by K Á R Y Y N! She is based in the United States but has both Armenian and Syrian heritage, which she touches upon in other songs, particularly 'Aleppo' which seems to be the release from her that has garnered the most attention to date. I became aware of 'Binary' when the wonderful Gods of Spotify had this song ready and waiting for me in my 'Discover Weekly' playlist. It was love at first listen about four months ago and now I am happy to finally unleash it! 'Binary' reminds me of an FKA Twigs song, due to the way her emotive vocals sound and the electronic production. The breakdown thing also reminds me a bit of the backing vocals in 'Ribs' by Lorde, only sped up. Although, unlike that part of 'Ribs', this bit comprises of "1" and "0" being repeated a lot because ya know, 'Binary'. This entry that lasts a little under 5 minutes pulls you in for the entire duration and makes you sit up and listen to every word. We are shocked that K Á R Y Y N still seems to be so unknown because she has a lot of promise judging by what we have heard from her to date. 'Binary' is our 28th entry to the Buzzjack Song Contest so far. We hope you guys like it! If you are in semi-final 1 then please help us qualify to the final! We have been drawn in slot 26 out of 28.

Worldvision III

Samira Said - 'Mazal'

The 101 semi-finals were not the only BJSC-related reveal that took place tonight! The Worldvision III entries were unmasked also in Taahino. My own entry was revealed as 'Mazal' by Samira Said! The 60-year-old songstress is representing us on behalf of Morocco. 'Mazal' is an Arabic dance-pop banger that we hope will inject a bit of fun into the spinoff early on, as we are in slot 3 - the same as in the Rejects final! Our first go at Worldvision was highly successful as SOLDOUT, representing Belgium, won the contest with 'To The Ocean'. However, our second attempt with Epelit, representing Finland, wasn't quite so successful as 'Flippaa & kriippaa' finished in 29th place. We hope the very catchy 'Mazal' can return us to the top 20! Apologies for the music video cutting so abruptly to the credits - the song finishes, then quickly moves on to the credits which are soundtracked by the first minute or so of the song playing again  so it's almost like one-and-a-half listens in one to really lodge it in your brain immediately :kink:

TBO REJECTS X: JUSTICE IS SERVED FOR SOLDOUT!

OjoNxaJ.jpg

So it seems that SOLDOUT are incapable of truly flopping in the end. The Belgian group won both Worldvision and Unknown Pleasures, but had the knockback of DNQing with 'Do It Again' (featuring GOOSE) in BJSC 92... however, they have clawed it back by finishing in 5th place in the Rejects X final, with a points tally of 65! We are chuffed with this result as we were so shocked when this entry originally DNQed. Plus having a top 5 right off the bat is a great way to start off 2018 BJSC results! SOLDOUT were consistent in semi-final one too as they also finished 5th there, with a points haul of 60, just 5 off the final one. This is a marked improvement from the last time we featured in a Rejects final - back in 2015. Stranger Cat didn't quite light up the final with 'Unzip Your Skin' as that finished in 21st. A frustrating position! Thanks to everyone who helped us start the year off with such a strong result, particularly those nations kind enough to award us medal positions! These were Singerpurear who gave us a 12, Aesthetica who gave us a 10, plus Aeroche and Rolloland who both gave us 8 points!

Ultraviolenceland scooped the Rejects title this year with 'Play' by Marmozets, a guitar-heavy Radio 1 fave. They were convincing winners as they still pipped Grace Mitchell to the post even with a deduction factored in! We awarded this song a few points in the semi-final and it was 11th in our final ranking, so we're happy enough with that winner. Our own favourites didn't quite slay the competition as our 1 (Thelonia), 2 (Quintessa) and 3 pointers (South Danaelanda) were the only ones that made it to the top 10. Our top 3 did all finish in the top 20 at least: 'Ptolemy' by Aphex Twin (sent by Ambienta) finished 16th post-deduction, 'Lilith' by Varien (sent by Terra Avium) was 18th and Envio's 'Touched By The Sun [Rusch & Elusive's Chill Out Mix]' (sent by Zanmatony) was 13th post-deduction. So not too bad on the whole, we just noticed that quite a handful of our votes were in the bottom 10! Justice for Meg, Mondo Grosso, VNV Nation and Chicks On Speed. :(

Thanks to these nations who voted for us: Aeroche, Quintessa, Hushkanukia, Niceland, Summericia, Rolloland, Terra Avium, Singerpurear, Aesthetica, Pupok + Taahino

ANDRA CHANSEN: MORE JUSTICE IS SERVED!

AniGlass.jpg

Today the results for celebratory contest 'Andra Chansen' took place in République d'Ashton. We selected Quintessa's gorgeous entry 'Y Ddawns' by Ani Glass, from BJSC 86, as our pick that deserved a second chance in the contest. This choice paid off quite a bit as we finished in 5th place with 81 points! You read that right, we have once again finished in 5th place in a contest that serves to bring justice to under-performing entries... less than a week after SOLDOUT. So 2018 has proven to be pretty damn successful for us so far. Will this continue in the main contest? Only time will tell as we find out if we qualified tomorrow. In the meantime, we are absolutely chuffed with this result as we always felt that this Welsh beauty deserved so much more. We were propped up by quite a few medal positions this time to achieve that top 5 position! We received 12s from Quintessa (of course!) and Terra Avium, plus 10s from Deandria, Persephonia and Pupok!

The good news did not end there however, as our 12 pointer only went and unexpectedly won the whole contest! Terra Avium plucked Cumulonimbia entry 'Spring 1 (Ade Laugee Remix)' by Max Richter out of the archives and introduced it to a whole new audience, including myself who had never heard it before. We are thrilled that a fusion of a Vivaldi classic with bhangra elements captured the ears of the BuzzJack masses and fought off competition from other contenders, in a rollercoaster ride of a results show. A huge congrats to the nation, who had previously never won any form of song contest on BuzzJack. Our 10 pointer was a discovery for us too from our allies Persephonia! They sent the incredibly left-field 'White Chalk' by Halls, originally sent by Fljótavík. This entry, that had a beautiful build-up, finished in 12th place - beating its original position. Finally, our bronze medal was an entry that we actually were familiar with beforehand. Flynnonda chose to send 'You Settle Me' by Pixel Fix which was originally entered by Cor Lupus. We have always rooted for this song and hoped that it would be third time lucky for it, after it underperformed in Rejects also. Early results were looking promising as it started off in second place for a while, but it eventually had to settle for 14th. A top 15 position is of course nothing to sniff at! So we were pleased with the results for all of our absolute favourites this time.

Thank you to the following nations who supported 'Y Ddawns' in Andra Chansen: Persephonia, Deandria, Aesthetica, Séyetana, Unovia, Niceland, Terra Avium, Quintessa, Pupok & Taahino

Back with more once we find out our BJSC 101 fate x

Much more like the result 'Y Ddawns' deserved the first time *.* yay for SOLDOUT getting some redemption as well if not quite giving them a third BuzzJack contest win. x

Absolutely loveee 'BINARY' so Jadakissnia are off to a fab start once more in 2018  v intense~ song.
