May 23, 201510 yr Pretty underwhelming final, very amatureish hosting compared with the previous two years and it was just too obvious that the voting order had been fixed. A bit sad Estonia and Slovenia didn't do better but delighted to see Israel in the top 10! They made no secret of the fact that the order of voting was fixed. Graham Norton mentioned the algorithm (or logarithm as he called it on one occasion  ) several times. The Austrian hosts were dire, but Norton helped to make up for it.
May 23, 201510 yr Author Polina IS lovely IRL. I never once heard her say something even remotely terrible to press or anything like that since her breakout in early 2000s.
May 23, 201510 yr I just hope we're not in for another shit Melodifestivalen next year like 2013 :manson: Oh yes :drama: I just hope Sanna coming top 3 AND Mans now winning after a few tries opens up more amazing returnees. That or ISA back to storm with a Kempe write.
May 23, 201510 yr The most funny part of tonight's show is Austria hosting the whole thing, and got nothing from it. I bet now they won't even qualify to the final for quite a while.
May 23, 201510 yr I caught the final leaderboard 1 Sweden 365 2 Russia 309 3 Italy 292 4 Belgium 217 5 Australia 196 6 Latvia 186 7 Estonia 106 8 Norway 102 9 Israel 97 10 Serbia 53 11 Georgia 51 12 Azerbaijan 49 13 Montenegro 44 14 Slovenia 39 15 Romania 35 16 Armenia 34 17 Albania 34 18 Lithuania 30 19 Greece 23 20 Hungary 19 21 Spain 15 22 Cyprus 11 23 Poland 10 24 United Kingdom 5 25 France 4 26 Germany 0 27 Austria 0 :DIs this the OFFICIAL results? Coz I put £1 on Austria to finish last at 16/1 and I need to know whether that's a victory for me or whether Betfred are gonna be dicks about it and say that it was a tie or whatever! :( Our performance was phenomenal. I really, REALLY loved it. Quite possibly my favourite staging of the night!
May 23, 201510 yr Australia have scored more points tonight than all the UK entries since 2010 combined. #Eurovision amazing. OMG!! :o Also so happy Sweden won *.* Love it so much and definitely one of my favourites

The Austrian hosts were dire, but Norton helped to make up for it. Yeah I know I just mean the way in which Russia went from constant 10/12s to 0 - it was clear from about 10 votes in that Sweden were gonna win. Would've been more exciting with an organic voting order cos then you really wouldn't have known!

I would expect this kind of question from Michael but you Jonjo... REALLY? :(
May 24, 201510 yr To be honest we are are lucky to get 4th from bottom realistically 3rd from bottom if Australia were not in the competition. Without Australia, we would still have come fourth from last unless one of the few countries to finish below us would have picked up lots of single points.

Coz I put £1 on Austria to finish last at 16/1 and I need to know whether that's a victory for me or whether Betfred are gonna be dicks about it and say that it was a tie or whatever! :( That's OFFICIAL I freezed the TV and wrote down the final scores . The semi results should be in soon, if I remember correctly from last year.
May 24, 201510 yr How do YOU think? Is there a way to determine who is last if both songs got ZERO points? I would expect this kind of question from Michael but you Jonjo... REALLY? :(I don't know how it all works though, Pavlav! :( Dead heat :P I think you get half the odds (8/1) instead.Oh I'll take that over nothing! Skybet have paid out on my Austria last bet so one hopes! This is what I'm hoping! Coz technically they still did come last (but I've read stories similar in the past where people haven't got something from similar situations!) Thanks :D

