How I compile my charts:

 

With a few exceptions, I don't go out of my way to seek out new songs - I usually wait until I hear them on the radio. I mainly listen to Radio 1 and for this reason, most (though not all) songs in my chart are those which are played on Radio 1. I don't usually add a song to my chart until it's started gaining some airplay.

 

Songs generally tend to climb gradually as they grow on me, peak and then fall fast, so the chart looks similar to an 80s/90s singles chart. I also usually get bored of a song within a few weeks, so songs don't generally tend to hang around the chart for more than a few weeks - typically around 9 or 10 weeks for a Number 1.

 

 

This week's chart commentary:

* In a week of mostly one-word Top 10 hits, Major Lazer & DJ Snake feat. MØ sneak into the Top 10 with 'Lean On', a debut entry on this chart for all three artists involved.

* Catfish & The Bottlemen climb a couple of places to #8 with 'Homesick' to equal the peak of 'Cocoon'; only 'Kathleen' did better, a #2 hit for them last year.

* Kodaline's 'The One' climbs to #2 this week, with only the mighty Madonna stopping them claiming their second ever #1. They could still do it next week, but hot on their heels is Carly Rae Jepsen, who is also looking for her second #1 on this chart.

Big fan of that rhyming red herring of a subtitle! Nice work. :P

 

Just checked out 'The One' as it's intriguing to see it doing so well on iTunes (currently #11 like whaaat) and I couldn't remember it from listening to the album a couple of months ago. I've always really liked the lead singer's voice and the song's very nice indeed - still a bit surprised it's turning into such a hit though. Regardless, it's always cool to see a good ballad, particularly a post-album release, unexpectedly catch on with the public.

 

Don't really know why 'Seasons' did so poorly for Olly. For me it's one of his most instant, catchiest singles but there you go.

 

'Lean On' is just sooo good and I've a feeling it hasn't nearly stopped growing on me! The video is a spectacle and suits the track perfectly - well worth watching if you haven't seen it yet. ^_^

 

I'm not that big on Jamie T's 'Don't You Find' and I think it's because the vocals are very subtle and his accent isn't very strong on it, which must be the big selling point of his music for me!

 

Some other great stuff in here, particularly the new entries of 'Cheerleader' and 'Talking Body'. :wub:

Funny you should say that about 'The One' cos it didn't stand out for me from the first listen of the album either but once I heard it a few times I was hooked. I've since been championing it to become an unexpected hit with the public so I'm glad it seems to be managing that :)

 

Agreed about 'Seasons', sometimes you just can't predict what the UK public are going to do. Yeah I do love the video to 'Lean On', very colourful and fun, complements the song perfectly. Shame you don't find 'Don't You Find' (see what I did there :P) that good because I love it!

1 - Agreed, and I hope she releases at least another couple of singles from it, if only to help the album keep selling.

21 - It's not my favourite track by either artist but it's certainly fun, and a bit different for both of them so yeah I'm glad it's doing well.

26 - I can't decide how well it will do, I think I'd be happy with a Top 40 peak though.

33 - Yeah it's a grower, didn't like it much at first but it's one of those songs that stays in your head...
