May 10, 201510 yr Sonique was massive in 2000 with 3 top 10 hits including a number 1. Her return in 2003 wasn't as successful with one top 20 hit and another minor chart entry and that was it.
May 10, 201510 yr t.a.T.u grabbed all the headlines (and a number 1) in 2003. They returned in late 2005 with a short lived top 10 hit and one further top 75 entry in 2006 but by then the hype had faded.
May 10, 201510 yr RIP DUFFY (2008-2008) Others: The FUGEES (1996) TIFFANY (1988) CORINNE BAILEY RAE (2006) The CRANBERRIES (1994) TERENCE TRENT D'ARBY (1987) Edited May 10, 201510 yr by dandystar
May 10, 201510 yr The Monkees' final top 10 hit (Daydream Believer) reached the top 10 at the end of 1967, the band having only made their debut at the start of that year. They did have 2 more top 20 hit in 1968, though. Falco hit #1 with his (UK) debut in 1986, but was a chart has-been by the end of that year. The Enemy had 4 top 21 hits in 2007, but only 1 top 40 hit (which didn't hang around long) after that.
May 10, 201510 yr Yeah, the first Cranberries album was released in 1993 but didn't take off in the UK until early 1994. Still, I think they had a bit too much success in other years to really count. I'm not having Wayne Wonder either. He was a one-hit, er, Wonder who had a second charting single nobody remembers.
May 10, 201510 yr Some acts from the 1980s... Kajagoogoo - absolutely massive for a while in 1983 but then lost momentum when Limahl left the group / was sacked. Had little success after 1983. King - had a massive hit to start off 1985 and then two further top 20 hits and another top 30 hit during the year. One smallish hit in January 1986 and they were finished. Doctor & The Medics - I'm not sure if they should be included (many people probably think of them as a one hit wonder) but for a time in 1986 they were everywhere - on children's Saturday morning TV, on Top Of The Pops and on top of the charts. But they only had one top 20 single (admittedly a number 1) and one further top 30 hit plus a top 75 entry that failed to make the top 40. Their last chart entry fell from the top 75 the week before Christmas 1986 and then they were gone forever. Tiffany - had a very successful 1988 but come 1989 found the hits hard to come by and had just one further (and minor) chart hit.
May 10, 201510 yr errrr they had a double platinum album in 1993. I must admit I'm basing my post on memory alone but I recall their first album only selling well in 1994 after Linger and Dreams had been released, then the second album sold well after it's release in the second half of the same year. Whilst they did admittedly scrape a couple of top 20 singles afterwards, I recall every other album of theirs pretty much bombing.
May 10, 201510 yr Biggest surprise for me by the way was that Jive Bunny & the Mastermixers had hits outside of 1989 - I don't recall anything after their 3 #1s!
May 10, 201510 yr Miley Cyrus ruled 2013 but hasn't really done anything since Err she's had load of hits before including stuff like the climb which I'm sure have sold very well! Also first act that comes to mind for me is the amazing Duffy
