Biography

Although the first solo single from soul-inspired, London-born artist Sam Smith was issued in early 2013, it was his soaring vocal contribution to Disclosure's October 2012 U.K. garage track "Latch" which brought him to most people's attention. For most of his teens, Smith balanced study with music, soaking in the raw and passionate approach to performance exemplified by his favorite artists at that time such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Chaka Khan. "Latch" hit the upper reaches of the U.K. singles chart when Smith was 21, and many were surprised when his debut solo track took a more tempered path. The production on February 2013's "Lay Me Down" — also courtesy of the ordinarily dancefloor-focused duo Disclosure — recalled the stripped-back material that had proved successful for Adele in the preceding years. Next, Shahid Khan — aka Naughty Boy — decided to follow his Emeli Sandé-fronted U.K. Top Ten hit "Wonder" with the infectious, Bollywood sample-driven "La La La." Featuring Smith's powerful lead vocal, it became an instant May 2013 U.K. number one single following his spring tour in support of Sandé. - iTunes

Why can't sam ever be 42 instead of 41?

He was 42 last week!

Anyway, personally I love this song.

10 years since downloads were added :o

I hope we don't have another upset this week. I don't want to such anyone's d.

They weren't fully added until 2006 though :P

It would be good if the number 41 play continues on Scott's show when it moves to Friday but seeing as they will no longer play all 40 songs, I doubt it. :(

Haha yeah. Didn't OCC used to have a rule like a song can be charted by download sales alone just one week before the physical release?

1995

8- IF YOU LOVE ME- Brownstone (27,000)*

Classic smooth RnB. Have a listen if you don't want to hear last weeks top 3:

:D

They weren't fully added until 2006 though :P

For the record

April 2005: Downloads counted as long as the physical was in stores at the same time

2006: Downloads counted a week before the physical went on sale

January 2007: All downloads included whether there is a physical or not.

I do still really enjoy Sam's songs on their own but I am so tired of HIM now :( Even though LMD is an ex-personal chart #1 for me, I will be glad to see the back of it, especially the John Legend version because that is really awful, worst #1 of the year bar Uptown Funk for me :(

As for See You Again, I'd much like another Jess Glynne week or even Omi although I know they are both impossible outcomes. SYA sounds nice and has a lot of meaning for those close to Paul but feels very dated and doesn't have the same appeal as other similar dated songs such as Lullaby have, perhaps it's the lack of female vocals which seems a very Buzzjack thing to say  . Glad to see Wiz get another hit anyway and shake off his 'one hit wonder' tag  He has many songs that are huge jams

Haha yeah. Didn't OCC used to have a rule like a song can be charted by download sales alone just one week before the physical release?

Yes - 2 weeks wasn't it? The Gorillaz Feel Good Inc managed to get to number 22 (I think) 2 weeks early as they had a 7" release first before the CD was added!

I'm listening to 'Thong Song' right now actually  Wish they didn't have to play the whole top 3 from last week, I always mute it these days
still surprised this actually went top 3. Sadly it seems his new single Talking About Name & Number is set to be a flop though
I got one more problem with you gurl ~
Possibly only one Sam Smith song top 40 this week then? :o

Thank gosh :cheer: :cheer:

Actually listening to the top 3 this week as it is really strong for once :o (HMH 10/10, Jealous 9/10, King 7/10)

It would be good if the number 41 play continues on Scott's show when it moves to Friday but seeing as they will no longer play all 40 songs, I doubt it. :(

Shame it won't happen like it does in over here in Ireland, the full chart published on the National chart website lunchtime Friday, the counted down later that day, so you'll know the chart already.

At the mo the Irish chart comes out Friday Lunchtime, published on the IRMA website, and counted down on 2fm at 8pm later that day, so we know the number 1 already.
