November 20, 20186 yr Author Former Manchester City captain Barrie Betts has died aged 86. The Barnsley-born defender started with his hometown club before moving to City via Stockport County. He made 117 appearances for City from 1960 to 1964.
December 19, 20186 yr Author Former Wolves captain Bill Slater has died at the age of 91, after suffering with Alzheimer's disease and illness. Slater won three league titles in the 1950s, the club's most successful period, and also lifted the FA Cup after leading the side to a 3-0 win over Blackburn at Wembley in 1960.
January 13, 20196 yr Author Former South Africa and Leeds United striker Phil Masinga has died aged 49.
February 7, 20196 yr Author Dorset Police have confirmed that the body recovered from a plane in the English Channel as Emilano Sala.
February 11, 20196 yr Author Former Olympic rowing champion Maximilian Reinelt has died aged 30. Reinelt was part of Germany's men's eight that won gold at London 2012 and silver in Rio four years later.
February 11, 20196 yr Author Former Portsmouth and Republic of Ireland midfielder Mick Kennedy has died at the age of 57. Kennedy, who won two caps for Ireland, was part of the Pompey team that won promotion to England's top division in 1987.
February 12, 20196 yr Gordon Banks, one of the greatest goalkeepers the world has ever seen, has died aged 81. He was a key member of England’s World Cup-winning team in 1966. He famously missed the 1970 quarter-final against West Germany, which England lost 3-2, because of food poisoning. One his best saves came from a Pele shot earlier in that tournament.
February 12, 20196 yr Author RIP Gordon Banks, an absolute legend to the game. Banks is the fourth player of the England team that started the 1966 World Cup final to have died, after Bobby Moore, Ray Wilson and Alan Ball. That save from Pele is probably the greatest save I've seen. HNLam4RAbg8
February 12, 20196 yr I'm not quite old enough to have seen him playing for England but I know how good he was. I've seen that save from Pele many times. Think how good it would look if they had slowmo cameras from all angles like they do now. RIP Gordon Banks.

February 12, 20196 yr Author He came 25th in our Buzzjack Ultimate Footballer last year and this was Pete put: Scraping into the second set of results is our second goalie Gordon Banks, who celebrated his 80th birthday last year. He was part of the World Cup winning squad back in 1966, after winning the League Cup with Leicester in 1975. He then moved to Stoke, competing in the next World Cup where he made a save to prevent a Pele goal, and won the League Cup with his team in 1972. Unfortunately his career was abruptly ended by a car crash which resulted in him losing an eye, although his legacy is clearly remembered to this day. March 4, 20196 yr Author Former Rangers and Scotland full-back Eric Caldow has died at the age of 84. Caldow made 407 appearances during a 13-year career at Ibrox, winning five league titles, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups.