I think my heart was actually with Polina, but my head was with Sweden. Mans is a very deserving winner, I imagine if I'd seen that performance for the first time tonight I'd have been wowed just as I was back in Melodifestivalen but of course the novelty of it has worn off over time. Still it's a fantastic winner for Eurovision, another modern pop song in the style of 'Satellite' and 'Euphoria' and should do wonders for Eurovision's credibility. I love the song as well! Overall the results seemed just about right actually, Belgium and Latvia getting fantastic results despite having very long odds just over a week ago. Austria and Germany did not deserve nil points however, especially the latter - surely the best ever song to get zero points? Also Estonia's performance was stunning, that tear falling down Elina's cheek in the final chorus was mesmerising, so pleased they achieved 7th place despite their unfavourable draw! Reading through this thread it was nice seeing all of your opinions although the love for Electro Velvet astounds me, the staging was as good as it could've been but it was appalling in comparison to every other entry. The fact it got five more points that Austria and Germany shocks me in that we didn't deserve that many points - although I'm pleased for Alex and Bianca as they have been great throughout all the Eurovision events over the past 2 months. One thing that did annoy me was the constant mention of "bloc voting", "neighbour voting", "predictable voting". Really? Cyprus and Greece not exchanging twelve points for the first time in probably 20 years if not more? Lithuania giving none to Russia, the Baltics only exchanging small points with Latvia and Estonia both deserving of any big points they got anyway, likewise the majority of the former Yugoslav countries. I'm not denying "neighbour voting" doesn't exist, it does as neighbouring countries do have similar musical tastes. Of course Serbia give high points to Montenegro's Balkan ballad, it's a very popular genre in that region of Europe. Ten years ago we'd have got every single former Soviet country giving 12 to Russia, Latvia and Estonia topping all the Baltic votes, Serbia and/or Montenegro topping every Balkan vote. This barely happened, and the times it did - usually for Russia - it was completely deserving as the Western countries were giving it just as many points. My mum has been a big critic of this voting in the past but the first thing she said to me after the results tonight were that "it's the best it has ever been" in terms of non-neighbour voting. Wow at the massive gaps between 6/7 and 9/10 - it looks like pretty much every country voted for the same songs. Bre sums it up for me perfectly here. Every country nearly did vote for exactly the same songs because they voted for the strongest songs, not just the countries that border them. "Neighbour voting" does exist, but it has such a minimal impact these days, its impact has never been so small since televoting began. Greece and Azerbaijan both struggled again, the latter barely qualified. I can't stress enough how unimportant "bloc voting" is in the grand scheme of things (Russia came 17th just a few years ago, where were the bloc voters then?) and I wish people would stop bringing it up as if it is a negative thing. That's my rant over, it just frustrates me when reading through this topic how every few posts it was mentioned by someone. ANYWAY, great contest overall and a great winner and mostly great results too! :cheer:

ANYWAY, great contest overall and a great winner and mostly great results too! :cheer: Ryan, my interest in 'bloc voting' is just for the patterns, and there were some great ones tonight with Greece-Cyprus failing to go the full swap and all those other ones you mentioned. I like breaking with tradition more than keeping it as no country should in an ideal world be guaranteed points from another. The thing is, I wouldn't say that most of the votes for Russia tonight were from people voting for them because it is Russia, but the headstart they have in this has been rather apparent for years (most other countries would have surely not made the final with their 2011 entry). Therefore when they have a favourite like they did tonight it becomes easier than ever to predict where all the points are going as you can just say 'Russia' and you'll probably be right. Even the most hilarious moment of the contest with the Russian spokesperson (which had me in fits because I jokingly predicted what he was going to do before he actually did it) is based upon that understanding. When EVERYONE across the continent is saying the votes before they are announced the illusion of bloc voting is very strong and BECAUSE there were strong point-guzzling songs tonight I think that's why there was a lot of talk about it tonight. Your stats don't lie, it's nothing to worry about.
May 24, 201510 yr That's fair enough, to be fair I wasn't aiming it at you. I think it was Michael who was making the constantly negative comments and that's what got to me! :kink: Just to add though, the only thing we can fault is the so-called diaspora voting which is obviously most common in the former Soviet Union and former Yugoslavia as they used to be all joined in one country but who can blame people voting for their own country if they have the opportunity to do so. The 50/50 full ranking system has just about completely wiped it out now though with Lithuania only getting 3 points despite winning our televote, so we really are in the best position we have been in voting-wise ever since televoting was introduced.
May 24, 201510 yr Well I thought the winning song was great and after I'd seen it I thought it would win. Poor Germany and Austria!
May 24, 201510 yr Austria coming last is no surprise, it was a bland/forgettable song in a bad position from a country that rarely do anything in the contest Sorry but LOL, they won last year!!
May 24, 201510 yr Author Sorry but LOL, they won last year!! They came Top 10 (3x10th) 5 times since 1991 so I think this is considered "rarely doing anything" in Eurovision.
May 24, 201510 yr I just can't get enough of Love Injected  I've been playing this on repeat for an hour already
May 24, 201510 yr Bloc voting happens everywhere and it affects the results BUT Nordic countries are as bad as ex-Soviet countries. Finland gives big points to Sweden and Estonia every time, Norway gives 8-12 to Sweden if Denmark doesn't have a better song. It happens and it is yet to really affect the winner.
